Not how economics works. There’s still the same amount of cap space to be spent in free agency (the Kings were over the cap). There is one less free agent that teams covet.
For example, if Orlando strikes out with their top options (Monk, PG, Klay), then the can just throw their cap space at Trent in a Bruce Brown-esque 1+1 deal.

Unless Gary improves dramatically in one other area (eg rebounds, assists, defence, scoring consistency), then we are not going to win if he’s signed as a starter. Either he really improves in one of those or he needs to come off the bench because we need a better starting SG.
