Rumor: Mavs Interested in Bronny James, How Would Lebron James Fit with the Mavs? | ONE MORE THING

one more thing should the Mavs draft bronny James apparently there’s some familial ties to bronnie in the NBA and also bronnie on the Mavs we’ll talk about that in more on today’s like on let’s go I’m here because uh I have to be is going to get a seat at the table that’s it it’s the machine don’t let take away you can later you’re young I wait wait one more thing yeah off seon mode baby you’re still locked into the Dallas Mavericks my name is Nick angad media member and your best friend covering the Dallas Mavericks with the lock on podcast Network your team every day today’s episode is brought to you by FanDuel make every moment more right now new customers get $200 in bonus Bets with any winning $5 bet that’s $200 in bonus Bets with any winning $5 bet visit fanduel.com locked on to get started today bronny James [Music] what a way to get into the off season soon as the off season starts the very next day there’s a rumor that comes out about bronnie James and the Mavericks and uh this is the only way to do it and the guy that I wanted to do it with Kevin gray Kevin gray Sports and the Mavs PR and post game on the radio the eagle what you got for me Kevin gray I need that recovery beer that luuka was talking about because I feel like we ju we literally just ended the finals I know Nuka can you pass with the recovery beer that Michael Finley took from you uh and and able to pass it on because my goodness we are here less than a week from I guess a week from the NBA draft and uh yeah this whole bronnie thing I guess is popping off thanks to Jonathan gavone of ESPN shout out to him I guess oh we’ll talk about bronnie James we’ll talk about him as a prospect and we’ll talk about him uh should the Mavericks go after him we’ll do that this will be sort of our our pseudo like draft profile I guess of of him maybe we’ll do one a little later but we’ll talk about that we’ll talk about obviously the connection with with LeBron and and all that and what that means they a package deal we’ll get into all that but Kevin let’s start here Jonathan gavone he’s formerly known as Draft Express still known as Draft Express on Twitter works for ESPN very plugged in guy in the NBA and draft circuits and all that kind of stuff tweets You Know Rich Paul confirms the bronny James has worked out for just two NBA teams the Phoenix Suns and the LA Lakers says that is by Design This has always been the strategy of my clients throughout the years according to Rich Paul the agent for LeBron and now bronny James and all that by the way represent your dad and yourself represented by the same guy I know that there’s going to be a million parallels between bronnie and LeBron James but that’s kind of interesting yeah just keep the family I guess Rich Paul well they keeping it all rich Paul also says in addition to the Lakers and Suns there are three other teams showing interest in Brony James Minnesota the Timberwolves with the 37th pick and he says but I don’t know who their owner will be Toronto at 31 and he says Messi loves Brony MSI uiri the the GM the president basketball operations for the Raptors and then the last one the Dallas Mavericks at 50 8 he says Nico Harrison is like an uncle to Brony so Kevin gray Uncle Rico Uncle Nico hanging out there with with Ronnie James uh the connection we’ve seen this before where Nico had a great connection with Kyrie Irving has known him since high school brought him in and came in is this Nico Harrison like pulling out the stops and a guy that that came out and he’s was going to be known for relationships like this is we should expect some stuff like this to keep happening yeah and I think honestly that’s the larger discussion and more fascinating point for me is the idea that you know Nico Harrison grants you kind of this larger seat at the table if you will because of how deep his connections are you know in the league and regardless of how you may feel about bronny as a player and as a prospect and his ties obviously to his famous father in LeBron James the idea being that Nico Harrison has that kind of clout within the league to be able to have you in these discussions and this is something that I think for Mavericks fans they should get used to over the next several years especially now that you have shown the ability to make it to the finals and now have a window here of opportunity that I think other players around the league will feel like well maybe this is a destination that I can go to to maybe help this team eventually get over the top but I think that to me is the the larger uh more interesting point of all of this is that Nico Harrison and his connection to LeBron and his son will grant you this kind of conversation and seat at the table in some ways Dallas will get Dallas is going to get a what Dallas is going to get a seat at the table that’s right that’s right that’s right they they are and so let’s talk let’s let’s say what this is so the maps have shown interest in bronny James and niik Harrison’s like an uncle to bronny James so there is like a conect there is a connection there apparently the map has shown interest Ronnie likes Nico or do you like all your uncles I guess maybe we should we should dive into this little further like what does it mean an uncle figure Nik an Nik is but there’s a connection there and so what does this mean now well the Mavericks have the 58th pick so a lot of people are saying well he’s there’s no way he’s going to make it to 58 if the Suns and the Lakers are interested in him the other teams that in the 30s are the Mavs also have four second round picks like four future second round picks that they can use to get in if they wanted to get in early in the second round or the end of the first round so I’m not going I’m not putting anything past what Nico Harrison can do we saw him go get Jaden Hardy and with a 37th pick for two future first round picks we’ve seen him trade for draft picks before so I wouldn’t just brush this off as oh this won’t ever happen it don’t it could happen it could absolutely happen but do the maps want it to happen yeah and I’m I’m curious like would you move use those assets to move up for look if you look at Bron as a prospect you know he’s an inconsistent three-point shooter but he’s an athletic Defender he’s got kind of the bodybuild if you will of an Eric Gordon or an OJ mayo if you remember obviously an OJ May who’s was a really good scorer in the league before eventually you know not necessarily finishing but you know a guy like Dion waiters as well like he gives you that kind of body profile type in terms of a player who can defend and can shoot a little bit he’s got really good basketball IQ and can fit defensively into schemes that will allow him to accentuate you know some of those strengths that he has so is he worth utilizing future Capital to move up to go and get him where you feel like if you could utilize some of that for other more established players you can make me you can make that happen versus trying to get you know bronny James in that particular case I guess that’s a decision that obviously n Harris in his front office would have to make but I I personally wouldn’t do that based off of what he is as a prospect and what we know about him at this point here’s the thing about bronny James to the Mavericks he’s a fine Prospect to take a flyer on like it’s okay you want to take a you want to take a flyer on him try it know early second round pick maybe even a late first like try it maybe he can maybe he’ll he’ll grow a little bit maybe he’ll turn up turn out to be a great NBA player like you said same kind of body type as a Davon Mitchell a Patrick Beverly you know a guy like that sure he he could blossom into that the real the real reason you go after Brony James if you’re the Mavericks is LeBron James LeBron James LeBron James LeBron James LeBron James the the combination of two we we’ve known this for for a while LeBron has said it with his own mouth with his own words and LeBron James never lies that he wants to play with his he wants to play with his son and if you want that connection there’s also the connection of Kyrie Irving KY LeBron has been very vocal about the fact that he wants to play with Kyrie again there’s all the rumors over the the offseason about Kyrie going to join LeBron in LA but actually Kyrie was recruiting LeBron to come back to Dallas and so now there’s that connection too what would you think about LeBron james’ favorite player LCA donic L if you could if you could get a if you could get a bron with a you know somehow you you trade for a second round pick or something like know a higher second round pick and you you grab him or even a late first or whatever to would you do that would you go through all that to be able to to get LeBron James and bring him on the map oh man I guess that depends on whether or not you’re able to create the requisite room to get in which okay let’s be frank here the Mavericks and what they have from an asset standpoint and their you know salary cap situation it would be extremely difficult they would basically have to gut their roster to go and get LeBron James to bring him in on the kind of money that he’s going to get from you know the Los Angeles Lakers but is it worth the idea of putting yourself in the conversation to get LeBron James that’s a calculus that I think if here’s the other part that makes me think about you know why that may be something that the Mavericks consider here is you built a structure in an organization and a culture that could withstand the idea of having Kyrie Irving on your roster that same organizational structure and culture and however you may feel about it I believe could withstand the idea of dealing with the circus that comes with bronny James and the idea that there is a potential of LeBron James coming to it as well that it would not infiltrate to this locker room to distract them for what ultimately they’ve been able to achieve and if you feel confident in that which I do as well then you can trust this team to make certain decisions that if it went down that road that they would be able to handle that that’s where a lot of my confidence would draw from if they were to able to go down this road with bronnie in like in trying to potentially lure LeBron James to Dallas in some way but that’s the reason you go after Brony is you if you’re the Mavericks like yeah Bron is a flyer himself but you want to get in if you want to do the ultimate get in with the you know get in with the older brother get in with the dad move it is to to you know to draft bronnie to eventually maybe it’s this year maybe he becomes you know LeBron’s gonna be a free agent if he picks up his player option it’ll be a free agent next offseason so maybe it’s that year he ends up coming over Mavericks maybe it doesn’t have to happen next year necessarily but coming up if it did happen next year what would that look like how would the Mavericks pull that off and then we’ll talk a little bit more about bronnie James himself as a prospect talk about that more coming up you don’t believe you shouldn’t be here today’s episode is brought to you by eBay Motors passion Drive patience it’s the winning formul the Mavs were three wins episode of lock on Ms because you know when news happens you do the bonus episode and you bring out the bring out the one more thing music and you do all that and we’re talking about LeBron we’re talking about bronnie James the son of LeBron jam and I think that’s the reason why you go after bronny James is that you think that there can be something down the road maybe it’s next year maybe it’s not but for LeBron James to join the Mavericks let’s just go Pie in the Sky it happens they they bring they somehow bring in LeBron what what what would have to happen is he’s making $51 million next year you would have to trade away if you’re the Dallas Mavericks so much to try and make this happen they would turn into the Phoenix Suns exactly and I don’t think you can do it just just because of that if you can wait till next year and then do it then bring in LeBron or if LeBron turns down the player option and takes less somehow miraculously I don’t expect him to do that he’s in the money acquisition era of his of his of his his Journey the LeBron get money journey and he wants to eventually own a team and so he’s got to get in as much money as he can $51 million is hard to turn down if you wanted to turn that into the mid-level exception or something dumb like that uh Tim Hardaway PJ Washington Daniel Gafford that makes that gets you to like 45 like 43 put Josh Green in there that gets you there that’s your like your like whole rotation right there basically you’re giving up to try and make that happen yeah like I said you’re basically gutting your roster at that point to have a lineup that consists of LeBron James LCA donic and Kyrie Irving shout out Dy yeah that’s saying yeah Derrick Lively too but you know that could that get you back to the NBA finals I mean probably but at the same time what does your team look like you know for the rest of you know the next two or three years down the road from from there like it’s definitely a p the sky in the idea but at the same time it is fun to think about the concept of LeBron Luca and Kyrie all playing together uh while bronnie you know would probably have to be your sixth man at the point coming up he’s hanging out he’s hanging out in Frisco Kevin let’s be real he’s you might need him at that point if you’re gonna have you don’t have enough roster SP that’s I’m saying you might need him at that point to be a six or seven man coming off the bench uh to fill out your roster Bu The Buddy comedy of Hardy and bronny at the end of the bench would just be hey yo that would hilarious is that’ be great Janee Hardy be and the Elder Statesman of that group based off of the roster come on man number the basketball fit though what the Mavericks if anything got exposed in the finals they need another Creator they need one more guy to create offense to make things easier for Luca and Kyrie to initiate offense and that player can’t be a defensive liability either it has to be like kind of a plus LeBron is not the all defense player that he used to be right I mean we’re not let’s not we’re not trying to make him be that but he could be another Creator and a Luca Kyrie LeBron combo is is breaking my brain in a way but if you’ll have two of them on the court at all times and that makes a ton of sense but the the three of them together would be a tough thing for Jason kid to figure out and by the way Jason kid another positive for this because LeBron James Wanted Jason kid to be the coach of the Lakers even before they went and got Frank vogle yeah I think all of it from a a basketball standpoint the amount of IQ between the three of them would just be incredible and I think they would obviously give opposing teams hell on both ends of the floor in a lot of ways more so uh in terms of the offensive end on what they could do but yeah I think from a cultural standpoint yeah Jason kid would be just fine managing all of this to be able to handle LeBron Kyrie and LeBron James because you got in essence three grown-ups in the room well maybe two and a half anyway however you want to slice that up you can figure that out for yourself but the idea being yeah they would be just fine together that that part we won’t necessarily be concerned about is how do you feel out the rest of it based off of what’s behind them to be able to put together a a good enough roster to handle all this yeah I don’t think they could I don’t think they they could do it they look exactly like the Phoenix Suns and is is Luka Kyrie and LeBron does that solve enough an does that solve enough things and fix enough problems is Luca Kyrie LeBron Lively and then who else could they still have they would still have like you could keep exom exm you could you could keep one of probably Tim PJ Gafford Josh Green Maxi you take a guess on which one which one the Lakers would be like yeah you can keep that one oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Tim you can stay in Dallas you you can stay well I mean he does have an expiring contract and they could you know so maybe they’re for that you know I was just thinking who’s the worst player on that that list like it would just it would just be very difficult to try and try and put a roster together but if they could keep PJ somehow like let’s say they they figured out a way to do it that’s a wild Rost that’s a starting lineup it would be an incredibly Wild roster to have yeah exactly trying to deal with Minnesota and Denver and everyone else I don’t think it makes any sense for LeBron for LeBron James to come in now if it’s next year and let’s say he does decide all right I really just want to play with my son he’s on the he’s on the Mavs because he got drafted there and he’s he’s doing great like he’s he’s working his way Jason kid keeps saying great things about him in the media you know we’re bringing him along slowly and he’s doing the right things he’ll have a roster spot next year you know something like that and then LeBron come like Lebron’s contract is up with the Lakers and then he joins the Mavericks I think it makes more sense then if you want to do that and try and figure out something out at that point than if they try and force something now and just honestly just become the Phoenix Suns like I they can’t I don’t think they can do that no I don’t think they can do that either and honestly it wouldn’t fit in a lot of ways the timeline that you’re trying to build because I mean even with all of this LeBron excuse me Luca dones is 25 years old Kyrie Irving’s already 32 so we’re talking about potential another year that you’re adding on to that as part of a three-year deal that you know Kyrie’s already on going into the second year of that deal going into the next season so then you have to start thinking about potential extension with Kyrie Irving already so on top of the fact that Luc is going to sign what’s going to be a record you know once we get there but what is projected to be what a fiveyear 367 million doll deal at the end of 20 you know in the summer of 2025 so by then we’ll have gambling in Texas and they’ll be able to they’ll be able to pay oh wow look at you look at Las Vegas Sands will be able to pay for it by then that’s right so again you got to think about some of the the financial ramifications of not only Luca’s extension but also we got to start having a conversation going into this upcoming year about a potential Kyrie extension because of against I mentioned going into the second year of that three-year contract that he signed you know with Dallas so there’s a lot more to consider based off of where they are financially as well bronny himself is that somebody that you would you’d have to probably invest some draft capital and you don’t have a ton youve got one future first and four future seconds uh I think including this 58th pick right and so would is that somebody you would invest any kind of draft capital in to try and get bronnie in this draft let’s say you don’t you’re not guaranteed you know LeBron James to join is that somebody you would go after I’m not trading or using any future Capital to go get him if he happens to fall to me at 58 cool we’ll take the flyer on him and as Rich Paul apparently says you know the well give him a guaranteed deal I don’t know exactly what that means but it sounds cool I guess if you’re rich Paul and your client uh and bronny but yeah he would have to fall to me at 58 before I actually take him there because again you look at the profile that he has as a player there’s a lot of work for him to do to become a much more functional offensive player I think defensively he’s got enough to be able to feel like you got enough to work with there but he’s got to have a lot of his offense created for him because he’s not a guy that’s going to go get his own bucket which we know the Mavericks need someone to be able to not only be better on the defensive end but also can go get his own bucket as well that’s not something that bronnie James is capable of at this point in his career and may not NE be capable of and during the entirety of his career especially being at 61 and a half as Well’s a little bit on the shorter side uh as well so yeah if he falls to me at 58 yeah I’ll take him but I’m not investing draft Capital just to move up to try to go get him I can’t do that I’m in the same spot they they need that draft Capital to improve the roster they have holes still like we didn’t expect them to be in the finals because of the holes that the maps needed to fill they needed to add some more offense they probably need to be better defending at the point of attack like there’s guys that you can go out there and get with that draft Capital I’m not using it on bronny James a 6-1 guard that looked timid in in college as freshman year at USC imagine in the NBA what he ends up doing and like how long it takes him to get into like being able to uh like being able to contribute at a high level or or any kind of level with the Mavericks so that’s where I am with it that’s where we are go check out Kevin gry at Kevin Sports on on social Kevin gry Sports on YouTube that’s the channel as well yes sir and uh and yeah we’ll have uh we’ll have more in the offseason Reggie and I will do another episode today because this is what we do guys thanks so much for hanging out with us on lockdown Maps being part of the one more thing [Music]

The Dallas Mavericks are rumored to have an interest in Bronny James in the NBA Draft. ESPN reported that “Nico Harrison is like an uncle to Bronny” but is that connection enough? Would Lebron James join his son in Dallas if it happened? Should the Mavs want that?

Nick Angstadt & Kevin Gray @KevinGraySports react to the news that the Dallas Mavericks are interested in Bronny James and discuss Lebron James’ connections to the Mavs, Kyrie Irving, Jason Kidd, and how he would fit with Luka Doncic.

  1. Bring Lebron in so he can get half the team traded, get Jason Kidd and Nico Harrison fired. And force the coaching staff to give Bronny minutes even tho heā€™s not an NBA caliber player. Makes sense

  2. Not all fans support LeBron or his son coming to the Mavs. Iā€™m one of those whose fellowship with the Mavs will disappear if any James is on the team.

  3. I blame Michael Finley for taking Luka Doncic recovery beer, let the man drink a beer, you think that is worse than what Ja did?

  4. Oh, sure… Get Bronny but don't recruit/trade for LeBron. I mean, if there's nobody still standing out at the time, go for the publicity, perhaps marketing dollars, and then get into a good luxury tax? There is a path through the numbers somewhere. Meh, okay, the 58th pick would probably still be worth more traded for a better future draft pick…

  5. Lebron too expensive and too old.

Yes heā€™s still good but I think Mavs shpuld look for a long term solution instead of a 1-2 year expensive rental

  6. How is LeBron going to play with his son if he canā€™t get any playing time or is relegated to the gleague? Garbage minutes maybe

  7. A couple of years ago I remember Liangelo Ball was knocking on the door of playing with Lamelo in Charlotte. This is giving me similar vibes

  8. If you think Tim Hardaway Srā€™s bitching about his sonā€™s playing time, opportunities or criticism of Luka was a distraction, just wait till we have a newly retired Lebron critiquing his sonā€™s team and teammates – itā€™s a circus we donā€™t want.

  9. I still say stop having Luka bringing the ball up court. Bring in CP3 to do that, and create for Kai and Luka. Also bring in a shooter like PG, or Kat. IMO

  10. THE RACCOON squad says NO to Bronny. We don't need the media drama he would bring. Look what Wemby brought to the Spurs and it did NOTHING for them.
