Brian Windhorst on the Caruso-Giddey trade: ‘This is a BIG ONE for the Thunder’ | SC with SVP

the Oklahoma City Thunder get Caruso in exchange for Giddy and everyone on the internet wanted to know wait straight up prey’s done it again no picks involved yeah that your head shake is that reaction isn’t it man I so many teams wanted Alex Caruso and that this is the trade that the Bulls did was surprising um they did need a franchise point guard and I actually think Josh giddy has a chance to put up big numbers in Chicago the question will be whether they give him a bunch of money now he’s eligible for an extension Sam prey has a long history of trading players that he doesn’t want to extend before it becomes an issue all the way back to a guy you may have heard of named James Harden and I think after this playoffs where you saw um you know Mark dagal have to pull Josh giddy off the floor in some high leverage situations you could kind of see if there was an option for him that they would try to move him and they smashed one out of the park here because Alex Caruso is an all defensive player who joins arguably the best perimeter defensive team in the league when you look at Lou dor when you look at jayen Williams when you look at Shay guildas Alexander oh my God what a a team that they’re building basically they are everything defensively the Lakers need when you compare those two things it’s ironic because the Lakers let Caruso go of course and you know ultimately they’ve got to get Caruso signed to an extension at some point he’s in the last year of his contract um whereas the giddy is under control for the Bulls but I don’t doubt that they can do it and the big thing here is this out of all the contenders Scott no team is more upwardly mobile really than the than the Thunder because they still have $30 million in salary cap space and all of those draft picks I realize that the 76ers have that space but they don’t have the package of picks or the the the two the two deep that they’ve got across the team and to do this deal get a major player who’s very you know effective in a Championship uh contending team a two-way wing and not touch your salary cap space and not touch your draft picks man that’s a big one I agree and and uh NBA Twitter rarely agrees on anything but everyone seem to have the big eye emojis and say wow this is a huge huge get for the Thunder Brian wior as always I appreciate your time didn’t know the other night we’d be talking again so soon I appreciate you making time I [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] is

  1. Caruso Is a "Thunder Guy." He loves Coach Daigneault from his time with the OKC Blue. His shooting will get better working with Chip Engelland. Thunder now have 2 of the top 4 season steals leaders in the NBA AND Lou Dort AND Chet on the Block! The Thunder D is going to be lights out. Turn up the A.C.!

  2. Obviously Giddey was expendable for OKC, and the Bulls need to get younger. Now the Bulls need to trade LaVine and Vucevic for young players and/or picks. (Keep DeMar so that the young guys have one respected vet in the locker room who can show them by example the things you need to do and habits you need to develop to have a 15-year NBA career.)

  3. This is a fleece. Caruso is a great defender and gave you 10 a night. Giddy was getting pulled because of his defensive liability and gave you 12 a night. If you cant see the clear difference in value you have low basketball IQ for sure

  4. As much as you want to hate Jerey Krause as the Bulls Dynasty he built in the 80s-90s and then broke it up, you can appreciate he still did way better then this incompetent management ever does since then. Smh

  5. The Bulls have got to be the stupidest franchise I can think of the past several years. Its between them and the Nets for me. Like… why TF would you do a one for one swap that sends away Caruso for Giddey???!!! There are some trades that do nothing other than help out the other team and harm yourself.

  6. Thunders problem wasn’t defense, it was scoring and having a legitimate second option. Caruso makes
Their defense even more elite, but not much on the scoring. Don’t expect Caruso to put up 20 a night in the West. Which is what OKC needs.

  7. Finally a ESPN report without some ditzy broad babbling her big fat no nothing mouth. Get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich.

  8. The thunder are so dumb. They had a guy who was a rondo like pg who could push the pace and could pass very good and the thunder used him like a spot up shooter. Then they tried to act like he was not good😂. Thats like telling Westbrook to beca spot up corner shooter.

  9. I’m actually surprised bulls didn’t have to give up picks for Giddy, he only 21 with so much upside. I’m not a bulls fan but I would be happy with this. U trading a 30 year old player for 21 year old. And alex has already hit his ceiling. Sure u lose defense but at this point, u ain’t no contender, u can develop this guy at only 21 with so much potential. Sure he fell out of rotation in playoffs but seems like a lot of people forgot what he did before that. He can learn. For Thunder it’s fits for them now since they are now in playoff contention spot and trying to make a name for themselves once again. But it might end up being something they regret again just like what happen with James harden.

If lonzo returns as well, u still have defense in him. As well as another playmaker.

  10. Giddy’s game is so ugly!
I’m not sure what the Bulls are thinking without a little bit of insurance aka getting a draft pick too

  11. It's ESPN always find a way to mention the Lakers.. They do that HAWK TUAH on that Lakers

  12. What are the bulls thinking? Especially after Giddy’s off court issues and benching in the playoffs. It’s like the bulls front office hasn’t paid attention since December.

  13. good trade, tho i would have like to have seen them throw in another bench player and some picks and go for mikal bridges. SGA, Bridges, Dourt, JDub and Chet would prob be the best five in the leauge, no weak links on d and on offense, all can shoot as well. Then maybe sign an andre drummond or some other big body for 15-20 mpg for rebounds

  14. I hate hate hate that Jeanie Buss and the Lakers are so poor. We should've never let Caruso go. it is time for the Buss family to sell the team to somebody who actually has money. It is so awful to be stuck in this position where the team is the only asset they possess.

  15. Loved AC, but the bulls just got a young promising guy in Giddy, AC is a great defender, but we still have a young good defender in Ayo, AC is a better defender, but AC has history of nagging injuries, loved if hes stayed in Chicago, but im happy for him going to a contending team, whatever happens, atleast for myself, till the day i die, will always be a Bulls fan

  16. Can't understand why Caruso is valued so highly. Or how Giddey's stock took such a plunge. I'll say it. I think this is a better trade for Chicago than it is for the Thunder. Buying low, selling high.

  17. even the bulls have no hope that lonzo is coming back. dude is basically retired at this point
