Offense explodes for 18 hits, 9 runs as Phillies get back on track with win over Padres | PPGL

[Music] [Applause] [Music] is it any wonder that the Phillies are now 28 and 10 at home and I know how well Phillies fans travel Ricky Bo in general to London to Boston to Baltimore but I was over at that ballpark tonight and there’s something about the vibe the juice the energy the passion that run right through those fans and it goes right into the Dugout and it gets into Christopher Sanchez and into am I going too far welcome to Phillies postgame live presented by cure AO Insurance Ricky balico I’m I believe I will nine to two Phillies and that’s the way you snap out of it they lost they snap out of it I I said I wanted to see something from the top of the lineup because isn’t that what we expect one through four in this lineup it’s June so it’s schwarber month he showed off a little bit tonight couple home runs and everybody else in that one through four uh in the Phillies lineup today swinging the bats 9 for 18 yeah this is just a thing of beauty that I mean this is what you want to see uh you know how deep do you want to go in the lineup everybody kind of contributed but I think the the one through four in the lineup showed why they’re they’re one through four in the lineup today yeah and and I’m talking you look at Bryce Harper you look at Alec guess who’s back bone Alec bone Al bone this guy’s r again and schwarber with a couple home runs and nice to see Trey Turner back sure is nice to see Ben Davis in the booth calling tonight’s game Tom McCarthy Ben is here with his baseball let’s go across the street to the booth there it is that’s I believe it’s a Ben Davis autograph Ricky show Ricky’s got one look at this Ricky’s got one too Ben so there we’re we’re all tied at one ball a piece uh Benny what’s the most impressive part of this victory tonight to you because there’s so many aspects to choose from that’s a tough one Michael all right next question I I guess you got to go with Sanchez first and foremost he was just awesome and it’s nice to see him rebound after that start he had in Boston he just didn’t have command well he had command of all all three pitches tonight he was outstanding the Sinker change up especially uh great combo there uh and he’s maintaining that velocity throughout those seven Innings that he pitched as well so that was fun to see schwarber doing his thing again two two home runs four RBI I mean this guy’s it’s it’s June so I guess we should kind of expect it Alec bow doing his thing 60 RBI on June 17th uh that’s that it’s remarkable up and down the lineup Trey Turner with a couple knocks I mean you could go on and on and on even they play a little uh small ball tonight uh just putting some balls in play we had David do getting uh runner to third base with less than two outs and Maran comes up and hits one in the center for a knock they just did just about everything right tonight um you know it was just a great win well Ben you know uh you know what when I look even deeper into this game there was a catcher behind the plate tonight I mean he he was four for four in a game couple runs scored couple RBI that’s not what really impressed me it seems to to me like he maran’s behind the plate for a reason I mean tell me about what you’re seeing from him defensively well first and foremost he’s got great hands and you know he’s they’re firm but they’re soft if that makes any sense in the s that he receives the ball soft but he sticks it there Ricky it’s not it’s not like he’s taking his riding it back or he’s riding it down out of the zone or he’s catching the outside of it and moving the ball it’s here bam and he’s catching it it’s not going anywhere so he presents it to the Umpire extremely well uh something I noticed on the Friday night game in Baltimore when he was catching a couple guys came in some key situations he was able to get those calls because of his hands and how good his hands are you saw the rocket of of an arm um you know yes he got four hits tonight and contributed offensively but he was he was on top of his game they had a great g game plan going into tonight’s game and they executed it perfectly but you know he’s a guy that unfortunately he’s had setbacks the last couple years with injury um but he’s he made the most of it tonight and I think he’s going to continue to do that until JT gets back back to Alec bow for a moment because here’s a guy who really has grown into his years in the major leagues and certainly with the Phillies he was talking several games ago about how baseball’s a funny game how it’s a lucky game and you really need a lot of luck to get out of a slump and when he had a couple of hits during that that period when he was in kind of in the desert and now he’s back at it again and I think that’s an important point that that he’s just calm about it if he’s not hitting okay he’s not hitting he’ll get himself out of it and it seems like he has how in your view how has he done it then well I think he just he never got away from his approach and sometimes we as hitters when it’s going really good you know hitting is never easy but when it’s going really good like it was for him earlier in the year you just kind of ride that out and when it goes really badly like it was you know up until the the Baltimore series for a couple weeks he didn’t Panic he didn’t try and change him he just started Gap Back to Basics let pitches get deeper in the strike zone trust your hands use the whole field and and and so on and so forth but that that series down in Baltimore really got him going again saw the three-run Homer tonight A couple more knocks uh he’s just too good of a hitter to be silenced for that long because he’s a hitter first and foremost and what he’s doing with his run production with the 60 RB on June 17th that’s remarkable as well remember firm but soft Ben firm but soft that’s what we aspire to Ben Davis joining us from across the street at the yard with his baseball you all right there yeah yeah Michael I’m just glad you’re back in studio buddy you know I’m glad to I’m as surprised as you you know what I’m saying surprised they let him back in Ben I’m surprised they did as well after the performance of you and Ricky Paul yesterday was amazing usually Wally pip doesn’t get that seat back yes indeed yes indeed my name is Wally it did not do that tonight why we we used to see it where maybe they just had good scouting reports maybe you got way too much of the plate I think it’s more of the ladder I think Vasquez left a lot of his pitches out over the middle of the plate and when I I say a regular type pitcher he’s not there and he’s not going to be too sneaky against you and what you see is what you get I mean if you’re sitting on a certain pitch obviously you want to see fast ball early on the counts but you know you think about a 20 curveball right over the middle of the plate with to to Kyle schwarber that’s not brilliant that’s not brilliant I mean you just got to think about what you’re doing stay out of the middle of the plate but he left he left a couple baseballs out over the middle of the plate and the Philly belted them around the ballpark let’s get back to your preent observation from the pregame program when you said one for one through four needs to show up they showed and then some 9 for 18 five runs scored seven runs batter in three home runs batters one through four Alec bone Chief among them Kyle schwarber the same yeah I I just felt like this was the time you know you’re coming off of this odd road trip that nothing really went well I know you w a game in Boston you win a game in Baltimore but nothing felt right about that trip I don’t know how you felt but it just it felt awkward it felt long it felt like I I wanted to put pins and needles in my toes that’s what it felt like because it was getting to feel like that was the type of trip they were on and now all of a sudden they they come back home and my first thought was okay home cooking what is a recipe for good home cooking how about a good beaten down by the one through four hitters because when you look at who’s in that one through four spot you got Kyle schwarber leading off this is June so you expect him to do a little something Trey Turner coming back in the lineup you it’s almost expected he gets a hit or two isn’t it in in a game like this the three hitter Bryce Harper he is Bryce Harper I mean and then you have Alec B who has started a little Trend going back upwards for himself started that in Baltimore so you figured well Alec bow he’s going to keep it going it’s exactly what happened I mean I literally couldn’t draw it up any better than this look at the June boom though from Kyle schwarber he’s known as Mr June we’ve seen what he’s done we talked about it last week with regard to the players that he is ahead of are in the same company as like Babe Ruth like blue Garrick numbers in June 14 games 291 five home runs two doubles 12 RBI and an Ops of 1,000 and as mentioned his on base percentage is 373 maybe he’s better than the prototypical leadoff man maybe he is breaking the mold at and this is what you want from your leadoff guy you saw the Orioles gunar Henderson is their leadoff guy that guy’s a little scary he could come up there put them up one- nothing boom right like that in the first inning I look at why don’t doesn’t anybody in our own mindset in our Philadelphia Phillies mindset look at Kyle schwarber and say wow this guy could put you up one nothing wow this guy’s running a lot better than he did last year wow he could go two bases at a time I I mean it’s typical baseball stuff that he needs to do you look at his on base percentage over 370 now yes take that all you people who wanted somebody else in there over 370 and and the batting average is very respectable this year home runs what 16 now am I am I right it might be off one and I mean he does everything that you could ask him to do he does he’s not showy he’s not like a showoff just goes out there and plays the G baseball yeah I look at him and gutter H Henderson as two scary individuals at the top of a lineup and by the way we we left we so far we have left out Trey Turner who makes his return today who gets a huge Ovation from the fans he’s only two for five with a run scored what do you think of terrible what do you think of Turner’s return I thought he stayed on the ball very well I mean that was my biggest concern the the one thing you think about he didn’t go down to the minor leagues he didn’t go down to get at BS you know they do things a little bit differently now obviously uh he I’m sure he took a lot of BP I’m sure he saw a lot of some live pitching here and there but for a guy of his stature to just jump up there and get right back into the big league level and hit the ball hard a few times I I think that’s a good sign for the Phillies yeah and now is getting there again he is there again batting them in look at this Ricky Bo Phillies runs batted in through the first 72 games of a season and this man is in there with the greats and that’s just a fact Ryan Howard twice 6 6 RBI through 72 games did that no6 World Series championship year of’ 0862 Utley 62 Mike Schmidt 61 and there’s bone with 60 so he’s on his way he he of all the younger players has taken that next step uh you know you you expect guys to take steps up through through the through the uh number one through the organization but then when you get to the big leagues you expect them to take incremental steps to being good good good and better better better and I think this is a guy that’s done it every single year uh and it’s not not without he’s had some rough spots he’s had some potholes there’s no doubt about it but I mean he’s gotten himself out of those potholes even this year he had that little string of errors that he was running through he got himself out of that and now look what what he’s doing well well over 300 again 60 plus RBI this is uh this is impressive it is when we last saw Rob Thompson he was getting tossed from yesterday’s game at Baltimore let’s see if he with Mike esbrook did he make it through here’s Rob Thompson postgame manager’s office it’s good to be home of the club when it came home get in Fr of things and put the road trip behind and just start over again what was that the kind the minds of the club tonight yeah I think so it’s kind of a reset and uh get home get some home cooking get sleep in your own bed and um I think that helps and and our fan base really helps us out too with energy levels so it was good I know you got contributions up and down the lineup but those first four first time in six weeks you’ve had him and N for 18 just nice to have that yeah really you know um you know Trey’s unbelievable athlete because you don’t he had really good at bats really good swings looks like his timing was was was good um and that’s says something about a guy that hasn’t had in a bat in a long time what have you thought of this first week back from Maran he’s played great I mean what a great throw he can he can really catch he can really throw he gets four hits today I mean must have gone to church this morning but but he that’s four hits you know so um yeah he’s he’s a good player is is the schwaber in June thing just coincidence is there any reason why he tends to get hot this time of year I have no idea I really do I don’t I don’t I you know I I think some guys are like that some guys start off hot some guys finish hot you know it’s just what he does I guess Rob seems like for the past 10 days we’ve been asking about London and hangover and being on the road nice have everything clicked tonight Sanchez was great the offense 18 hits yeah San was great played good defense turned three double plays um but San you know he established his secondary pitches early throwing strikes he was getting ahead uh went right after the hitters and and and when he does that he’s good he usually has success and uh his last start in Boston I didn’t think he establish his secondary pitches as well as he did tonight so it was a good sign how a TR to you in all three phases great you know it makes a diving play at the end marfield turns marfield can really turn double play um yeah I thought he looked solid all the way around what you no Al this recent hot stretch yeah it looks like he did you know a month ago or whenever that was I mean he’s he’s using the entire field and he’s he’s um he’s pulling balls he should pull and he’s hitting ball the other way on pitches he should hit the other way so yeah he’s playing great with you in June this just a matter of the work you put in in April and May finally come to F in June or just something that just happens um I mean I wish I could have an answer and I wish that you know right you know baseball’s such a crazy game where you know you you can fluctuate but you know you just have to be able to kind of just stay the same and come into the same day same guy every day and stay with the work and yeah I mean you the results have been there the last couple M or sorry the last couple Junes but um you know I think you know this year it’s just ACC credit the you know starting you know better and staying with the work and having a good base from spring training coming into coming into the season and being able to stick with it from a team standpoint tonight after a tough road trip home what was if you guys are kind of get the jump early yeah it felt like we were on the road for like a month um you know obviously uh some you know went over to London cool trip and then um you know fac a couple pretty good teams and uh it’s nice just to be able to get back home you know obviously you know credit to our fans traveling really well for us over this road trip and um you know it’s just nice for everyone to get back home get back to the bank can um you know get back and it feel like we’re we’re back at home right and and uh go from there so definitely felt good and you know obviously another plus having Trey out there and seeing him come back and Marcy came back and and Baltimore you know you know it’s nice to see that see that as well how impressed were you felt like we were away for about a month and in fact they were away for 12 days they last played here June 5th then to London then to Boston then to Baltimore and finally back here Ricky Bo the fans knew it they welcomed girls with open arms tonight

After what seemed like forever, the Phillies are back at home and back in the win column with a 9-2 win over the Padres. Two homers from Kyle Schwarber, a four-hit night from Rafael Marchán, and another great night for Cristopher Sánchez on the mound lead the way. Hear from Schwarber, Rob Thomson, and the Phillies PGL crew after the Phils get back on track. #Phillies

  1. Davis is lame
Sanchez really? No its Marchan its KS its the fact fking Rojas is finally gone and see when the 9th dude does something. KS home runs are 2 run shots. Marchan is so much better then Stubbs and I dont give 2 shits about Stubbs vibes. Guarantee DD made the move to demote Rojas. Fking Thomson would play this dude till our eyes bleed out

Phillies could have drafted Gunner Henderson by the way

  2. Phillies went from London to Boston to Baltimore. MLB screwed us with that schedule with no days off. It was also Father’s Day. They needed to get back to CBP.

  3. Realmuto is the leader of this team. He’s the heart and soul but he was so bad at the plate before he got hurt.

  4. I really really want Amy Fadool to be the regular host of the post games.Let Barkann do the eagles and sixers.i'm sure all those players got the jabs so he won't have any problem with any of them……I never forgot.

  5. Don't tell Kyle can run the bases. I have seen too many times him held up at third when most guys can would have the green.. Although he's a smart base runner for the most part..

  6. Well excuse me! Rafael Marchàn going 4 for 4 is a big reason too of the line up did great in all honesty! Having a switch hitter in that 9 hole is something we have probably Never had! I get yesterday not putting Marchàn in catching Zack Wheeler so you put Stubbs in but Rafael was great. Great to see our Phillies explode 💯

  7. Vasquez woow , u stink dude , really a glimpse into how bad Starting pitching can be in this league , if u had trouble w Vasquez ur prob a bum. , I never seen so much meat on the plate , and the gift to Bohm of leaving him in was unquestionably redic , but good for Bohm. Also Marsh #5 in Allstar voting Casty #6. ,WTF. Get a grip Phillies Fans,

  8. Well we Knew(Or should have known) that we were gonna go thru some adversity. You just can't keep winning and winning. Especially when being without 3 starters (Marsh/Turner/JT). Great to get back two so we can get back to hitting and winning. Like I said weeks ago, we will get it going again. Just to much talent not to. Adversity can do nothing but help you in the long run. We Will Be Just Fine going forward.

  9. Why do these dudes still bring up the Schwarber as the lead off
thing? That was like 2 seasons ago that was a topic and legit anytime he does something good both Ricky and Ben have to make some smart comment about how he’s the greatest lead off hitter of all time. Dude is having a phenomenal season though 😂

  10. Either someone got through to him during the offseason, or Schwarber finally realized that it would be hard to get a new contract by anyone after next season if he didn't get his average up. He's 70 points above where he was last year at this very same point in the season. That is staggering. Also, he changed his swing back to the way it was when he came up from the minors with his top hand releasing. That was when he was a near .280 avg hitter with the Cubs his first season. He could be come back player of the year.

  11. Outfield production is a problem to solve. Rojas is not the guy. Harper back to Right Crawford in Center, Bohm to first and Aiden Miller at 3rd. WS. Thank you
