Western Conference playoffs and getting swept up in this Dallas thing and Luca thing and the level of competition uh did not give us the greatest gauge of what Boston truly was and yet there was Las Vegas telling you that the most the most uh what’s a predicted outcome or certainly the lowest price you could get was Celtics and five that’s what they’re telling you yeah mhm was is going to happen and so there it was it was number five and I told you that like we look at the stats and then they all they all come in full view it’s like now you have to respect that team as one of the greatest teams ever you just do yeah when you go eight- one in the Conference Finals and the finals and you go 16-3 in the playoffs and your point differential was the fifth best of any team ever through 82 games and and you know we’re going to look back and I I do think history is going to look at that team to be even stronger than maybe we think of it in its current iteration and that’s and I think part of it is just the the losing it’s like we’ve we got so used to them when you go to six Eastern Conference Finals and you’re Jaylen Brown and you go to Five Eastern Conference Finals and you’re Jason Tatum and you feel like a and some of those certainly some of them not all of them but some of them IE Miami even last year it’s like they they didn’t lose to better teams than them you felt like they didn’t you didn’t feel like that Miami team was better than them I didn’t no right and yet you got to give big credit to uh Brad Stevens because that is you know it’s not the same skill set to be a coach and to be a general manager and yet they they swapped out that team that was that lost in a game seven of the Eastern Conference Finals that’s bold man yeah now I don’t know if you guys heard what I mentioned when I was on with Kelsey earlier Devon you’re going to be blown away by this one so Kevin said I I was talking about how that porzingis deal was going to fall through because Malcolm Brogden failed the physical and that Marcus Smart wouldn’t be in Memphis except for the fact that that deal fell through and brogon failed his physical did you hear me talking about about this than rooted towards Boston but you think about this as a massive sliding doors moment if they get tius they cannot get Drew yeah they had the space open for holiday because of that taking place yeah and then they were able to attain Drew holiday after the Lillard thing takes place damn it’s crazy to think about that’s crazy and it also makes sense as to cuz nobody ever really made sense of the whole like how did that happen so fast right and and and and the G like we had no idea he was even going to be available and then but then when we heard he was going to be to be in that makes sense that the framework was in place but that was going to be the deal it was going to be tus and pix for smart yeah and wow cuz and it also stands to reason that tus would have been perfect for that they those Grizzlies teams for so many years it was like their win total in Vegas was wrong every year every year it was wrong they were better than what people thought they were and that’s a way better way to live um you know obviously the NBA season concluded completely last night with the finals ending look the finals sucked truly yeah it was not and the NBA Playoffs sucked this year yeah and it’s wasn’t because like our team wasn’t involved but I just think about all how much I loved the NBA Playoffs all of those years of covering them the last three years here and then obviously we had those seven in a row and I think about all those moments and I think about all of those memories from all that stuff and I and I watched obviously I watched basketball every night for the last whatever amount of months it is and certainly intensely on these playoff games because I got to do two podcasts a week where I’m talking about all the games that aren’t involving the Grizzlies and even when I was doing that show with Kelsey this morning and I was asking them like what do you remember from these playoffs it’s like I mean if we’re trying to come up with a list I remember the Murray game winner against the Lakers M Murray had two those were moments the first round was the best uh Philly New York Philly New York Philly New York was that’s number one for me that series was number one yes and and especially that whole commotion down on the Baseline and then throwing it back out at D venzo hitting that three and like I mean those were that and then Minnesota Denver was wildly intoxicating but the games weren’t good gam not the I think the first thing that comes to mind is like the the image of the passing of the torch of AD and KD not ad AE and KD when like AE was busting him up and he was like kind of laughing at the KD and like for me I saw that image as like a passing of the torch in the NBA but I guess for me I was thinking of it that deep too deep but yeah that was probably my number one but not even a good series not even a good series it was a sweet Sixers Knicks is by number one thing from this playoffs for me right yeah Sixers and the first round like Mavs MAV Thunder wasn’t all that you said invol the garden Crow Max Thunder was pretty good yeah it yeah it was it was the the beginning ma Thunder was pretty good yeah just nobody really cared about the best the game won the most important player was porzingis game two the most important player was Drew holiday game three probably Jay Brown mhm I would I would say that’s the thing game four none to credit him for his defense CU if he was on Luka he didn’t score and if he was on Kyrie they didn’t score that was the thing with Boston during the playoffs and then the the jayen brown and tat and and uh and holiday thing is it felt like every close game that Boston was in when it did come down the stretch that they won it was Jaylen Brown and Drew holiday making the plays those are the ones who made the winning plays I will say for the benefit of what we talk about all the time regarding the the Memphis team sticking with a group and just letting them grow and take all their lumps together and that paying off is a good thing it’s a good thing for the sport it’s a good thing that people uh that they were able to see it through and yes it took some tinkering around the edges and that’s exactly what they’re going to have to do with this team right that like they going have to figure out what they’ve got at small forward they got to figure out what they’ve got at at at Center and they got to figure out what they’re going to do with reserves but like they’re tinkering they were tinkering around the edges with that team and bringing in different guys and eventually they found the right mix yep and then they were able to win a title out of it but like they never broke up those two guys those two and and that’s what it all revolves around and I think that if you’re the Grizz is you go this thing all revolves around J Dez and jiren yeah and those other two spots you’re figuring it out right what is the best what’s the best way to build out around those three guys but
