There’s also no question the Raptors have interest in keeping Trent, if the salary and terms are amenable to them…His contract requests won’t be exorbitant… any expected pay raise on a new deal won’t break the bank…

    >Trent will, though, have choices. The question, and the reason why the Raptors have the advantage the new rule creates, is if Trent takes the money and years offered instead of gambling he’ll be worth more on the market.

Pay raise? Am I the only one who would be shocked by that? Him getting the same ~18m he made this last year seems like a slight overpay considering Grayson Allen just signed a 4/70m extension and he had a ton of leverage on PHX, not to mention he was better than GTJ this year.

I’ve said it before: offer him around 3/45m. If he takes it, cool. If not, let him go.

Could see a shorter deal a la some 40-45/2 just to keep him around for the sake of continuity or as a trade piece as part of a larger deal if this team is ahead of schedule but I’d be surprised if it’s anything longer than that.

Frankly, I think if Trent does get a new deal from us, a vocal contingent of this fanbase is not going to like what his next deal looks like i.e. it’s not going to be the MLE as some have suggested

  4. we couldn’t even get a pick for him.

I’m way more interested in giving Gradey more playing time even if we won’t be competitive.

Doug Smith, fellas. Stop giving him exposure.

Raps DESPERATELY need shooting, but I’d let him walk and see what they have in Dick rather than pay Trent.
