My thing with him for me is that the first and second thing you want from a PG is playmaking and dribble penetration, if you come into the league as a PG you need to have that somehow because you can’t really teach it.
You can generate dribble penetration with speed–he doesn’t have that much speed. You can generate dribble penetration with a crafty handle–he doesn’t really have a crafty handle. You can generate dribble penetration by forcing the defense to play you higher–he has that, but in the NBA against faster and taller defenders it’s a much harder way to get your paint touches.
What’s the best case scenario for him after 4 years of development? You can’t teach speed and you can’t teach wingspan. I feel like in Miami he’d get relegated to just being a smaller Strus type guy, not doing much to solve any of our massive positional problems.
