[Nichols] A normally-reserved Brad Stevens lets loose on Open Run: “The criticism is stupid. [Tatum & Brown] achieved more than most 25, 26-year-olds ever had. The scrutiny was because they were playing in May & June…I’d rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out, than suck.

This is what’s so funny about it. No one bats an eye at stars who struggle to even make playoffs in the first few years of their career. Everyone points to the fact that LeBron and MJ didn’t win their first titles til their late 20s. But when you got kids making playoff runs and Finals before 25 then they’re chokers and criticized when they don’t win it all.

White guys from Indiana are Gods in Boston.

  3. urfaselol

guys in their mid-20s: “Why he say fuck me for?”

  4. We really got fans of teams who’ve never won a single championship in their lifetimes scrutinizing them for being successful lmao

  5. Wasn’t Rachel one of the people criticising them? You stay over there lady, you’re part of the problem

LeBron, Giannis, Jokic, and Curry were all in the 26-28 age range when they won their first chip and had been playing NBA ball for 6-9 years before that.

People who wanna bury Boston for not winning titles in previous seasons and saying they were underachieving are being silly. It’s very hard to win in the NBA if your stars aren’t in their prime and established. If anything the Celtics have been overachieving for awhile based on where their guys were at in the development cycle.

The most annoying people are the ones that shit on their lack of success, and at the same time downplay their ability as basketball players. Well if your expectation is they should be winning championships, that must mean you think they’re pretty fucking good right?!

  8. I semi serious said before the WCF that it was better for Anthony Edwards legacy if he lost in the conference finals instead of get swept by the Celtics.

It’s absolutely true. The deeper you go, the more scrutiny you face. Luka’s defense was on full display in the Finals and it definitely damaged his reputation in a lot of people’s eyes. Even if he were to eventually win titles, they’ll act like this loss is a stain on his record in the same way they act like Jordan’s 6-0, while also having multiple seasons with a losing record and missing the finals, is more impressive than someone like LeBron making the Finals 10 times in a much deeper and competitive league. For the guys who havent’ accomplished jack shit like SGA, they get to just keep their reputation intact. For the winners like Tatum and Brown, they get knocked for only coming close.

  9. > id rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out, than suck

    great line

Unfortunately when you’re making deep runs every single year you’re going to be scrutinized unfairly

They were criticized for overachieving which is… stupid. Some of the criticisms were fair, but considering how the media sucks off other players that have barely accomplished anything…. So sorry 22 year old Tatum couldn’t make it to the finals. Really sorry 24 year old Tatum couldn’t beat the warriors dynasty. Was all worth it, the growth they’ve made is incredible. Very proud of them, can’t believe the time has come.

I don’t think people understand how rare it is to be the man and win a ring before you turn 25.

  13. been saying this for years lmao. people really act like getting whooped in the Finals is worse than not making it at all

  14. Open-Somewhere-9535

I think people should just “No comment” any narrative/legacy/paparazzi questions like this

Those are manufactured talking points for TV personalities, not the people actually involved

  15. Relevant_Gold4912

Same thing going on with Luka. People ripping him apart because they get to watch his faults on the biggest stage.

  16. Soren_Camus1905

Something about Boston sports that makes people come undone

  17. Overall_Nuggie_876

I’m more impressed with Stevens nearly coaching the 2017 and 2018 Celtics teams into the NBA Finals, even as everyone and their mothers knew LeBron’s Cavs were going to become victorious anyway in that era out of the East.

Is rachel drunk? or is she wearing a retainer or something?

  19. TES_Elsweyr

What’s the dude bathing in? Holy water? He looks half his age.

  20. LoWE11053211

say what about the Celtics franchise or fanbase

but the team does not suck for like 5-6 years.

  21. __I_AM_HUMAN__

Been a huge Brad Stevens fan ever since his college coaching days. He deserves all the success!

  22. GastropodSoup

Brad Stevens is the man. Going from unknown Butler assistant to President of Operations for Celtics and winning a NBA title in less than 20 years.

  23. PussyLunch

A new dynasty is before us.

All this team needed was some confidence and they got that now. I think a three peat is doable.
