Woj details how serious the Lakers are with JJ Redick 👀 | SC with SVP

four teams around the NBA have secured a new head coach this off season the Wizards took the interim tag off Brian Keefe Suns hired Mike buen holer the Hornets hire Celtics assistant Charles Lea rush off a title and the Nets went with King’s assistant Jordy Fernandez that leaves the Cavaliers the Lakers and now the Pistons with head coaching vacancies with that in mind we welcome in our friend Adrien wowski and W a coach of the pedigree of Monty Williams and a job like the Lakers seems like maybe there might be interest but I wonder if maybe the timing of this throws a monkey wrench in the whole thing you tell me uh Scott if Monty Williams had been available in the marketplace to the Lakers you know when they started this search even a month ago three or four weeks ago perhaps uh he might meld into this search process Monty Williams was blindsided today uh with his dismissal which came from the owner Tom Gores who just a year ago gave him nearly an $80 million contract recruited him to take the job to move his family including his wife who had cancer his sons who were in high school to Michigan to undertake this rebuild with him I’m told that he is not ready to necessarily just jump right in to another job another process that he wants to coach again uh but I think it’s pretty raw today despite the fact that he walked away with over over $65 million uh in this he wanted to coach a team build a team and and now he’s out yeah and I I think we all believe in man will Coach again but as you point out the timing of this one uh perhaps would would eliminate the uh the possibility of him being considered by the Lakers let’s take let’s take a a little push back here and look at the Lakers because they still need a coach right and to date how we got to where we are uh in terms of who they’ve had interest in this and that to date they’ve only offered the job to one person correct that’s right Scott theyve they’ve only offered the job to Dan Hurley and then the Lakers pivoted back to JJ reck who they kind of just had what Rob pinka had with reic at the combine was kind of a 90 minute get to know you not digging real deep but just talking and then they brought him to La last weekend and he went through the more formal interview process and he is reic has talked with Rob Pena since then I know Pena has talked you know with other another candidate or two you know since reck’s interview this week but what’s really left for the Lakers and JJ reck at this point is for the Lakers to make an offer which they haven’t quite done yet well every NBA job is important but the Lakers is on on a different level right I mean they’re at the very top of the food chain here so I can appreciate their due diligence and what have you but we’re a week away from the NBA draft I imagine that that this this conversation is going to have to ramp up to a point where a formal offer is going to be made if reic is indeed going to be the guy they don’t have much time to wait do they you know yes and no Scott it’s not quite like the NFL where you have to have your coach in place for the draft where you’re going to draft players built on that coach’s system uh Detroit probably won’t have a coach by the draft but it is important it is the Lakers goal and listen they are focused in now on JJ reck JJ reck’s a different higher than Dan Hurley would have been I think JJ reck certainly knows the NBA better than Dan Hurley Dan Hurley knows how to coach a team build out a coaching staff all the things that go into head coaching uh that even at the college level translate and so I think for uh JJ reck and the Lakers what does a reic coaching staff look like all of those are certainly important elements you want to have in place you know if you’re going to bring him in but right now you know JJ reck is at the Forefront of this and again Scott really all that is left for LA to do is to offer the job to to JJ ruic that hasn’t quite happened yet and then all this left for you to do is to tweet it out so we’ll keep uh we’ll keep our eyes on social media look for that W Bob and until then W be well I appreciate your time as always thank you scottt p [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

  1. Man, how is Monty gonna take care of his family now. Must be tough to lose a job and he only has 78.5 million from coaching one season.

  2. JJ is the easiest to pick since Lakers need a coach that Lebron liked, and JJ is an easy yes-man for lebron rather than pick who can really coached

  3. Rich Paul is going to do the impossible and negotiate the first player-to-coach contract. LeBron signs a two year player contract then transitions into the 6 year coaching contract. Reddick is a filler for the next two years and moves under LeCoach and becomes his assistant when the time comes…🤔

  4. “Let’s take a little pushback here and talk about the lakers.” Monty was the pushback, ya slick boy scotty

  5. has any1 seen jj LEklutch rhetoric's career in the association? the pos was a basement scrubby who never affected winnin anywhere he played. he lyke his queen dydnt play defense an he was bigg tyme shot jaccer. i think he averaged brinny savannah ramone shames numbers, soooo that tells us he was bust an now they sayn he's coach material.😂😂😂

  6. What is taking Lakers so long to hire a coach good grief!!!!! It’s so annoying listening to ESPN talk about a team that got swept all the time.

  7. Your team missed the playoffs, but instead of firing your coach after the regular season, you wait until after the finals. 🤔

  8. The Lakers need to fire LeBron and then hire a coach based on coaching ability, not based on how friendly he is with LeBron.

  9. With Monty out of Detroit, get JJ as an assistant, this should be a good tandem.
Suns were giving the Lakers hell the past since the bubble.

  10. Are we really still listening to WOJ on this one? lol. He's already dropped the ball with the last bomb, either because he was misinformed or if you believe rumours cos he was helping a mate milk more money out of UCONN (not my personal belief, but it's out there). Next thing we hear it's someone else nobody has been talking about for the Lakers job lol. Sorry WOJ, no cred on this one, I'm gonna start watching SHAMS's Twitter haha.

  11. Lebron has demolish the best franchise in NBA HISTORY… thank you Lebron 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

  12. The hiring's of Steve Kerr and Steve Nash as head coaches were heavily criticized by the media because they had no coaching experience but Mark Jackson, Doc Rivers, Derek Fisher, Jason Kidd and Isiah Thomas all had zero coaching experience when they got their first head coaching jobs and the media didn't criticize their hiring's. Only white guys get criticized for that.

  13. I see a lot of people critizing, but every coach has to start somewhere. I actually think JJ's basketball IQ could translate to a solid coach.

  14. Lebron has 2 contracts to sign. One is to sign a 3 year extension to retire a Laker and the other contract is to be the next head coach through JJ Redick. Busy Summer for GM, Coach, Player and Podcaster Lebron James.

  15. Lebron team hopping @ss couldn't carry a franchise if his life depended on it but they allow him to run it? SMH Lakers should get Shaq to coach at least he'd have the guts to tell Lebron his trashcan son will no be drafted.
