weekly co-host NBA draft Enthusiast and diard Houston Rockets fan Madison more you can track down on Twitter at madman leaks here’s we continue our ton tons of draft coverage here at lock on rockets and today we’ve got some I guess we’re going we’re going to call these sleeper picks that Madison’s got picked out for us because these are some guys that Madison has teed up that we’re going to talk about on today’s episode that are maybe not quite in the range of where the Rockets are going to be selecting but with so many rumors about what could happen either ahead of the NBA draft or even on draft night if the Rockets do trade down in the draft or maybe they find a way to trade back into the first round while also still keeping their number three overall selection there’s a variety of different ways the Rockets could get their hands on a few of these prospects so Madison’s got three guys teed up that he really wanted to talk about here on the show so uh first name on the list here Madison for us we got Tristan D Silva out of Colorado senior out of Colorado uh Sharpshooter man 39 a. half% from Deep on pretty good it’s a four 4.8 attempts per game so he’s a shooter right out of the gate let’s let’s walk us through why do you like this guy yeah so I love Tristan D Silva cuz like you said he is a a very good Su shooter but also he has uh excellent size for the position he um is a 6 fo8 without shoes but 6’9 6’9 and a half with shoes so this guy has tremendous size he can play uh the four he probably could play a get away with some three and hopefully some small ball five but with that size and that shooting combination and he’s an extremely high IQ player this guy makes all he makes all the very good passing reads he kind of played a little Hub situation in Colorado they could run the offense through him and with that and with his face up game he has a really nice face up game not only can he shoot but he can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket and score he’s just he’s just a very solid player and I think Tristan dilva is the perfect example of when people say this draft is not a bad draft we just don’t know who the stars are yet right and so Tristan D Silva is one of those guys who’s an excellent player with extremely high floor and all three of the guys I’ll talk to today kind of fit that narrative these extremely high floors these guys who fit the modern NBA with positional versatility shooting and some defensive vacuuming now I that’s kind of like the elevator pcture on the the pros with trisan but we want to talk about you know some of the things he’s not so good at so of course he has this incredible size he’s probably going to uh play the four but he didn’t rebound the the ball as well as you would like out of a four but he can play that uh that position and as mobile and light on his feet as he is he still left more to be desired as a Defender right but those things are within his outcomes because he has all the measurements he has the athletic profile to play those positions so um you know what you’re going to get off you’re going to get extremely intelligent offensive player extremely polished shooter a guy who P fits the modern NBA and if he can bring around some of those other skill sets like the defense the rebounding then you’re going to have a highlevel star on your hands you’re going to you’re going to get a very impactful player and that’s what we talk about with these guys with these low floors there’s a very easy path that trishan D Silva is going to be a NBA player impactful player and if those things come around the on the defensive end to sh up hit hit the offensive end then you’re going to see a starter in Tristan D Silva yeah high level rotation player for sure just and you know kind of looking at some of the a couple of the things that I’ve seen as far as just some of the draft profiles floating around on this guy is you know a distinct lack of explosiv right he’s not like you know a crazy Uber athlete which you know at the end of the day unfortunately if you don’t have that like top tier like 99th percentile athleticism it does kind of dampen your ceiling a little bit about what you could potentially turn into as a player we’ve talked about this we talked about this last week when we did uh our pod talking about Dalton connect right seniors come out they a little bit more polished right they’re a little bit more put together as players when you get those upper classmen who kind of already know who they are so I I do like looking at this guy thinking man he could just slot in and this could be a guy that could play some probably NBA minutes like ready day one step into a rotation knows his role able to knock down shots be a good defender on that side of the ball um let’s hit me with some of your cops for him man yeah so these These are the type of guys you’re looking at with TR to civil so uh I got a couple cops for you guys we’ll first start with the lowend and we’ll go with nicolea yovic from um on the Miami Heat now that was a guy who was recently drafted two three years and kind of had a breakout year but had played some really good minutes for the Miami Heat um still a young Player working to get better but he has a similar profile another guy who can do a lot with the ball in his hands 6′ n 6’1 uh guy with these pseudo guard skills but still leaves uh less to be decided on the defensive end but he has the IQ um he has the IQ to be in position on time and because these guys have good size they find their way onto the on onto the basketball court because you know they have the size to actually defend across the across positions so I thought that was a really good comp for him um for median let’s say that offense starts to hit at a higher level we’re looking at a guy like Kyle kosma uh this rangy forward that is uh that is light a lightning right offensively um and can really do a lot of things for you still we like to see a little bit more from Kyle kosma defensively but still is serviceable on the floor he’s not going to get picked on and that is what the size of Tristan dilva offer I’m another guy in that median range is uh Blast from the pass Tony kach guy who could do a lot of stuff put the ball on the floor very versatile uh versatile player and that’s the type of stuff Tristan D Sila can do with that size um and last we’ll get into these high to I got two guys for the highend one of the guys I got I remember from you this is a really good one for him but you suggested this last P for another Pro uh Prospect and you know what I’m talking about hedo talo yes and so hedo played a lot on Ball and so did Tristian do at so did Tristian at um Colorado so he does have some some on ball skills some on ball juice he doesn’t play with a lot of athleticism like hedo and but you don’t need that when you’re smart you have Craft um and you everything looks the same guys can’t use their athleticism so much against you if if you’re not telegraphing your moves um so HDO turoo is another guy and I think he has the playmaking and if that ball handling takes a leap and you know the the shooting is still there we might get a player like he though um lastly Lori marinin uh Lori marinin I I like a lot is a good C for him because it’s you you don’t think that type of outcome will will come for Tristian but I think they were very similar prospects when uh uh coming out of college only Lori was much much younger right but it took Lori a long time for him to get his bearings in the league and he can’t became a journeyman until he got to Utah and everything kind of settled down for him and now you see this off ball threat this guy who can do it all he can play the three and the four he’s much better defensively and all those same question marks we have for Tristan D Silva Lori is now answered them and is is a marquee player in this league so a lot of these mocks that I’m seeing for Tristan D Silva have him like you know some of them late teens early 20s kind of that range more or less is it is it simply just because he’s a senior or is it like what’s the that’s that’s the biggest knock on his game and that’s why we’re not seeing him mocked higher that’s the biggest knock and I and Jackson I’m I’m pretty sure like this is how these mocks are going but I’m pretty sure these guys are going to go earlier than what you’re seeing on these draft boards like I’m pretty sure Tristan D Silva is going to be a lottery pick like the back end of the lottery um and it’s because you know what you’re getting you’re going to get an NBA player and it’s really the crooks of do you do you wna shoot for the stars in the lottery right do you want to take a big swing on one of these other guys who are less polished are going to take a lot of time or do you want to get what you know is be a very good player and develop him on from that and I I I honestly it’s been a kind of philosophy thing I’ve been thinking about about you know really limiting these older guys because they’re older but they’re still very young players with a lot more to give I mean there’s there’s older players that come out and become all stars all the time and so I I don’t want to I don’t want to limit these guys this this could be a very high-end Prospect with a very high floor and we maybe should be thinking about these guys higher than this and I actually have trishan D Sila on my board in the lottery it’s definitely going to be fun to revisit this draft you know four five 10 years from now and think man like we were so down on this draft like when it happened and then potentially reflecting on it be like hey like this was actually like a relatively solid draft it just didn’t have that you know those couple shiny picks right at the top of like the big home run swings the franchise altering talents at the top but it does feel like the more that we talk about different prospects here there’s going to be a lot of long tenur like kind of NBA you know maybe not journeyman is the right word but just guys who have you know successful NBA careers coming out of this draft potentially so it’s definitely going to be a fun one to reflect on but coming up we got another Prospect teed up for you guys marquette’s Tyler klech we’re going to get there in just one moment first today’s episode is continuing on here at lock on Rockets your daily podcast home for everything Houston Rockets basketball where we are focusing on some sleeper picks some potential sleeper picks for the Houston Rockets working a little bit later in the draft although based on what you said in that first segment Madison maybe some of these guys are going to creep and and sneak their way up into that draft lottery uh but another guy who is a little bit lower on on other mock drafts mock boards you know those late teens early 20s kind of picks uh Tyler KCK from Marquette who’s basically he’s just your kind of tried and true like point guard floor General get guys G you know set up in the right spots is is that a decent elevator pitch for him or how would you kind of sell sell him you know sell his talents yeah man you know Tyler cck like you said is kind of your traditional point guard right guy with the that sets everything up ball in his hands right and is a four-year fouryear guy he’s he’s tested he’s a leader right but the thing about kic is kic’s probably the wonkiest craziest film I’ve seen man Tyler Kik just has uh grit like this guy is super small well not super small but he’s a he’s a small undersized guard he’s he’s 6′ one and a quarter no shoes and then wingspan 62 and 3/4 so if you if you thought if y’all are over here like worried about Reed Shepard being small then then Tyler kak is smaller than Reed Shepard so yeah Tyler Tyler KCK is is smaller than Reed Shepard but he doesn’t play small at all I mean this guy is constantly putting pressure on the rim trying to get to the rim um and and make plays for other guys uh score at the basket and he has absolutely no athleticism no like traditional athleticism and this guy is just using change of pace using his strength knocking guys off his spots just to create the smallest Windows like the these are like tiny Windows like and then he just throws it up and it goes in like I have no idea if these if the way he generates or creates shots will translate that is how unorthodox it is it’s it’s a lot of uh a lot of the stuff that Brunson does in the the paint area where it’s just knocking guys off to just get very tiny windows and that’s all this guy needs to convert but what’s even more impressive is Tyler kic is one of the best passing prospects I’ve ever seen this guy has a elite passing Talent Elite this is this is a NBA ready passing Talent this dude sees the floor amazingly like this guy is he can be up there with the top passers in the game right now this guy finds guys and he’s so deadly with his passing that he leverages to get easy buckets I’ve seen several times where guys refuse to rotate over when he beats his man and they just give him a layup because they’re scared he’s gonna make the pass that is how Elite of a passer this guy is yeah no like like that is what that’s what we’re talking about right now that that is the type of the the the way he sees the floor the way he’s able to make every B pass in the uh book and they’re like flashy he can do flashy passes he can make the simple PL he’s a wizard in the pick and roll and when you combine all those things like this is a very very good Prospect man this guy like he that passing is GNA translate um and if he if the if he is able to convert on those Tight Windows the same way he’s done it um in the on the college level now he’ll have more space he’ll be able to move the ball uh more readily and I really this guy’s one of my favorite prospects I want to give him a Lottery lottery grade I’m trying to I’m trying to move him up right now but he’s not quite there in my lottery yet but this guy is an amazing point guard who who sees the floor and he shoots it shot 38.8% from three my biggest issues with K is of course the size which you know he’s a tough Defender I think he I think he competes on that end but there’s just certain things he’s not going to be able to do because of his size right um and secondly I think he’s an excellent three-point shooter but when I watch the film and I don’t have the numbers on this but when I watched the film he made most of his shots off the catch and and when he was dribbling into into uh three-point shots I don’t think he converted at nearly as high high as the same clip but like off The Catch he’s amazing uh three-point shooter but I just I didn’t see it translate that way and he needs to be able to shoot and have that thread off the uh off the drive which he does take him I mean off the the dribble excuse me in order for him to convert in a real way so that’s kind of my elevator pitch on on Tyler kic the the cell is this guy is a a good allaround player with really no real weaknesses right other than athleticism and he has an extreme passing Talent so that kind of VTS him into this you know realm of like basketball Sant IQ and those type of guys I I don’t like to bet against look I mean the the numbers are really impressive across the board right so he averaged 15 points a game mentioned the three-point shooting 38.8% from downtown on just under four attempts per contest so a pretty decent volume there 4.9 rebounds 7.7 assists to only 2.9 turnovers so clearly takes really good care of the basketball constantly getting his team mates involved the the way that you were talking about this guy and a couple of the ways that you were talking about how he creates advantages offensively especially kind of just the I I don’t want to call it Reckless level of play but like the driving ability the physicality you know bumping Defenders off to create these these small Windows especially around the rim I have a comp in my mind so I’m curious uh let’s get to your comps because I’m curious what direction you go here okay so lowan I got Pablo Pion I think Pablo Pon is a really good cop for him if he doesn’t really if none of the other things try at a very high level he’s going to be able to run a second unit he just is he’s going to be able to come out come out get guys set up excuse me make the right play and make open shots that’s just that’s just Baseline what he’s going to be able to do and he’s going to compete so um uh when we get to the median end outcomes the the guy I feel like uh mirrors some of the ways he scores best is Andre Miller with the way Andre Miller is just in control of everything has these just subtle knocks you knocks you off your spot type things to get Buckets and just doesn’t make mistakes I think tylera could play a very similar role and that is a starting level po point guard you know what I mean like that’s that is like he has starting level outcomes for me I think if the I think if you add in The Flash and the the the shooting off the dribble comes through in a real way I think Jason Williams is also another guy that I think it’s a really good uh C for him I think if he he if he really just you know goes to another level with the passing and open space gets out and transition and really runs and ignites offenses I think Jason Williams can be a guy that uh that uh translates for him okay and now we get into the high-ends which I think are very unlikely guys I just want to say these high- ends for these players are very unlikely their sillings aren’t really this high but I think that these things are possible for kic because of the level of passer I think he is right so I so I think that he can enter the realm if he really becomes just an elite shooter off the dribble as well I think St Steve Nash is a possibility man I don’t know if he’ll be MVP level maybe Dallas Mavericks Steve Nash you know what I mean just pseudo Allstar type guy right but if that if his IQ toughness and passing really just ignites offenses and he’s able to shoot off the dribble I think the threat of his passing the way he’s not afraid to get downhill and and really just gets where he needs to go um and is able to leverage his passing out of that I think that is possible for Tyler kic I think he has some sneaky upside up there I don’t know if he gonna be MVP Steve Nash but more like Dallas Mavericks uh Steve Nash okay all right and you know maybe some of that is you know because I really would need to get a firsthand look at like just you know more of the film to see get a feel for him as a passer to be able to like make that connection to it because the moment you start mission is Steve Nash like my my ears perk up a little bit no see that’s why I a real strong c yeah we have to we have to slow slow our breaks man it’s it’s hard to find guys with this level of passing and I really think this guy just has a whole another but he has to be able to shoot very well off the dribble to become Steve Nash and this is this is highly unlikely think like this is this is highly unlikely for him he’s going to be more in this median tier median to low but I think though that window in that path is possible because of the level of passer he is I’m surprised you didn’t go with Kyle Lowry here in any of these coms oh yeah you know Lowry would have been good because that’s the thing is like so you know early Kyle Lowry right before he you know right around the the year that he got promoted and started you know uh you know anchoring things in the starting lineup for the rockets that was the year that his three-point shooting really took off but before that right Kyle Lowry was like this bruising strong undersized point guard right he would Barrel to the basket he use his size his strength to muscle guys off of him right kind of like a like a bowling ball just bouncing guys off of him going towards the basket finishing around the rim that kind of thing and so looking at uh Tyler’s metrics right you know the fact that he’s he weighs about 200 lb like he’s a he’s a stocky guy right so he’s under siiz but he uses that strength he uses that physicality to bump guys off off their spots get to where he wants to on the floor finishing you know in the paint through traffic around the rim all that stuff it was kind of you know and then you couple that with the passing it that’s why I was thinking Kyle Lowry kind of like it sounds like but but a better shooting version of Kyle Lowry that’s the thing that kit can do right now that Kyle couldn’t do out of the gate he had to work on that over time so if you’re talking you know Kyle Lowry’s able to develop a three-point shot but then the only hang up with Tyler kic is like all right he’s got to you know tighten up that handle a little bit and be able to create some separation on the perimeter to be able to open things up you know uh at least as far as you know pull you know creating his own his own perimeter looks I guess is the best way to put it yeah man no Cy Lowry is a much better cop for high man I I really like that I’m I’m mad I didn’t think of that one that’s an excellent cop he I don’t think he’s as you know C’s a bit thick man like you know what I mean he’s really a bowling ball yeah you know I mean like doesn’t have that he not throwing that type of weight around you know what I mean so maybe that’s why it didn’t come come to my come to my mind but uh yeah that really try over here trying to say the ass is not that fat with Tyler Co all right I I think that’s why I missed it but I think the play style is is similar even the way C KY Lowry can shoot off the dribble right like he can shoot off the dribble but he’s like much more was much more deadly as a catch and shoot three-point guy out of the corners like that is the type of stuff I think KY could get could get to so if he just is able to hold up defensively uh in an average way and I think he has the toughness to to to come through I think that guy could be a really good impact player and threaten starter starter uh starter level starter minutes and I just I don’t want to limit these guys because they’re older players and their upsides like these are excellent players and these are some of the guys that I think will emerge as starters in this league Main Stays in this league cuz there are a lot of these type of prospects and that’s why I want to talk to them talk about them today and it really doesn’t we had this conversation the other day but it Bears repeating right it does kind of feel like the way that the NBA landscape is going with different you know payroll repercussions and stuff and the new CBA and everything these types of highlevel upper classmen Who come out as more polished products are going to be really important right like this is the kind of guy that let’s maybe the Rockets don’t get a Tyler coak guy right but this is the type of guy that like a Denver Nuggets team could sorely use right like if the Denver Nuggets could draft this guy and have him on you know four years of cost controlled first round drip draft pick salary like late in the first kind kind of thing and then that’s you know a position that they can coach up you know these you know it’s not like he needs a ton of development to be ready for NBA minutes right that’s the kind of guy that a contending team would want to be able to bring into the fold probably right away because he probably could step in and play some serviceable minutes right out of the gate without having to you know come up with this long tenur developmental program like you would for some of these young you know underclassmen or guys who are coming out of places like the the G League ignite or overseas that kind of thing so at least it’s worth noting there and again maybe the Rockets aren’t in this boat you know quite this year but that’s that’s where some of the value is for some of these other players that you’ll find a little bit later in the draft but we’ve got one more name that we want to talk about here coming up in just one moment Devin Carter out of Providence we’re going to get there in just one moment first today’s episode is brought to you by prize picks prize picks is America’s app and use code locked on NBA for a first deposit match up to $100 prize picks pick more pick less it’s that easy and final segment here at locked on Rockets your daily podcast home for everything Houston Rockets basketball time for our final Prospect here on today’s show and that is Devin Carter out of Providence and uh Madison I’ll let you take it away man give us your elevator pitch for Devin Carter cuz this is a guy that I’ve SE I’ve seen him all over the place on draft boards like that could be said for a lot of these different prospects because there’s been so much volatility variance whatever you want to call it you know for this year’s draft again we’ve talked about it being an eye of the beholder draft but like he’s all the way up at seven on like the ringer mock draft guide like for for Kevin oconor I’ve seen him all the way down like the late lottery for other mock drafts it’s it’s it’s all over the place with dein Carter yeah man this is a guy who’s just uh a senior his dad is Anthony Carter so uh uh has you know he’s been around the league he’s a professional um and this this dude is a 62 63 um great athlete uh great combo guard and this guy he really did everything for Providence this year and I’m this dude is the epitome of a dog plays defense blocks shots rebounds he averaged at 62 at 62 63 he averaged 8.7 rebounds a game like that’s ridiculous for a guard to to average 8.7 rebounds a game this dude makes the all the the correct reads he created shots for Providence this year and the overall sell for this guy is he is a absolute ball of energy all all the time going 100% hard and he’s doing it defensively he’s doing it offensively he really carries the team and so every year I feel like in the draft there’s a guy that goes right in the outside the lottery or in the teens um or or like 14 that is just going to you know it’s going to be a starter level player in this league like he just he just doesn’t have the the high-end outcomes to go in the high Lottery but you know this guy is going to be an excellent role player I feel like Trey Murphy was that guy in um in his draft right this is that guy in this draft it’s Devin Carter and because we don’t have that those highend out outcomes in this draft Devin Carter is going to go on the lottery this year it’s he is I hear I hear from other other guys that are you know well connected that Devon Carter is killing workouts he’s making all his shots this dude is he’s the type of guy who gets who gets underneath guys plays excellent defense and so this there’s this is this defensive combo guard his his role in the league will probably be more uh defensive Wing support Wing right that can do a little bit of everything but this dude was a shot Creator in college like he he created shots he took a lot of tough shots and he took a lot of tough threes and still shot 37.7% from three you know what I mean like and I’m talking about step backs I’m talking about the whole array of things this guy’s highlight reel is is electric like I I just implore you guys guys to just go watch some highlights on Devon Carter and you’ll see what we’re talking about but the highlights don’t show how good this guy is on defense excellent Defender tough Defender strong Defender and a great athlete he got a lot of dunks on the year he has some windmills like this guy’s a really good athlete he could do it all and I think he tested as one of the best athletes in in in the draft this year well what’s really crazy right is you you look at him and you’re like okay great another undersized combo guard at at you know 62 and 62 and a quarter 6-2 in some change uh with no sneakers on but then his wingspan stands out that’s the like cuz he’s got a 68 and 3/4 wingspan so that more than makes up for his you know under you know his undersized height metrics because you know looking across the board I I’m I’m struggling to see why anybody would have Rob Dillingham ahead of Devin Carter as a prospect especially if Carter is you know has a much bigger Wings band right is a much better you know more impactful defensive piece as well as still being able to do a lot maybe not quite everything on the same tier offensively as Rob dilling but like you know one notch below Rob and then a much much better overall Defender right so just a better two-way presence you know in a vacuum than than Rob Dillingham right or am I am I crazy here so the thing is it’s all about projectability and so projecting offense forward I think Rob uh has you know more ball handling more shot creation skills that translate forward but that doesn’t mean that you know Devon Carter’s offense won’t translate in that way now what he had have the opportunity that you give a rob you give Rob the the keys and say hey go make a bunch of mistakes no a contender’s going to want Devon to come in and play right away you know what I mean and and and play a specific role because they know he can match that role now will the shot creation um translate at that level I think that’s a tall task to ask of of Devin Carter but this guy is he’s going to be a starter level player he’s going to be an impact player he’s going to be in a you know he could he’s going to be able to play in a championship ship rotation like that that is how solid of a player this guy is that is that is how much how good the Intel is on on this guy and so just to give you guys some some some idea of some players that are that are going to be similar to him and that you can Envision his game translating over like I I know we talked about a lot about the shot creation but when you get to the NBA your shot creation doesn’t translate immediately so your your role is going to scale down and so some of the guys you’re looking at is deline wri like so Delon Wright is a low-end outcome from this guy and I think that’s unlikely he’s going to be better than dine but that’s just if things don’t translate very well this guy is still G to be a serviceable good NBA player another low-end outcome is Patrick Beverly like that that is the type of guy I think that you know you could see out of him he could be a Patrick Beverly type of guy Jose Alvarado is another guy uh on that trajectory right and that’s why I think this guy also should be a trade down candidate those pesky nuisance defend and then you know high energy High motor 247 exactly blocking blocking a shot is you know but and then we’ll hit the open shot when you need it we’ll be able to attack a close out and these are the low-end guys right these These are the lowend right so when we get to median we’re looking at guys like Josh Hart right DeAnthony Melton right uh which DeAnthony Melton probably could tween on that right but starter starter level guys on teams and a one that I know a lot of rockets fans have been after for a long time and I think it’s an excellent C for him is Alex Caruso like that is the type of doit all Wing he’s gonna be like I think that’s a really likely outcome but just like with the ultimate toughness like the you know making all the plays is just going to be an excellent support player so those are the type of guys that teams are expecting to get out of Devin Carter and we’re pretty sure they’re gonna get it like you know what I mean like I like teams are very confident that this guy’s going to be that level of player right now for highend outcomes there wasn’t a lot of high-end outcomes that were very good you know uh to to to take but if Devin Carter became a star right if he translated some of the offense that he does some of the shot the the tough shot making the the the tough drives and acrobatic finishes at The Rim you know you leveraging his a athleticism at around 63 64 you look at and you know playing defense as well you be talking about a a guy that gave you shades of Dwayne Wade right but not Dwayne Wade guys because Dwayne Wade is like a Hall of Famer and that’s why this these high-end things is hard for these guys that’s why they fall down the list because we know this guy isn’t going to be Dwayne Wade he’s he’s taking like that means he’s taking outlier you know what I mean but that is the type of you can see you can see shades of right like okay dwade you know was was really good at this one element right like the the the point of attack defense things things like that right okay yes yeah so so so that’s what I’m saying he’s not Dwayne Wade but this these are like the the way Dwayne Wade just defended at such a high level got Steals and you know got to the basket was able to make plays for other guys he did a lot of that stuff at Providence but he is not the same level of Creator or even athlete or even has the SI as big a size as Dwayne so you know he he probably won’t get there but that is probably what his game would mirror like but just a lower level Poor Man’s Dwayne way right right so another guy is like Joe Dumars a more defensive oriented and focused type of guy with some offensive punch you might even think more Drew holiday without not being as strong right so these guys that impact the game as such a high level um you you can see them still having such a high impact on the game but yeah he the offense he was such a great Creator I think at the college level but though the way he creates buckets I don’t think will just just will be able to translate to the NBA um a lot of tough shot making a lot of a lot of that type of stuff and that it’s hard to make a living doing that at the next level you know it’s it’s crazy the way that you’re describing this guy especially with what we just saw took place in the NBA finals and everything right players like that guys that can impact the game in such a variety of ways you know and you know high levels kind of across the board right there there really doesn’t seem to be I guess like a clear-cut weakness in his game almost and he’s going to be a guy that you’re able to really kind of into whatever kind of scheme can handle the ball a little bit can can just do his role as a Defender spot up offensively still you know attack off the catch like it really does seem like he’s a good foundational kind of catch all kind of player and then just envisioning how he’s able to build up some of those skills if he becomes you know extremely Elite at any one of those things you know at the NBA level that is seeing how seeing how it all translates how it all comes together like he’s going to have a really good long career and and projects to be probably a future like NBA level starter you know somewhere down the line if not right away um then at least some point down further down in his career a lot of the you know when we talk about some of these defensive guards too man I know that I know that emok is just itching you know chomping at the bit to get his hands on some of these defensive guards guys who can you know come in and play the way that he wants to defensively um where what’s the highest you could see this guy going in the draft uh the highest I could see him going so I know the Spurs I well I don’t know I I’ve heard uh through draft out L and draft pods that the Spurs really like Devin Carter I think he’s going to the highest I think he can go is probably to Charlotte I think Charlotte is what seven in the draft I think that’s probably the highest he’ll go I don’t think the Spurs would take him with that Charlotte is Charlotte is six San Antonio’s got four and eight so you don’t think you don’t think the Spurs would hit him at hit him at eight sorry I’m sorry I hit him at four because I’m guessing there’s probably somebody and then we also know there’s there’s rumors about the Spurs trying to package 4 and eight to move up you know in the draft to get to get their hands on Rees saet so there’s all that um okay so maybe not all the way up at four but and like I said this is this is a eye of the beholder draft there’s it’s going to be a team that just falls in love with this guy like who who’s going to say I need him on my team and I wouldn’t be surprised if that team is in the lottery you know what I mean and so uh the first team that falls in love with him and I’m sure he’s you know tearing up these workouts we hear you know what I mean so I think this guy is going to go really high I think the high I think I think the highest he could go is probably I think Charlotte would consider him but opt for more upside play but I think uh the Spurs would definitely seriously consider him a I can also see a team like I could see like the Thunder or the kings taking him at like 12 or 13 right a guy that can come in and you know be serviceable probably right right away right out of the gate um you know in a limited role obviously not somebody that you would he’s he’s not the type of prospect like we talked about already with Rob Dillingham right where Rob’s going to go to probably a bad team team you give him the keys and let him average you know however much you know however many points he’s going to score playing 30 plus minutes a night with you know the downsides to his game all that stuff just let him get the warts you know out of the way here in year one that’s not going to be um that’s oh my God why am I blanking on his name all of a sudden out of nowhere thank you so much I was like I was like I’m blanking we were just talking about this guy for 10 straight minutes Devon Carter my goodness that’s not going to be Devon Carter at least not right out of the gate um no you can expect Devin Carter though to be a very high level player a guy challenging starters Mage like you can expect Josh Hart outcomes it kind of feels like that’s the it kind of feels like that’s the case with a lot of these a lot of these upper classman guys feel like they’re going to have at a very minimum like high floors as NBA players because to be a three or a four-year you know col Collegiate athlete right you’ve got to show something if you’re going to be there all four years right you don’t just you don’t just get a walk in the park and then make it four years and then suddenly you know declare for the draft and like you’re being discussed as a first round pick no there’s a reason that we’re talking about all these guys because I think it says something right you you stay at your program for four years you stay playing competitive Collegiate basketball whatever but then it also really does help you refine your game right you come in as a more finished product and because of that you’re able to translate a little bit quicker to the NBA game now that might have an adverse side effect again like some of these guys you know hitting their draft SC draft stock negatively where you’re not looking at them like oh there’s not this High upside swing because he’s a little bit older he’s coming in at 22 23 years old whatever and at the end of the day I do think that a lot of these guys are still going to have really really productive NBA careers even if you don’t see like the crazy Star level upside with some of them just talking about the three guys that we talked about in our show today like they it all feels like they’re going to have really strong NBA careers each and every one of them just kind of depends on where they ultimately land in the draft and maybe whether the Rockets can either uh you know dabble a little bit and get back in to draft one these guys later in the first round or potentially just trade out of that number three overall spot completely and trade down in the draft maybe something like the hypothetical with uh with the Portland Trail wers where they could walk away with seven and 14 potentially that would be a fun one where they could get their hands on one of these guys potentially or two of them quite possibly but we want to know from you guys which of these prospects is most enticing to you which of these names we talked about would you 1. Imagine it is 2027 and the Rockets finally make the NBA finals. Does anyone believe that Tyler Kolek is one of the players that gets us to the promised land?

  2. I watched Lowry at Villanova and Kolek at Marquette. They are not a comp at all. Two totally different players in college and nothing to even project Kolek to. They aren’t the same

  3. Devin Carter is already a top ten draft talent. Should be a top 5 pick in this weak draft. He is the one the Rockets should make moves for.

  4. Good pod guys. if the Rockets draft any of these guys before the 2nd round I WOULD BE HOTTER THAN FISH GREASE. any trade down that doesn't get us a Knecht or Cody Williams type player doesn't get proper value for our pick. I would rather trade out of this draft all together for future 1st rounders. if we are going to draft and develope a player our time and resources are better spent on someone inside the top ten and none of these guys are worthy of that pick.
Hey Jackson is there any info on who the Rockets are working out before the draft?
