No one should want to pay him that. He isn’t worth it.

Makes sense from a team building stand point they’re already on the second apron and a ton of their guys are gonna need extensions, also note this is average, not what he’d actually get yearly

In other news: water is wet, the sun is bright, and the team that scores more points will win tonight’s game.

  4. No one is paying him 50 mill… he’s lucky if anyone pays him 40

I feel like between rising caps and the introduction of the second apron we are finally reaching a point in the NBA where the top few players clearly separate from the rest salary-wise.

Up until now the max a player could make was artificially-deflated so you have guys like Luka and Giannis and LeBron going underpaid, while dudes like Zach LaVine and KAT and Booker were making the same or even more.  So you just automatically pay your guy if he’s even borderline all-star tier.

In effect it means that having the huge stars mattered even more, because if KAT and Embiid are gonna make the same amount of money then the team with Embiid has a big advantage.  And it gave us the superteam era because for instance Steph’s salary was so much lower than his actual value as a player that you could afford to pay other HOF-caliber stars to play alongside him.

Of course small market teams will still have to overpay because NY/LA have an inherent advantage that lets them get away with paying guys less money.  But realistically Donovan Mitchell should not be making the same amount of money as Luka.  Luka’s salary should be astronomically high because he brings that level of value to a team.

And some folks around here not only want to pay him $52MM, but also want to trade Garland to do it!!! Lol

  7. That’s the issue with actual above average wings, players like Ingram or even Jerami Grant are expensive AF.

I remember when Timofey Mozgov signed a $64M contract with the Lakers to play only 20 mpg and get only 7 ppg and 5 rpg, then even worse the next year with the Nets.

These contracts are all out of wack. Save for some extreme cases it seems like lifetime earnings are capped by draft position. Like BI was a high pick with a high rookie contract and the trajectory just continued. If he was drafted 27th and played how he’s played he’s a $30 million a year player.

LeVert and Allen for Ingram. We desperately need a good wing player and Mobley has to be a center full time.
