Klay Thompson HINTS at Wanting to Sign with Lakers! | Fit with Lebron/AD + Do the Lakers Have Enough

[Music] welcome back everyone with the NBA Finals about to end we’re about to get a lot of offseason action including the NBA draft in about 10 days a all free agency not long thereafter and while the lers will be heavily involved in both at the moment they currently have two draft picks one in each round along with seven openings on their 15-man roster leaving them with quite a bit of room for change though they will be limited financially when it comes to free agency after all they are significantly over the salary cap and that’s even with or without LeBron coming back to their team on a Max Level contract all they have to work with right now are the bird rights they own to their own free agents the $5.2 million taxpayer mid-level acception and then that TR minimum contracts yeah not very much and with that in mind they will have to do a lot of bargain shopping which often tends to include either young players or veteran players that are on the decline and a veteran name has now been linked to them is none other than four-time NBA champion and one of the best three-point Shooters of all time Klay Thompson and he really did to himself here earlier this weekend Klay Thompson posted a picture of him with the caption I miss this place so much and if you’re wondering where he is referring to here it does in fact happen to be in La which would heavily imply that he would be interested in playing there and not only that but he had another interesting social media Endeavor along with that one with that including him unfollowing the Golden State Warriors and well I know where kind of going down the rabbit hole here but that might mean him going to a different team and after the Orlando Magic who simply have a lot of money to offer him many believe the Lakers be option number two for him even with it requiring him to take a big time discount though that’ll probably be happening almost anywhere he would go and with that being said should the lers try and get him and at what price would it be worth it to signing now declining Klay Thompson as he definitely is not the player they wants was though he still can’t be valuable in the right role and we’ll talk about all of that during today’s video but before we get too far into it if you want to keep up with and talk about the NBA off season with other NBA and Laker fans then don’t forget to check out our NBA Discord we have been talking about the NBA draft free agency and of course the ongoing NBA finals or if you don’t have Discord then feel free to follow me on Twitter to hear my thoughts on everything NBA related there will be a link for both of them in the video description down below but without further Ado let’s dive right into it and I think we’ll Begin by talking about what Klay Thompson did last season where he put up about 18 points about three rebounds and shot over 38% from three on nine attempts per game not too bad if you forget who you’re talking about here but then when you remember that we’re talking about Klay Thompson who have been averaging over 20 points per game for the past decade although with only having shot under 40% one time throughout his entire career that is when it becomes a bit underwhelming and well it might only be down from here simply put the gu’s body has been through a lot I mean 13 years in the NBA alone will do a number on somebody but then when you factor in a torn ACL a torn Achilles and a bunch of various injuries go along with it that is when things start to pile up and especially for a now 34y old again his stat line was not bad by any means but it only got worse over time which ended with him going over 10 from the field in a must-win game during the playing tournament and unfortunately for him that is the only thing that people remember from him last season now I don’t think that should be the only thing that I talked about which it kind of is but it definitely should be factored in the guy is simply declining and while really doubt that he would go over 10 again in a must-win game the real problem here is relying on him to fill a big role gone are the days of Klay Thompson being your second or third option at this point he is probably fourth or fifth option on a good team and especially with him no longer providing value on defense which is yet another thing to factor in here with him we tend to remember Klay Thompson as the ultimate 3 and D guy that he was in the Golden State Dynasty but that is no longer the case I mean he’s not a terrible Defender but he’s definitely not a good one anymore and then again he can tend to be very sporadic from the three-point line you really never know what you might get from him and if you’re relying on that to be your third option then well you’re probably not going to get very far and Golden State found that out last season with him often being their third guy in offense and then not to mention the second guy in their payroll only being below Steph Curry in my opinion that contract needs to be cut in half for him to become a valuable player again Klay Thompson had a $40 million preyear kind of deal in the year 2024 is simply not a winning formula though I do think you would look better at a 20 million preyear kind of deal at that point he would likely be fourth or fifth on your payroll and within your offense which would be a pretty good spot for him he can actually afford to be a bit sporadic at that point having three or four guys around him that are more heavily relied on within their offense and if you can get one of the better three-point Shooters in the entire league along with a good scoring threat for only 20 million per year then I think you should do it and I’m really referring to the Orlando Magic here because simply put the Lakers do not have that amount of money to offer him for them to make that possibility they would have to pull off a sign in trade which Golden State cannot even legally do at their current payroll now they would be able to if they wave CP3 but I can’t imagine they would do both that and let Klay Thompson walk for nothing as you really don’t get much to a signed trade and with that in mind the only way the Lakers can make it happen would be if Klay Thompson took a massive discount and even if the Lakers could get below the first luxury tax apron they would only have about 12.8 million to offer him the current value of the non- tax Fair mid-level exception and while not complete rule it out I cannot imagine Klay Thompson would take that over a 20 to even $25 million preyear CL contract from the Orlando Magic who do in fact have a bright future by the way and I think the only advantage to Lakers have over them would be location simply put I doubt Klay Thompson wants to move all the way to Orlando the guy has been on the west coast for not only his entire NBA career but pretty much his entire life and that would be a lot to leave behind at the end of the day I don’t see him wanting to leave that again a massive contract might be able to change that but then again I doubt the Lakers offer would be more than what Golden State would even offer him now he might feel offended by them wanting him to take a discount which he probably does but even their discount will be more than 12.8 million per year or at least I think it would anyways I mean it obviously won’t be around 40 million again but I feel like they would be willing to offer him around 20 million per year if not even a little bit more and if they could find a way to move on from CP3 and Andrew Wiggins Al improving their team while doing it then Klay Thompson could become valuable to their team again which I think is what they’re trying to do here I’m not a big fan of talking about leverage but it definitely is a real thing and well that’s probably what Klay Thompson is trying to gain over them the guy wants another big contract before he retires and I imagine that he would prefer to get that contract from the team that he started with don’t get me wrong I think that he would legitimately lead their team for the right price or even the right situation but we have seen this kind of thing happen before a player unfollows their team on social media or even heavily implies leaving their team only has signed a new contract with them shortly after I mean gold say literally went through it with Draymond Green last summer and to absolutely no surprise at all he ended up right back with them on new contract now he definitely does provide more value to their team compared to clay at this point which might make it a bit different but I think it’s still pretty much the same thing and although I would love to see Klay Thompson take a discount to join the purple and gold I really don’t see it happening I would put them as the third or even fourth option for him during free agency and well I F don’t like the odds there and with all of that being said what do you guys think do you believe Klay Thompson will actually leave Golden State and then do you think he’ll be willing to join the Lakers or is he simply trying to use them for leverage let me know your thoughts in the comments down below that will do it for this video though big thank you to those of you who took the time to watch until the end of this video and until the end of all my videos in 1. Honestly Klay numbers aren’t that bad. If he didn’t get benched and played over 30 mins a game he would be a 20+ scorer.

  2. Klay isn't what he used to be, but it would be a big shooting improvement for the Lakers. I'd like to see him in a Laker jersey, for the right price

  3. I doubt, I mean I highly doubt Clay will end up in Los Angeles any time soon other than to visit family.

He is in the decline and isn't worth his current contract, is even half of it.

    Moving on.

  4. i think its totally beneficial for klay to join us, as we can only offer him a mini-mid level salary, its totally worth to do so. he could bring his experience to AR too.

problem is i dont think klay reli wants to leave, like draymond last yr, he was just gaining the lakers rumors to get warriors attentions. I really dont think klay is coming, cp3 may hv a little chance.

  5. Klay is no different than Dlo at least point i will just keep Dlo and hope he get streaky on the big games

  6. I don't see Klay coming to the Lakers. He's nowhere near the player he used to be, had a serious knee injury, and is declining. He's not worth 40 million dollars!

  7. Lakers should pretend to be interested so maybe the Clippers will give him a max contract.

  8. Klay, Drey, and Curry are not leaving warriors for any other team until retirement. Stop it.

  9. Anything over 15mill from anyone but the Warriors is an overpay for Klay. If the Lakers can do 2 years 30M or less then maybe. Their main priority should be getting LeBron to sign for 40M a year or less.

  10. Youtube Clickbait……Not buying it. The only financial offer the Lakers can give is the $6M Mid-Level Exception. I doubt Clat takes a major pay cut…. Sure he's from LA….Sure he might have fleeting fantasy about playing in LA…. But he's not playing for pennies when he has better offers elsewhere.

  11. Lakers still won't win a championship next season it doesn't matter who they get. Laker nation get ready for another disappointment next season.
