Obi doesn’t make sense, but….

Here is a nice outline of how things stand with this roster and although we can certainly make Toppin an offer, it doesn't really make sense. Beyond the simple fact we have Jarace Walker ready to step into a bigger role, next season we are probably looking at paying Myles Turner, Andrew Nembhard, + TJ McConnell who I would look at as more important than Toppin to have over the next 2-3 years at least. Isaiah Jackson might factor in as well, but unsure to what level.

In saying all of that, I want him back in Blue and Gold, I'm just a bit more understanding if it doesn't happen.

  1. Will it come down to him taking a pay cut to play for a potential contender ?

Sign and trade later. We’ve got his rights, and Bruce Brown last year proved how valuable tradeable contracts can be worth.

i just really hope Obi stays in the 7-11 mil range, that’s fair value imo and a very tradeable contract if needed. that contract + Jarace = Mikal, for example. but Obi is a great bench piece who slots in well with TJ and the bench gang. hope he can stay on a friendly deal

If they bring him back at about the MLE (let’s say 13M) they can still stay under the tax next year. The following year would be a different story with new contracts for Turner/Nembhard/TJM but they could always trade Toppin at that point (or, ya know, just pay the damn tax)

Losing obi will suck. He single handedly came off the bench and scored 10 pts when our offense was stalling multiple times. He for sure won us games with his play off the bench.

I would love to see him back – what a great microwave guy
