The Latest on the Cavaliers Coaching Search – Sports4CLE, 6/18/24
we know the Cavs have talked to to a number of head coaching candidates um do you have a sense where they are in in the process of hiring one we’ve heard James bgo you’ve heard um Kenny Atkinson is kind of the the leader are those accurate are those guys that are highly thought of you think I actually think James bgo is the leader in the clubhouse that’s the sense that I get from my sources um I’m also told that the Cavs are looking at the possibility of interviewing one or two more candidates before making um an actual decision when it comes to this it’s been more than a month since the Cavs moved on from JB bicker staff it’s been a wide ranging extensive search that’s what it was um the last time the Cavs embarked on this thing about five years ago it led them to John beine that was a terrible decision that they made but they recovered from it thanks to JB bicker staff um in saying that uh I I do believe that the Cavs are comfortable with the candidates that they’ve interviewed um they’ve moved on to to the in-person interviews which are really really important during this process they’ve had some guys that they’ve talked to over Zoom um I’m told that the the number of candidates that they had conversations with is close to double digits um but but everything that I continue to hear Dave is that James bgo is somebody who impressed them in their interviews there are two interviews with him one over zoom and one in person um he does fit the parameter ERS of the offensive mind that they’re looking for to kind of get the most out of Darius Garland and and Donovan Mitchell together and try and improve this offense to a level um where it’s better than what it was in the last two playoffs um and and James Bargo has so many different ties because of his one year in New Orleans uh with people that the Cavs really really trust so the kind of feedback that they’re getting um number one has been flattering but number two it’s coming from guys that the Cavs have close connections to so they believe it more right it’s not as much BS David Griffin is the mentor to Kobe Alman uh Larry NCH Jr played for James bergo so they can get a players perspective because Larry NCH Jr was a Cav and he still has close ties to various members in this organization and there was also somebody in the Cav’s front office a few years ago that when he left Cleveland he went to New Orleans and he was on the coaching staff with James bgo they’ve reached out to him as well so all of those kinds of ties and the information that the Cavs are getting it’s a different kind of information it’s a different kind of confidence that you have in that feedback um because of those relationships
