what’s going on Lakers fans welcome into the Lakers report by Chad Sports coming up on today’s show could the Lakers be signing Klay Thompson after he stirred up some drama on social media then also we had an NBA Insider chime in on the NBA draft where they said the Los Angeles Lakers could be looking to get into the top five but before we dive into it I want to get you guys’ thoughts on this would you sign Klay Thompson during NBA free agency give me an S for sign or a p for pass down in the comment section as some people think he’s washed some people still think he has a Ray Allen s run in him but you guys let me know would you sign Klay Thompson immediately when I saw all this drama around Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors the one thing I thought about was Ray Allen joining the Miami Heat on the tail half of his career playing next to LeBron James and having an outstanding couple of years in Miami could the same thing happen for Klay Thompson heading to Los Angeles heading to the Lakers and playing next to LeBron James well let’s break it down so Klay wants out so Klay Thompson over the weekend did unfollow the Golden State Warriors on social media and then he also deleted a couple photos of him in Warriors uniforms as well so that led the NBA world to be set on fire and everybody had their thoughts on the situation but I actually thought uh one of his teammates Draymond Green had a very interesting quote on his podcast this past week on Klay Thompson unfollowing the Golden State Warriors he said I think that’s comical I know you all would be wanting somebody’s feelings to be hurt or something it ain’t that it ain’t ever going to be that that’s hilarious now this was extremely interesting from Draymond for a number of reasons and I was to this I don’t think it’s you know necessarily a dumb take to say players unfollowing their team on social media means something nowadays because clearly it does like Klay Thompson like that didn’t just happen he specifically went to his phone went on Instagram and unfollowed the Warriors and you know I thought draymond’s com comments there were pretty you know scile a little bit when he was just saying like oh I think that’s funny it seems like Draymond necessarily doesn’t care about what clay does so you know maybe clay already told Draymond and Steph I’m going to go test the waters of free agency and I’m not going to return but you know I do think there is something there to Clay unfollowing the Warriors now the last time we saw Klay Thompson play basketball it was in the playin game versus Sacramento Kings and it was awful and I think this left a terrible taste in everybody’s mouths in regard to Klay Thompson’s playing performance this past season I mean zero points 0 of 10 0 of six from downtown a minus 12 plus minus and I get it that is absolutely terrible and he is not the same Quay Thompson that he used to be but take a look at his numbers from the season they’re not bad like people freak out saying Klay Thompson is cooked Klay Thompson is washed and yes he is not the same person as he once was back in his prime in Golden State being one of the best two-way players we have in the NBA but in 30 minutes a night averaging 18 a game three boards two assists four 43% from the field and still almost 40% from downtown and obviously all the advanced shooting numbers favor Clay Thompson as well still on catch and shoot three-pointers this year he knocked him down at a 31.8% clip the pullup three-point percentage still great 41.4 pullup midies that’s his secondary uh scoring option when he’s out there 46.1% and even on floaters and getting to the rim he was still pretty good at 50 8.6% so offensively I definitely still think Klay has a lot left in the tank but I will address this Klay Thompson has taken a massive step back defensively like when you thought about Klay Thompson back in his Heyday with the Warriors as that Prime Elite two-way Defender with a super long wingspan 6′ s gets it done on both sides of the floor I mean he was the warrior primary point of attack Defender for a countless number of years and that’s when the Warriors still had a very good defense now what do other NBA Executives think Klay Thompson will receive in free agency cuz let’s just say he does walk and the Warriors or and the Lakers are going to open up that checkbook and sign clay well NBA xec believe he will make around 18 to2 million this upcoming year of average annual salary now they asked NBA Executives how much do you think clay will get and they gave him a bunch of choices and five NBA Executives both believed he will make $18 to $20 million so I still think that shows to the point that clay has value and honestly Klay Thompson on a $20 million deal I don’t hate that at all I still think he would be extremely productive and be one of the best $20 million per year players in the NBA and also this I think Klay Thompson’s game is going to translate very well to a defined role in the last years of his career like if you just ask clay to enter that Ray Allen JJ reic mode where it is strictly you are there to knock down Threes And if you catch fire then hey we’re probably going to win that basketball game and you know I understand like like I just said like defensively he’s not the same guy no doubt about it but like having a guy who is 6’7 and can knock down the three-point ball at a extremely extremely high rate that is still very very valuable and you know Klay Thompson still shot 38% from downtown this season I think people just are so fixated on that uh Sacramento Kings uh playing game where they’re like oh clay cooked he couldn’t guard Malik monk he couldn’t guard dear and fox he couldn’t guard any of these guys he was also 0 of 10 like what value does he bring on the basketball court that was just one game that does not you know represent what he was doing the whole second half of the Year where he was frankly fantastic now I do want to ask you guys is Klay Thompson is he washed up because this is a you know this is a definitely a highly debated topic right now amongst NBA media members and NBA fans but you guys let me know is Klay Thompson washed up give me a why fors or give me an N for no down in the comments section now we got a report suggesting that the Lakers could be trading up in the NBA draft never thought we would see that but let’s break it down this is coming in from samiko who is pretty tapped in in the NBA and this is what he said on the Lakers trading up said one League source told Hoops wire last week that he envisions the lak and heat making a strong play for a top five pick also the Memphis Grizzlies hold the number nine overall pick and could be among those exploring the idea of moving down some feel that in this draft there won’t be much of a difference in the upside between say the number 10 or between the number nine and number 20 selection so who could the Lakers trade up for because you know I don’t like in terms of just fit like I couldn’t really see the Lakers going all in on like Alex saw the number one pick or even a guy like safan Castle couldn’t see that but let’s just go over five guys here real quick to end Today’s Show on who I think the Lakers could end up getting so Donovan cling the first n uh player on this list the center out of Yukon prototypical 7 foot2 Rim protecting Center gives me very uh you know Walker Kessler s Vibes when he’s out there on the court is that just Elite rim protector is very limited offensively needs to work on that push shot no doubt about it but at 7’2 pair him up NE next to Anthony Davis I could really see that you know working out for the lak show but another guy Reed Shepard and maybe this could be a move just to get LeBron you know another white guy next to him as you know he took Alex Caruso to the next level he took Austin Reeds to the next level why not run it back with Reed Shepard and you know Reed Shepard’s awesome you know he reminds me a lot of Derek white of the Boston Celtics where he’s just going to play the game the right way be very efficient make the right read be an above average Defender and you know Reed sheeper my opinion if there’s one player that is the most equipped to win now on the Lakers and with how the current roster is uh constructed Reed Shepard’s my guy so that was another one that I could see the Lakers you know having cir one on their big board where it’s like hey if he fall if he falls to five we’re calling the Detroit Pistons and we’re trading up now next one up on the list Devin Carter now Devin Carter is I don’t think he’s going to go top five but in terms of fit I think he stands out with the Lakers now I will make this though Devin Carter was reportedly promised by a team inside the draft lottery that he would not fall out of the lottery so I think it’s going to be no doubt dein Carter goes in the top 14 of this draft and again maybe the Lakers view him as that griton grind like Josh Hart type of player where even though he is under sized he plays bigger than he is and he’s also was knocking down the three-point ball at a very high clip for Providence last year and uh key note too Providence best player on that team Bryce Hopkins did go down with a season long injury and Devin usage rate and his shots per game skyrocketed and the efficiency didn’t fall off which I think is key you know to note when evaluating a prospect but dton connect next up here uh the guard out of Tennessee as he took over the college scene last uh last season and you know even though he is older 23 years old like I still think you know connect is a know he’s a top prospect in my opinion he’s up there on my big board because when you just turn on the tape you watch him play basketball he’s the definition of a three-level scorer sneaky athlete as well a sneaky long Wings span you know people I feel like just view like see like a white guard coming out and they just automatically like oh he’s Gordon award oh he’s you know whatever stereotypical white basketball player you think of Dalton connect is not that he is a highlevel athlete he’s a highlevel scorer in the mid-range and yes he does have the ability to knock down the three ball as well but in terms of win now piece connect is definitely going to be on the top of the Lakers draft board but in terms of a developmental Prospect a guy the Lakers could take a chance on is being the best player in this draft is Matas buellis and this is not an international player even though his name does look like that he is luthian but he does come from Chicago Illinois so he’s an American basketball player and I think this would be a guy where the Lakers you know they say themselves like hey LeBron’s on the way out most likely we’re going to try to get another draft piece another prospect that we can develop and we can hone his craft and potentially be that three next to Anthony Davis for the next couple of years but if I had to pick one here watch out for Donovan Clingan and you know the biggest reason for this is I think Anthony Davis wants to go back to playing a true four in the NBA where he is that physical you know Rim pressuring Rim protecting uh forward and you know he probably wants to play on the outside a little more in the tail half of his career and a guy like Donovan kingan would allow him to do so he would be you know responsible for protecting the rim he’ll have a more of a you know a roller Duty on the pick and roll where Anthony Davis could you know run a lot more isos play a lot more on the outside so watch out for Daman quing and when I heard that report first name I thought of was yeah Lakers are going to go want to get uh the Yukon Center but you guys let me know I just gave you guys five names on players who I think the Lakers could trade up in draft but who do you guys want the Lakers to draft if they do dive in that top five you guys
