today’s top story from the perspective of someone who’s there you are looking live this just in not my beat Our Guest today is a show favorite anytime there is an intersection of what’s going on in DC Sports or perhaps on Tik Tok uh where a DC Sports uh big time person is is hanging out in the background and uh what’s going on in the Bay Area it’s our pleasure to welcome in our friend Bon Hill to talk about it 957 the game out in the bay Bon what’s up man how are you what’s going on man long time no talk I was just talking to a producer saying that man usually this is dead zone for for people out there at DC but you got the Nationals playing some good baseball out there we do um I we have a running joke I’m not a huge baseball guy we kind of have a running joke on the show is like are the Nationals playing well enough for us to Care um and they’re getting dangerously close I might have to start paying attention tonte because they are playing some good ball they deserve credit uh and Nats fans just so you if you’re listening it’s not a shot at the Nationals it’s just a reality of where they are in their long-term rebuild and um my own baseball proclivities but that’s okay that’s not what we’re talking to you about though Bonte we’re talking to you about Brandon auk’s Tik Tock because he does not seem particularly thrilled with the San Francisco 49ers can you give us the the on the ground non-tick tocki version of of the state of play between Brandon in the 49ers right now I I must follow up with the baseball stuff I’m the same way with the Giants I love baseball but the Giants they they stink and it’s really hard to watch um not moving on football the more important things yeah the iuk situation to me this one is getting nasty um and look we just had Deo Samuel out here who scrubbed his Instagram and actually demanded he trade and wanted to get traded to the New York Jets what the niners did explore they explored trading Debo Samuel they just figured you know what we’re not going to get the conversation that we want for Deo Samuel he’s had some all-time years he’s a playmaker fits in this offense let’s just all out and wait this out they waited it out and credit to dbo Samuel he came to training camp and was a hold in where he practiced on the side field until they got their numbers right and he had just signing a contract this one feels a little different because of all the players they have to pay right next year they’re gonna have to figure out whether or not they want to play taloa hufanga travarus Ward the alador Lenor then you got the dvo S situation where he’s getting D Sam that is where you can get up 24 to 28 million next year and obviously you can keep both you got the Brock py extension looming over this organization which we just saw what Chev Lawrence got Brock bir 55 million per year we may be looking at that so there’s to many mouths to feed when it comes to the money so iuk knows that but at the same time he put together one of the best seasons a 49er wide receiver has had since to W to Jersey I mean 19.7 yard catch second in the league uh 75 catches on the team number one on the League he’s durable he is Brock P’s number one target he’s the best rout runner in the football team so this one feels like it’s going to be a while and they can ill afford to have Brandon auk not show up to training camp um this year because you need that report of Brock pry there’s too much on the line This Could Be the Last Ride with this current group at the 49ers so this one is a little messy man and the fans are split some fans believe that they don’t need Brenan auk to get back to the Super Bowl I’m not one of those fans I believe they do need Brenan auk because take him away we all know dbo Samuel is not the best pure out runner he’s more of a playmaker not a wide receiver then you got a rookie and Ricky piol you’re asking him to pick up the slack and the load in his first year in the league oh man so it’s it’s getting a little nasty and fans are kind of they’re in the buyer Craig where they’re thinking well do you pay auk the 26 to 30 million is he worth the 26 to 30 million a season what’s going on here so it’s getting nastier and nastier by the day so there’s a couple of follow-up questions that then get we get to Bonte which let’s start off with from the ners perspective if you’re that front office and you’re Kyle Shanahan are you like I don’t care if we lose him for nothing next year we’re a Super Bowl Contender we need everybody we’ll deal with that later this is the last run and you just run it back or do you try to continue to do the long-term play and and do you sign him to an extension or if you can’t do that trade him that way you don’t lose him for nothing like are they more in the short-term boat or the long-term boat I I think they were in both right around the draft R the NFL drafts a lot of smoke with the Pittsburgh Steelers and I do believe John LED kind of tipped his hand saying hey look we always pick up the phone so in order to trade Brandon I you could get something back I think that ship is sell you want something that can help you for this season trading him right now to get future picks does not help you in the short term and by the way KD and dvo and all these guys we discussing for own are getting older so do you want to trade Bron now you this year to get picks for the future I think that’s bad business by the 49ers now I do believe they want long now to be the long-term solution at one of the wide receiver spots to build that report of Brock py to be a long-term fixture knowing that Deo and kle may be playing their last season with the 49ers I think you have to do it this is a guy they picked in the first round and groomed him know how difficult it is a playing couch the system especially as a wide receiver this is a guy who I work himself from from the dogghouse to not play in his rookie year much to not playing much in this rookie season to the second season not starting right away and then finally coming off and bring on the scene because he is a complete wide receiver so I do believe the ners looking at Brandon now you guys a longterm fixture here but the money is tight I get it the money’s tight and for the fans we just take the 264 they getting 14 anyway it’s not how business Works especially in this league where they could cut you in the blink of an eye and you’re not gonna get how many players even see the indor contracts are crying out loud so if for Brenan iuk you got to get your money but for the 49ers this is a long-term play to keep Brenan iuk in San Francisco because if you trade him now thinking about the short term saying hey maybe we could get away and by the way Craig sh is probably that arrogant to believe that he could go to the Super Bowl without a Brandon a Because he believes his system is the quarterback here not necessarily Brock P you know what I’m saying his system his play calling and play design will help the ners score a lot of points and santaan a again to the point where he may believe that because I mean this guy tried to sell us on Nick Mullins for crying out loud see they better we saw how that worked out so um I I think short be bad this is to trade iuk right now that ship is sailed but long term they do want to keep iuk knowing that KD and Debo could be playing their last seasons with the 49ers yeah I mean the funny thing about like bethard and and those and Mullins is they were so much better in San Francisco than they been anywhere else but they’re still CJ bethard and Nick Mullen so like Kyle’s both right and and uh it’s got its limitations and the talent uh certainly matters it’s something that uh you know we certainly hope that Adam Peters knows now that he’s here uh with us in in DC uh of course the former assistant general manager out there in San Francisco Bon Hills Our Guest 957 the game in San Fran so the next question I want to ask you Bonte as someone who’s watched him his entire career is is Brandon auk worth that money as a player should someone feel good about paying Brandon iuk top wide receiver money absolutely absolutely I mean just look at all right look at Devonte Smith and you can I think you see Devonte Smith twice a year you’re the NFC East country with the Philadelphia Eagles course playing the commanders twice a year and the Philadelphia Eagles trouble ball a lot it feel like they really got off ker last season and I similar numbers to Devonte Smith over the last three years and we could all admit that Shanahan is a run first type of Coach they will pound the football they will run it run it run it run it run it and be real selective they’re not going to just come out in four wide receiver sets and throw the ball over the yard so auk has made the most of his opportunities and then when you think about the Run game go look at a bunch of Chris McCaffrey runs from last season those long runs who’s downfield blocking it’s Brenan auk that’s the big that’s the big difference between him and like look cidd Lamb’s gonna get paid and cidd Lamb’s probably the better Rock Runner and I’m sure a lot of people in the league would rather have cidd lamb than Brandon iuk however does CD lamb put his hat in there and get physical does he get in there in the Run game and get physical Brandon iuk plays every single down like it’s his last one and this guy’s got sure hands he’s a great rout Runner he’s got the great Wings span absolutely he’s worth it if Jaylen Wadd is getting the money that he’s getting and Devonte Smith is getting the money that he’s getting then why wouldn’t brenon aayu deserve the money that he wants uh and he wants to be a top 10 wide receiver he wants to be a top 10 playmaker and PID like one I think he’s worth it he’s worth every penny right now if you ask me take one guy dbo Samuel or Brandon auk I’m taking Brennan auk every day of the week and twice on Sunday I think he’s more of a threat at this point in his career um the rock running like I mentioned he could beat press man and there’s a lot of times Craig when I’m at the game and now you is like waving his arms like yo what’s up look at me I’m open hit me I’m I’m separating from these cornerbacks here I’m the one guy who can separate from these cornerbacks and safeties in this offense so um absolutely he’s worth every single sin Craig uh and then I guess the last question Bonte would be the uh the other fella in that uh in that Tik Tok was was Jaden Daniels his of course former teammate at his Arizona State who uh just so happens to be the starting quarterback here in DC we know that they are very very close um obviously nobody knows iuk better from an executive standpoint than Adam Peters who was in San Francisco um as the trade rumors have kicked up is that like is Washington a team that has come up and also what kind of compensation do you think that the Niners are looking for well I think the Niners were looking for some first round picks right they picked a 31st in this P draft and the Rumor was that they were looking for some first round compensation for um Brendan iuk now a lot of receivers here you see AJ Brown I think that that trade in which Tennessee got absolutely hosed in kind of messed up the right receiver market right and and so a lot of these teams now Craig they think that wide receivers grow on trees because of what we’re seeing in college football with the spread system and the spacing that’s now being played in the NFL um basically translating from the college football game to the NFL with all the spread Concepts um so I they’re looking for com but the the team that I heard the most about was the Pittsburgh Steelers and I still hear about the Pittsburgh Steelers we had this guy Andrew philipon on who does radio up there in Pittsburgh and he was saying Pittsburgh is desperate for Brennan auk they love Brennan auk so that’s the only team I haven’t heard much about the commanders although it makes a lot of sense know that Adam Peters is now there he probably was instrumental in drafting Brennon auk Jane Daniels who you mentioned his quarterback at Arizona State it’s a new scene now what would it look like would it be a receiver swap would it be picks would Washington be willing to give away picks knowing that they’re building football team and you need to be build the best team around Jon Daniels right now before he plays out that contract and if what if he blossoms obviously he’s GNA see big-time quarterback money in four or five years so Now’s the Time for Washington to kind of strike with that type of player and and give a player like brenon IU that type of money because you can afford it sure why not but I just don’t see the Niners giving up on brandan IU going into this season like that would be sacriligious that would be that would be devastating for this locker room because the locker room still loves Brandon you can they want them back in town so is Washington come up no but it’s certainly a team that has a flipped my mind because of the connections there with Adam Peters yeah it’s an interesting wide receiver situation in Washington because I think they could stand upgrade the position but they also and iuk would be an upgrade uh you know because I would imagine like maybe San Francisco gets Jan doson back or something like that hearing about doson thinking like why would the Niners do that yeah well because Dawson doesn’t have to be paid for a couple more years and it’s sometimes it’s the math the problem is they’ve already paid McLaren here and how much money do you want to invest into that position so uh but that’s that’s our radio Bonte that’s what we’re yeah between Chase young between the Jordan pool trade and the SL the Chris Paul trade Trent Williams yeah Trent Williams like there’s there’s we’re we’re due for a a a basketball trade at some point oh so big into two existence cig I’m just saying like if you’re the Warriors wouldn’t you want someone like a Denny Avia y wouldn’t you want a Cory kisser I’m just saying I’m just saying uh it’s often
