what’s going on everybody welcome back to another episode of pels and whistles I’m your host real Meers and I just wanted to make a quick little episode to talk with y’all about a couple trade rumors surrounding the Pelicans um and the Atlanta Hawks who just won the NBA draft lottery these guys were 36 and 46 at the end of the regular season and they went to the playing tournament and somehow they have landed the number one pick in this year’s draft and I mean it’s not a very like most people don’t even know who projected to go number one right I don’t even think it’s just like a um a something that everyone has like agreed upon there’s no unanimous uh number one pick this year I don’t think so it’s not a super impressive draft class but still it’s kind of impressive for you to jump from 10th all the way up to the first seed so want to talk a little bit about that and how this it could mean something for the Pelicans in terms of um trying to get a guard from them maybe they want to let go of Trey young or maybe they want to keep try and they want to let go to jonay Murray um because we need to get a point guard in over here for the Pelicans and I mean we can’t I mean we’ve tried to have a two guard play the one thing and it just doesn’t really work out I mean if you look back at when the Pelicans had Drew holiday um Drew holiday was looking for us to get a point guard right and then we got a point guard on Rajan Rondo and what happened in that one year that we had Rondo right we went to the playoffs um unfortunately Boogie got hurt but we swept the Trailblazers as as the Lesser SE as a kind of the underdog in that Series so having a point guard having a proper point guard does go a long way um so I want to know what you guys think in terms of uh do we try to make a move and see what uh Atlanta’s up to right now um since they’ve landed number one pick or do we just kind of leave it alone do we go look for a guard elsewhere I’ve seen people bring up guys like tus Jones um do we want to take a look at him but I mean either way whether you have CJ whether you have Jose or you have Trey Murray uh I’m sorry Trey young um or you have um uh tus Jones all these guys are small they’re very small guards um you would like for a guy like Dyson to be your answer if he’s already on the roster but I don’t necessarily know that that’s going to be the case with him so could say a lot there but I just really don’t know what to say about Dyson but one thing that I was wondering about is what do we expect from Carlo Movic and and Liam Robbins right like Liam I don’t think that we will pretty much see him again like he may be in Birmingham with the Squadron but he has been riddled with injuries and it sucks to see um I was able to to meet him and speak to him last year um at summer league and he’s a very nice kid you know um and I’m rooting for him and it just sucks the way that the beginning of his professional career has been derailed with these injuries I mean he broke his leg in college went undrafted Pelicans picked him up he ended up not being ready for Camp he got cut at the end of that sent him to Birmingham and he had a stress reaction in his leg it’s just these lower extremities injuries are absolutely like killing his the beginning of his career so hopefully he can bounce back from that but um Carlo it from what I can tell it seems like they’re high on him and and I just I don’t know if we’ll ever see Liam with New Orleans across his chest but very curious to see what happens with Carlo everybody knows that’s my guy I’m the head of the Carlo crazies at least I think I am but there’s there’s a lot of us that are hype um on Carlo but the um again the NBA draft lottery was today Hawks got number one um the Pistons who had the worst record in the league ended up with the fifth pick which I think I heard this is the third year in a row that they landed with the third pick uh I’m sorry the third year in the row that they landed with the fifth pick so that sucks and some people say hey good for them because you don’t want to reward tanking but does that mean the lottery system is necessarily like working because the team with the worst record isn’t getting it and now we’ve got let’s see the Wizards the Wizards landed in the top four I think Houston landed in the top four they got number three and then San Antonio got number four San Antonio has got four and eight I believe so they’ve got two lottery picks to add on top of wimy and whatever other young Talent those guys got over there so that should be interesting it would be really interesting if they ended up with Trey young they need a point guard wimy needs a point guard to set the table for him cuz we’ve seen this season like wimy they weren’t giving him the ball you got to get the ball like you’re missing him on these rolls to the basket he’s wide open and even if he’s not open he’s two feet taller than everybody else like you got to get the ball to him so he would benefit greatly from from having a point guard but um the draft combine is over the next week um and then we’ve got the actual draft on June 26 and 27th uh June 30th you begin negotiations with upcoming free agents shout out to yonas valent chunes he’s a free agent just I can’t stand it oh man we should have been able to trade him at the deadline if we weren’t going to be able to you know sign him to an extension or something I don’t know but July 6th teams begin signing free agents and then July 12th 22nd is summer league but let’s look at what’s going on in the playoffs right now um the Mavericks are winning their series against the Thunder 2 to one with uh the upcoming game four is going to be on their court so I mean they lost the first game in Oklahoma won the second game in Oklahoma won the first game on their court so they’ve got a big chance to go up 3-1 against the number one seed on their home court um Monday night so definitely going to be tuned in for that I’ve been really interested in this series um because as you know I’m rooting for OKC to um lose um the Celtics are winning their series against the Cavs there’s not much that I have to say there um it really seems like Donovan Mitchell showing up for the series but all of his teammates are not um and I wasn’t watching the most recent game but just looking at the timeline and what everyone was saying about Darius Garland it sounds like uh he is not very well liked um in Cleveland right now because just not showing up so unfortunate for him unfortunate for them but you know it’s not over yet but I still expect the the Celtics to go ahead and and win this series against the Cavs but the Pacers and the Knicks are tied two two and the home team has won every game in that Series so far um I’ve been doing my insta picks on the takes app which uh I’ll try to see if I can get that link for y’all and put this in the um in the description on the YouTube video but on the takes app I do these insta picks and I pick which team I think is going to win on what day and for a while I was doing really good I had like a five game streak where I picked the right one then I had like a four game streak where I was losing everything and like the Pacers and nicks series I I keep picking the wrong team and I think tonight the same thing happened with um Denver and Minnesota I was expecting Minnesota to go ahead and go up 3-1 I mean from what I saw from from Denver in the first couple games um wasn’t looking too great and yeah I was one of those people that was counting the defending champs out but I mean I know what I saw in those first two games and the way that ant’s been playing it’s been pretty amazing but now his teammates aren’t showing up right so Carl Anthony Talons had like 13 points in this game uh in this game four against Denver so that’s not going to cut it pal like Denver dropped the first two at home then they went into Minnesota and one two on the road so they’re the opposite of what the Pacers and the Knicks are doing right now the Pacers and the Knicks home team has won every game the nuggets and the Timberwolves the home team has lost every game so this series is switching back to uh to Denver for the next game and I don’t know what to expect but it seems kind of like has figured things out um this is one of those things I think where Minnesota’s um inexperience is going to come into play and it’s not that they’re like super inexperienced but you know they weren’t the number one seed last year right so they they are kind of um they’re ascending in the league but there is still like a level that they haven’t reached yet or they haven’t unlocked and with Carl Anthony toal playing the way that he played in these last two games like you’re just not going to get anywhere with that and you didn’t have Rudy goar for game two and everything was everything was great y’all were blowing them boys out but then he comes back for game three you lose game four you lose and at one point uh in this last game in game four I was thinking maybe it’s a good thing if Rudy just fouls out like he’s just not looking great out there and and I you know haven’t been a huge fan of him over the years I don’t think that he should have four Defensive Player of the Year trophies and he just looks silly out there against joic but can you really blame that on him you know it’s it’s Nicole yic like he’s going to make anybody look silly really so can’t really blame that all on um on Captain croissant uh as I like to call him but yeah Thunder uh against Mavericks Monday night 9:30 Eastern uh on TNT and then um what else is Monday night Celtics and Cavs Celtics and Cavs that game is the first half of the double header of course and then second half is going to be that that later game so I’ll be tuned in we’ll see what happens but um some of these series have been really interesting I really wanted this game for um to be just a little bit more exciting down the stretch um with Denver in Minnesota but Denver did that thing where they kind of keep you at arms length and you feel like you can maybe get a little bit closer but they just never let you get closer so they were really playing like Champions tonight and you got to you know give them credit per se um with their performance tonight but just wanted to touch on those um couple of things really quickly uh don’t have a whole much to talk about you know again on the Pelicans front but I asked if you guys wanted me to keep making pills and whistles through the offseason
