6 Moves 76ers MUST Make To Beat The Boston Celtics Next Season

[Music] all right welcome into the show this is Philadelphia 76ers Now by chat sports I’m Chase senior thanks for choosing us and making us a part of your day and coming up how the Sixers this off season can build a roster to Dethrone the Boston Celtics and it makes me sick in saying this but as we all know by now the Celtics are the 2023 2024 NBA champ Champions and they will return next year with an absolutely loaded roster after they just raised up Banner number 18 now you look ahead for Philadelphia the Sixers have the cap space and the assets to shake up the team to really make their imprint on the NBA and to take down a Celtics team that has owned Philadelphia going all the way back to the 1980s because Philadelphia has not beaten the Celtics in a playoff series since the 1980s so we’re going to take a look and break down six moves that Philadelphia must make in order to Dethrone Boston and this is just wild and it speaks to the incompetence of this Sixers organization over the last decade or so since Joel embiid’s first game for the 76ers the Celtics have made it to six Eastern Conference Finals two NBA finals and after beating the Dallas Mavericks taking Luca donic and Kyrie Irving down in five games they now have an NBA championship Banner number 18 for Boston and if you are with me the Celtics for me the team that I hate the most in professional sports and it’s not even close Boston over the Dallas Cowboys over the New York Giants I hate the Boston Celtics more than the Atlanta Braves the New York Mets it’s not even close if you’re with me I want you to hit that thumbs up icon and like the video so as for those six moves to take down the Celtics move number one darl mury get on the phone call up the Brooklyn Nets and trade for Mel Bridges our bridges trade idea the 76ers get Bridges you bring them back home you already have missed in not taking Jason Tatum as well as Jaylen Brown you finally hit on Bridges and you traded him away for zier Smith it’s time to write your wrongs bring him back you also get Dorian finny Smith and then the Nets receive Paul Reed Ricky Council and at this point you might have to overpay but I’m trying to chase down the Celtics you give up first round picks in 2024 and 2026 and in 2028 via the Clippers and then in 2030 as well I get it chit it’s a lot of picks but if you want to compete with Boston and you want to make that Drew holiday type of move where you bring in a High character player who’s a very good defensive player who fits in very well and is willing to sacrifice offensively and you want to compete with Boston it’s the bridges trade yeah look you want to get people with Boston you’re going to have to go all in there’s just nothing else you can say to it right so if you got to give up four first round picks I don’t want to trade po Reed I don’t want to trade rookie Council I want both of them to be on this team next year but you know what if this is what it takes to go to play like Bridges who I think out of all the options out there fits the best and is cost effective as well I think you make the move four first round picks sh if they want five first round picks I’d do it you do what you got to do to get players that can help you win and help you beat Boston Philly needs a top tier Wing who can shoot the three and defend and you get Mel Bridges and Dorian pH Smith is also a very good player and would probably start for this team so I I know it’s a lot and I know people in the comments might be saying I don’t give up two young players and four picks but guess what that’s what these kind of players cost the Nets have been not wanting to move Bridges so if you come at them with this offer they might just be willing to do it Jason Tatum 26 years old Jaylen Brown 27 years old you need a player who can lock one if not both of those players down throughout the course of a series throughout the course of a basketball game and Jaylen Brown wins NBA final MVP his development has been incredible and then Jason Tatum in that game five had one of his M Rushmore games it’s right up there with the way that he was Distributing the ball scoring the basketball with what he did in game six in the second round against Philadelphia last year an excellent Jason Tatum game and you get the Tatum SL Brown stopper in mcau bridges so would you do this trade a for accept D for decline you’re giving up a lot of picks but again the goal for today’s show is to put together a team that can beat the Boston Celtics move number two in free agency Yan cavius cwp now Bridges is a very affordable player for the level of player that he is so you’re still going to have some money left over and kcp is one of those glue guys kcp is a player who can down threes he’s won a title he can defend at a really high level and you get a bunch of gritty guys who are willing to be slimy get it out of the mud and get over the fact that this Sixers organization has been full of perennial losers and they haven’t won any big games I need some winners on my club the Celtics for a long time with Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown they kept coming up short they make the move for holiday they trade for Chris STS porzingis they keep Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum together another year of growth for them and now they’re scary looking ahead because now they got that one title the monkeys off their back they know what it takes and they become a dangerous team you need to match their mental toughness and you can do that with Bridges you can do that with kcp the contract that we’re giv out three years $51 million and that might sound like a lot but again this is a player who fits what you want to do really really well and you look at his numbers over the last four years he’s going to give you 10 to 13 points per game he’s going to shoot around 39 40 41 42% from three and play really good defense this is a player who in the last three years has averaged more than a steel perr and is feisty on that end of the floor moves to beat Boston as the third installment of today’s show you resign your own guys you have a lot of cap space not as much after giving a bag to bridges inheriting that contract of course and paying kcp and you also want to keep this nucleus together Joel embiid Nick nurse Daryl Moore they’ve talked about having continuity the Celtics outside of Drew holiday and christops porzingis returned a lot of players who have played a lot of basketball together for Philadelphia it’s a different team every single year so obviously you’re going to give Tyrese Maxi his new deal five years $25.9 million he’s earned that a great developmental story for Philadelphia that is something worth celebrating Nick patum convince him to keep playing because we saw last year he could still play at a very high level in this league two years nine with the player option and then campaign a backup ball handler who can also playoff ball who is not scared again we’re going to lose to Anthony Melton I need some dogs because the Sixers have not had that dog mentality and they keep coming up short mentally against this Celtics organization that continues to own them they’re two of the best brands in basketball two of the most historic organizations in NBA history you can’t write the history of the NBA without Philadelphia and without Boston but I’m tired of being the redheaded stepchild I’m tired of being the little brother chip and this is when you have to be bold when the opportunity is there yeah so so far we trade for Bridges also get Dory and FY Smith two guys that I think can start for this team in the playoffs you bring in kcp another guy think can start next to Maxi in the back court in the playoffs yeah you make those moves first right and that’s going to take up a large majority of the cap space you have left not all of it but most of it and then at that point you got to bring back some some guys but the point I wanted to make here was you can’t bring back everybody I know people are going to be like where is UB you know buddy heel DeAnthony mton Kyle Lowry look Kelly UB doesn’t seem like he’s gonna be back the Sixers don’t have his bird rights which means the Sixers can’t go over the cap over the salary cap to bring him back so they’d have to resign him with their remaining cap space they they won’t have enough to do that especially if they make these moves they won’t have enough so he’ll be gone buddy hee kind of the same thing not sure how much money he’ll be getting but look the Sixers really want to have much money left after making these moves and then a couple more after this as well so he gone Melton I think the writing is on the wall there especially with his back injury Kyle Lowry could bring him back Fair minimum I chose to bring back campaign rather than Kyle Lowry but you know if you want to bring Lowry back on a minimum that could you could do that as well there’s some rumors that Clippers are interested we’ll see what happens there but so it’s Maxi obviously Batum campaign those three guys are the three guys I would bring back in this scenario again where you’re spending a lot of your money already bringing in the salaries of bridges which is about 23 million Dorian finny Smith is about 15 and then cavius cwell Pope is about 17 again that’s going to put you right up against that salary cap threshold so you exception that the Sixers have at their disposal on Gary Trent JR this is a player who Nick nurse is familiar with I think he adds a lot of athleticism to your rotation you can use him as a star you can bring him in Off the Bench this is kind of like having that athletic Wing which we celebrated when the Sixers brought in Kelly UB and we saw him really have a career year now a lot of you are probably asking yourselves Chase chip what is the mid-level exception it is a salary cap exception that allows teams over the salary cap to sign a player this year’s mle is worth $12.9 million so with Gary Trent Jr he might be able to fetch more than this out on the open market but you come play for Nick neris alongside Tyrese Maxi Joel embiid Mikel Bridges do you want the opportunity to chase down the Boston Celtics and take down Boston to avoid and keep them from getting Banner number 19 so a three-year $ 38.7 million deal for Gary Trent and what I like about him as well he doesn’t have any fear Gary Trent Jr is a very confident player and this is a player who you can rely on to be available to put up good production who can defend shoot score kind of at all three levels and is a feisty tenacious Defender about a steel and a half or more maybe a little bit less over the last four years between Portland and Toronto Gary Trent Jr is a player who I think would fit very well on this team and then you have to be able to find a quality backup center to Joel embiid a player who can back up embiid who can come in for embiid if embiid is getting rest or God forbid hopefully next year is the year in which embiid stays healthy if embiid does get hurt Andre drumman is the type of player who we’ve seen him work out in Philadelphia probably the best backup Center that him beat has had throughout his career which is kind of sad to say but Andre Drummond can protect the rim he can defend he’s a great rebounder runs the floor pretty well and gives the Sixers energetic minutes and this is a player who when em beat is out the plus minus falls off a cliff now that speaks to the greatness of Joel MB but with Andre Drummond it’s not going to be as great of a discrepancy now what we’re talking about here we’re not talking to you baay like hey ba we’re talking about using the bay what is the bay the biannual exception another salary cap exception here for teams over the cap but it can only be used every other year so the Sixers can use the by annual exception here it’s worth $4.7 million so we hand out a 2-year $9.5 million contract to Andre Drummond using the bay and over the last four years for Andre Drummond look at what he did with Philadelphia in Brooklyn he was a part of the James Harden Ben Simmons trade that year he’s averaging eight points and nine rebounds last year with Chicago he’s averaging eight and a half and nine with about a steal per game he can block shots get in the way of passing Lanes make things difficult for the opposing offense and too often backup centers behind and beid have been a traffic cone and on offense they don’t add anything with Andre Drummond putbacks dunks lobs he at least can give you that so then your potential rotation becomes Tyrese Maxi cavius Caldwell pop mcel Bridges Dorian finny Smith Joel MB that’s your starting lineup there and at times you can start Gary Trent Jun if kcp needs a night off Nick Batum can start we’ve seen him be successful in that role but then your backups with a couple of spots to fill campaign Gary Trent Jr Nick patum Andre Drummond and you trade away that 16th overall pick right you still have that second round pick at number 41 that is the making of a good team and then finally with those remaining roster spots that I just alluded to you fill out the Rost with some minimum deals and the minimum targets that you could Target players with playoff chops with a lot of experience who are willing to curl the Foxhole with you in order to Dethrone the Celtics J Crowder Tory Craig bring back Fus young he’s still going Jeff Green andoran Prince thieves moves put Philadelphia right at that first apron Josh Harris you you own the commanders you own the Devils you own the Sixers sometimes you have talked a big game but under your stewardship and under your watch Philadelphia has been a perennial loser they haven’t made it past the second round since 2001 we know that you’re rich you’re a multi-billionaire if you weren’t you would have purchased the Washington commanders it’s time to put your sack on the table and I’m talking about your balls and your money sack and the necessary moves to make this Sixers team legit and you got to be aggressive you got to spend and you got to go for it so that’s my message to Josh Harris who up to this point has been a fraud Daryl myy it’s time to do your thing man you talk a big game too put up or shut up and Joel embi stay healthy you have the two superstars you have an elite coach you have all this money this is the offseason to make it happen if not now then when chip could this roster compete for a title look it’s going to be tough the Boston Celtics just went 16 and three in the NBA Playoffs 8- one in the Conference Finals and NBA Finals they went 80 and 21 on the year when you combine regular season and playoffs 80 and 20 W and again they’re not going anywhere Drew holiday Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown Derek white Chris EPS porzingis they’re all going to be back next year so you’ve got to put together a team that is better than what you had last year for sure even prior to when be’s injury I think you have to upgrade on that and a team that you’re confident when it gets down to it in the postseason has dogs and guys that you trust in those closing moments and guys that aren’t going to be afraid of the moment and I think someone like cavius Coldwell Pope who won a championship with the Lakers in 2020 won a championship with the Nuggets last year you get a Dorian finny Smith who’s your prototypical 3 andd I think Gary Trent Jr is a great six-man type option for this team Andre Drummond Big Body Center fills that need you have there after trading Paul Reed in the Mel Bridges deal look you give up a lot of your assets and this is kind of the team you’re stuck with away moving forward cuz you give up a lot of your first round picks and you got to hope it works out you better hope it works out y but with Bridges still being young and this this construction of the team I think out of all the options you have this off season all the realistic ones I think this is the best chance you have at formulating a roster that can compete with the Celtics and no look no matter what it’s going to be tough because that roster is again so talented but you have a chance this off season to shake things up make some big moves and make a run and I think if you make these six moves we talked about here today you put yourself in the best position to do that what say you could the 76ers beat Boston with these moves I want to gauge where the fan base is at here because last night I was sick watching Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown Celtics fans raising the Larry O Al Horford looking
