LeBron won’t let him fail! 🗣️ – Alan Hahn’s thoughts on JJ Redick as Lakers new head coach | Get Up

and there’s so much to be said about this a fascinating move but we’ll start with you Wiman take us through this thing the Lakers it was a a The Road Less travel that they took to wind up at JJ reic but that’s where it winds up yesterday what can you tell us this is a highrisk high reward type situation the Lakers here with JJ reck are really going with a hybrid coach one of the things you typically see two types of coaches in the NBA you see former players who tend to be good with relationships and motivational tactics and you see sort of the video uh room route where you see coaches who are specialists in exos and um in in analytics and Analysis JJ is kind of both he’s a former player he’s still very much a peer of players of this generation he’s had many of them on his podcast not just the LeBron podcast but also his own podcast which has been around for several years but he’s also very devoted to analytics very devoted to analysis and I think you will see him in try to employ both the challenge Greenie he’s never coached any meaningfully any meaningfully at any level that’s exactly right parenthetically he’s a few months younger than LeBron James so you think he is getting off on a good foot at least in one way Allan tell everybody why yeah because he has the most important Ally in that locker room and on that team and that is LeBron James it certainly starts there now LeBron James might only have him as a coach for two years like we’ve seen in the past but maybe because LeBron James might only be playing for another two years that’s about it but to have that support already in place where those two have had had a meeting of the minds we have all seen it played out publicly on that podcast which is fascinating to watch by the way because you can see how they go through all the X’s and O’s he has that in his locker room the rest of the locker room will follow suit and for LeBron James he won’t let him fail he will not let JJ reic fail that’s why this to me will work and the coaching staff that JJ will put together will also make sure that he has all the support he needs to be successful well it’s interesting when you say about 2 years Cindy can we put up a38 here because lately most of the time that’s about the length of time you get to coach LeBron James anyway going back over the course of his career at the very beginning of course he had Mike Brown in Cleveland he had Eric spoler four years in Miami and that couldn’t have possibly gone better the rest of it as you see three years is pretty much the maximum here but you know who knows all of this here’s the key to this to me Zach you know who has seen that full screen is JJ reick he is well aware I I understand what Michael Wan’s point is and he’s not wrong he’s clearly walking into a unique and complicated and in some ways very difficult situation but we know JJ reic well enough to know he’s well aware of that it’s none of it is going to take him by surprise I I I get why Wendy is saying high risk High reward I don’t really think it’s that big of a risk for either party number one who are the who are the alternatives for the Lakers they’re like oh they turned this guy down this amazing coach who has a proven track record of winning to hire JJ reck and for JJ look there’s going to be a learning curve we know there’s going to be a learning curve there isid pressure in Los Angeles even though this is a playin Team every freaking year okay let’s be realistic about what they are at least for now before the offseason but look if I know JJ he’s going to put in the work he is going to be kneed deep in all the tactics and the schemes you are never going to catch him behind the curve and what if we did this what if we adjusted our defense like this what if we played this way he’s going to have to learn the pace of coaching like you got to make these decision you played for SPO you got to make these decisions faster than the guy across from you on the other bench and he’s that that’s a learning curve but he is going to put in the work and I think he’s going to be good at this and if it doesn’t work out you saw the list of coaches for the Lakers in Lebron you move on everybody moves on like I I think this is a good opportunity for both as long as the expectations are realistic good luck with that from the perspective look JJ reick and you I’m not saying you’re similar but you’re sort of in similar places right I mean you super highly respected former Players whose careers recently ended and you’re now looking over the landscape of what do I want to do next do I stay in the business obviously the heat love you you can go in that direction you go into coaching so take me through what you think the decision that JJ is making here is and how do you think this is received by the players on that team I mean I think this is the best decision for the Lakers I think this is a great opportunity for JJ and I do think is if it works I mean the reward can be amazing but what I will say is roster I mean that’s what I’m looking at for JJ roster you got your coach right now but what do you do with your roster I don’t care if JJ draws up the annexation of Puerto Rico like the Lakers in my opinion do not have a championship roster that’s a little bit of little little little Giants for you people at home know that that’s how your op that’s just what it is yeah it doesn’t matter what JJ draws up they don’t have a championship roster right now I mean what do you do with D’Angelo Russell that’s 19 points 47% from the field 41% from three do you replace that do you let him walk cuz he’s going to opt out for sure now it’s a difference LeBron’s opting out but he ain’t going nowhere people now D’Angelo Russell might actually go somewhere so do you bring him back or do you take that money and it elsewhere so right now if I’m JJ I’m looking at my roster and saying do we realistically have a championship roster they have Championship expectations for sure yes that’s Michael wilbon’s biggest point is because what Zack Lo just said is exactly right Wendy what what’s the stat you keep giving me how many times have they finished higher than sixth what what was the number you keep quoting on this show this is a rough one in in the last 12 years they finished in the top six which is you know the playin line once they won the title that year but one time in 12 years where did that come from I’m not sure where it came from because ad has been thriving he just had arguably the best season as a Laker he’s he’s accepted the role as being the primary Center over the last two seasons and he’s absolutely been terrific in that role he was tremendous defensively last year I do think there’s a question about Anthony Davis’s future as a Laker after LeBron leaves after he retires what will happen then but the the organization is committed to ad being the team’s centerpiece and best player I’m sure JJ reick believes that I know LeBron believes that so so JJ uh not not excuse me um Monty Williams who was fired by Detroit the other day and all of a sudden became available and all of a sudden all this talk would he make a a sense for the Lakers he and Anthony Davis have a close relationship from their time together in New Orleans I don’t know if that factors in here but what do you think we’ve talked so much about the LeBron of it all with JJ how about the ad of it all I mean I think you definitely have to make sure ad is happy but I don’t think this is a situation where by Allstar if he has if he’s not winning or they’re not doing the things that they think they can do that ad wants out I mean it’s been the last couple years he clearly wasn’t happy with Darin ham he came out and spoke on that but he never asked to be out you know what I’m saying he probably wasn’t happy the year before but he never asked to be out so I don’t know if like he’s been happy with the coaching staff because they keep switching coaches so obviously if you’re switching coaches you’re talking to your top players before you’re making these decisions and they keep switching coaches so I don’t know if he’s been happy with the coaches but he hasn’t asked to be out and I don’t think he’ll ask to be out this time the key word in in perk’s statement is I wouldn’t be surprised nothing in the NBA surprises me anymore it’s a crazy League 247 but ad has been fantastic for the Lakers he’s been one of the five best defensive players in the league for his entire time there he’s gotten durable it’s been a su success story for him in LA and whatever relationship he has or had with Monty Williams wasn’t strong enough to prevent him from demanding a trade out of New Orleans that ended up with him in Los Angeles so to me this is just a wait and see thing every Superstar is always you know you’re always wondering what the next 5 years holds for him but it’s been an unqualified success for ad in in La yeah I just think if you’re JJ reck that’s got to be a priority is to have him playing at a leite level right which means what plays you calling for him what are you going to do to make him comfortable make him happy you don’t have to worry about plays for LeBron James I mean that’s it’s LeBron James he’ll figure that out it is going to be about maximizing everything you can have a 30-year-old Anthony Davis what perk said is if he’s not playing at an elite level well that’s on ad then if he’s not playing Elite level he an elite level this year he played a lot of games this year those are all the things you want to see if he continues to do that they’re going to have success and reic will be the key to that as the coach I I just go back to some of the conversations that I heard when when JJ’s name first came up for this which is however long ago that was and people wondering well that relationship with LeBron we’ve seen them on that podcast is that Pro and so so Anthony Davis maybe is just sort of the placeholder for the other players in that locker room who might be looking and listening again I’m just speculating I’m I’m but you tell me cuz you’ve lived this life um that may be looking at it and saying well who knows what conversations he and LeBron are having that were’re not privy to that’s not a usual situation with a coach I mean definitely your top players are going to have conversations with the head coach behind the closed doors but you just got to understand that when the coach steps in the locker room it’s one voice that you’re listening to it’s one message that’s coming to the team and everybody has to buy in and I’m going tell you it’s at this point for JJ when you walk into that locker room man you have time they gave him four years so if you don’t buy in guess what we can find somewhere else for you to go you don’t have to be here because if the Lakers are talking about winning the championship they have to FasTrack this process Braun only has two years they only gave um JJ reick four years I don’t know if that team is four years away from winning the championship like I said right now they have Rost of things that they need to figure out he has two years left with a player option so it’s also aligning up with the same way the first half of JJ’s contract is with these two guys yeah I mean it’s not like JJ has been a lifelong LeBron guy like JJ played all over the league has relationships everywhere like I I think he knows how to leverage those relationships with other people on the team okay [Music]

  3. "I don't care if he draws up the annexation of puerto rico they don't have a roster" hahaha. Haslem has some skill would love to see this guy more.

  4. Umm if that's the case we'd been in the WCF…and he can only do soo much…cus he dang sure isn't beating the top teams in the West by himself

  5. Hamm was praised when they won that meaningless play in tourney then got fired because they lost in the playoffs.. bron is a liability on defense

  6. The Lakers are a clown show. Meanwhile, Boston hanging Banner 18, and heavily favored to win 19 next season.

  7. Yay the Lakers found a new coach to blame and fire for players underachieving and Rob Pelinka just sitting on his behind not doing his job

  8. That says it all.
Lebron is the one who controls mostly everything!
He literally made the Lakers a Circus Act!!!
    What a Shame!!!

  9. After this fails, you have to fire rob pelinka. Could drafted Tatum and brown and should've had 2 championships by now.

  10. the best news is that we dont have hear him talk anymore … can some team please hire J Will and perk lol

  11. its sad though that this still the top topic.. lebron… the league is young and competetive and lakers are not,.. move on geez!

  12. Mark Jackson a qualified head coach can't get a job a player with no coaching experience like JJ Reddick automatically gets a job. This won't work. I hate when these diva players get to pick their coach total B's move

  13. JJ will do an excellent job and he will make the team much better and of course he will win a championship for the los angeles Lakers !!!! Yes sir!!!!!!

  14. Uhh he will. 😂
Lebron is a collector of scapegoats and JJ is just the newest in his collection. And the most digusting part of this is how apparent it is that Lebron gets to pick his coaches. The power this fraud troll man child has is despicable. 😤
