the theme around the Boston Celtics talking to players last night was finally finally we got to this Mountaintop so let’s take a look back at how they assembled the pieces of this championship roster and it started over a decade ago really July 12th 2013 the Celtics traded Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce among others to the Nets right for multiple firsts which turned into their two franchise players in 2016 Jaylen Brown has selected third overall using the Net’s pick and then in 2017 after trading down with the 76ers Jason Tatum is selected third overall fast forward today and they go off in these finals yep these two young guys matured into the best back court this year that finished number one in offensive rating so yes they uh delivered Signed Sealed Delivered this year not back oh you’re saying Duo overall okay here we go per but this Duo was there back in 2022 and couldn’t quite get the job done they needed a couple more pieces in order to complete the mission so who were those pieces you may ask well let’s go ahead to February 10th 2022 when the Celtics trade Josh Richardson and a first pick swap as well to the Spurs right for Derek white here this is a low-key brilliant trade at the time people in the league didn’t even know Derek white was available this was the beginning of the March towards wanyama and it worked out for everybody he’s one of two players in NBA history with 63p pointers and 20 blocks in a single postseason the other was Tatum in 2022 how nice exactly this is why we to be loved by you and so Derrick White sacrificed everything including his teeth to get here but what about Chris steps porzingis on June 23rd 2023 three team trade with the Grizzlies and the Wizards the Celtics traded Marcus Smart galinari Mike muscala and a second for Chris porzingis and the questions was is it going to work I was hter than fish greas yes you were speak on it forray Marcus Smart but look the the the Vision Joe Missoula with grck and Brad Stevens had right getting a guy that could stretch the floor and block shot and protect the paint and having to get rid of Marcus Smart in the process I didn’t see itk was I right when I told you this was going to be a big a good move they had a trade that wouldn’t have included that they were nervous about making this trade too but if you told them at the time they would have gotten this guy Drew holiday they would have been okay with it they traded Malcolm Brogden Robert Williams and two first to the Blazers for Drew holiday and then holiday shot 5040 95% from the free throw line in the postseason he’s the first player to shoot 50490 in the postseason on at least 125 attempts in NBA history is cheesing right now they gave up role players to get a future Hall of Famer let’s take a listen to what Deuce told Jason Tatum after they finally won it all he told me that was the best in the world I said you damn right I am Banner number 18 that’s been hanging over our head for so many years uh to know that we going to be engraved in history uh and it still hasn’t like registered I’m just still trying to process it all but we did it we won a championship I hope that when people watch us play um they see the joy that we play with um that we love playing together and uh we got it we got it done together and I feel like that’s the most important thing yeah the doubters they may be quieted now but they’ll be back you know they’ll probably be back next year with something else to say um so we just all Embrace that moment the same and get after it yet again next year I mean we’re we’re going to talk about it right now the Celtics they’re built to last with their entire starting lineup set to return next season right Jason Tatum is eligible to sign a supermax deal this offseason that would keep him in Boston for another half decade and you can see how long the rest of the starters are signed up for Derek white the priority right with just one year left here perk you were part of one of the best Celtics teams of all time you know better than anyone how hard it is to get back to that Championship Podium so how many titles in the modern NBA do you think this Celtics team can win I can see them winning three out of the next four years and look I was I was one of the ones that I said last year and this season I don’t believe that we’re going to have backtack Champ we haven’t seen one since Golden State in 17 and we’re on the verge of seeing one now and this team is the real deal led by their two young superstars and Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum and the one thing about Brad Stevens is that he’s never satisfied he said to he said it last night I’m back to the drawing board looking at the draft we don’t know what moves he might try to make again to improve the depth on their bench we don’t know what old man Al Horford is going to do I believe he’s going to return at the end of the day this team is Never Satisfied I think this team is built like we were built to actually go on like to win two or three Champion but you were built that way and then but but but we were injured yeah but injuries can always I know I get that but these guys they just different they different the day after you won the title 08 were you thinking about winning more who the Celtics absolutely cuz I I just think they should celebrate winning one I I get that but let me explain to you now I know our celebration was a little probably a little different than them it looked like they went out on the town we went to kg house now the festivities that we had over there I would not show up can we or we need toal 4:00 in the morning and we stayed up vibing and we talked about what’s next right and we was like we’re about to run them off we’re about to run them off remember I start five went healthy never lost the playoff series together it was just the fact that we we had it on our mind we knew we had a window and we was trying to run them off so I I want the Cel the Celtics to celebrate this Victory before we trying to count the future we are in a period of parody in the NBA this is the sixth consecutive year with a different champ I do think that we’re going to see teams you know bulk up over the next month to try to make a run at them I would love to see the Celtics play the Nuggets because it was just a year ago we were having these same conversations about the nuggets and the Nuggets stubbed their toe on their home court in game seven didn’t get it chance to defend and the new rules that are coming into play that are now fully going to be in effect in effect for the next season when the first apron the second apron it is designed to crack a team like the Celtics apart having said that the the contract extensions that you talked about for white and Tatum won’t kick in until after next season so they will be there for next season and the most important thing out of all this Tatum and brown are 26 and 27 they’re going to be signed for many years into the future and I see no stopping them from being competive for years when Joel andb when he came on the uh countdown for game four you know he talked about the new CBA and the East was hurting things of that nature I gu Bobby Marx he quote tweeted he said I have news for Joel if there’s a team built to negate the apron rules it’s Boston when Bobby Bobby Bobby Bob when Bobby says it I’m listening that we are list one of the reasons we’re listening is because of this dynamic du in Boston Jaylen Brown of course took home the Bill Russell Finals MVP trophy he averaged over 20 points five boards five assists through the NBA Finals marking the end of a dominant playoff run where he was also named MVP of the Conference Finals and I had a chance to interview him just moments after he stepped off the stage last night Banner number 18 has been secured the Celtics are NBA champions there was a moment in 2016 this clip has been going around I’m Jaylen brown one day I’ll be here in this final I want to get here so bad I will be here and now you’re here what would you say to that 20-year-old Jaylen Brown um uh just stay the course um never let anybody break your spirit um you know listen you know be grateful enjoy these moments and some of the moments that you think are ADV ver are setting you back is they really setting you up so just stay the course it’s been 7 years that you and Jason Tatum have been teammates there’s something to be said for winning with the guy who’s been next to you for that long how would you sum up your partnership um it’s been fantastic and I can’t speak enough about JT and his sacrifice and his selflessness all season long we won as a team um we played as a team um we trusted the game plan and JT was the head of that snake so for us to be able to be where we are um you know JT had to be um who he was and it’s just amazing that all the Heartbreak that we’ve went through know coming up short um not meeting the expectations um it just makes this moment even more special um and to share it with him uh through all the growth in the Verity through all the media um it just is it’s it’s amazing an unbelievable run but it will end in disappointment back in 2022 you said that that summer was incredibly difficult to be able to replace that memory with this one can you sum up that feeling uh yeah and uh I think the reason why this moment feels so awesome is because of those moments before uh I know what it feels like to lose I know what it feels like to let people down let yourself down it it it changed me it it helped me grow in those moments really helped lead to this one so um without those moments we don’t get these can you tell me a little bit more about those moments well I think last year hurt the most you know losing on our home floor you know I can feel my teammates all looking towards me and uh it’s like the harder I tried it’s like the worst it got and I feel like I let myself down I let the city down and it was a tough summer I was insane about my work ethic and about improving about growth and I I I approach the summer with that and uh that heartbreak and that feeling of loss and and embarrassment and you know depression kind of is how I got to hear the 2024 Bill Russell Finals MVP goes to Jaylen Brown so now you see this finals MVP trophy in your hand you’re on the best basketball team in the world how do you describe these Boston Celtics it’s hard to quantify we talk about some of the great teams of the past but I know we Stack Up the character of the group of guys that we had was unbelievable it was a full team effort and it was just grateful to be in this position that is my favorite interview that I get to do every year seeing guys on the Mountaintop so congratulations to Jaylen brown but we thought we’d celebrate a little more with some top ofth top best of Jaylen Brown in the NBA Finals where’s Richard when you need him it’s presented by Charles
