Is Eric Gordon leaving the Phoenix Suns?
Eric Gordon is one of four members of last year’s Phoenix Suns team that has a player option for next year the player option that’s on the table is $33.36 million should he come back um there was a report yesterday from Kelly EO from the Athletics uh from the athletic and and Kelly is the Rockets Insider mhm said it’s uh 5050 on Eric Gordon’s stance on whether or not he wants to pick up that option and come back for another season with the Suns but also reported that he may have interest in returning to Houston where the landscape has changed for the Rockets when he left finally and many people were after Eric Gordon for a long time and he stayed in Houston for a long time during a HTH movement uh came to Phoenix last year that’s a team that might be ready to make the elevation of the playoffs next year and he could play a key role on that team probably for more money than 3.36 million yeah Houston was playing with their hair their Collective hair on fire at the end of last season yeah especially against the Suns yeah well them too absolutely so yeah I I if if body language is any indication Eric Gordon was among those who didn’t really look very happy here last year and uh it was a Pity because there was there was a handful of games when Eric Gordon delivered the Suns what I thought he was going to give them really consistently and in those games the Suns looked very formidable when when he was an impact shooter a sniper on the perimeter along with Grayson Allen it really made the Suns feel is hot is hot is hot but those games were very very few and far between and he had injury issues so yeah I would be I would be stunned if he chose to come back but he he would really have to believe that the offensive um schematics would be different I think yeah and and gambo kind of uh piggybacked on that report from kellyo and said I do not expect Eric Gordon to be back with the Suns and maybe that lore of Houston proves to be too much let me just ask you flat out mhm do you want Eric Gordon back not really I I kind of agree with you on on the body language thing M uh Eric Gordon managed to play 68 games last year if you would would have told me that before I looked it up I’d say you’re nuts he didn’t play that much but he had a series of nagging like one to two game injuries he didn’t miss extended periods of time but he got hurt a lot it it sure seemed like it didn’t it it really did and ideally looking forward for the Suns if they can find a way to maneuver the roster and bring Grayson Allen Off the Bench I think Eric Gordon becomes Expendable not only did Allen shoot the ball better than Gordon did from three-point range in fact he was the top three-point shooter in the league um he showed the propensity at times to be able to run the point which again is something the Suns need in stretches they’re not going to get a point guard this off season that’s going to come in and start and play 35 minutes it’s just not the way this it’s not happening but if Grayson Allen can do that in spot minutes off the bench I think you’re in in in decent shape I don’t think it would be a huge loss I don’t think so either um I don’t know if they could find a better shooter at that kind of price but but I hope they can try but like I said it just that those rare games when he and Grayson Allen gave them two legitimate three-point weapons with the other big three kind of stting and dashing and doing their thing that to me felt like now that’s an offense it just didn’t happen it just didn’t click very often but even if Gordon does make that determination I think it’s key you look at another player option on this on the sun’s roster and that’s Damen Lee kind of a forgotten guy who two years ago was one of the top three-point shooters in the NBA last year he had the awful knee injury that kept him out all year he’s going to be healthy he has a player option but if he picks up that option and Damen Lee kind of strikes me as a guy that likes it here in Phoenix if if we’re gauging body language and demeanor yeah I would agree with that I think he’s at a different place than Eric Gordon was but then you have Allen and Lee as your three-point Shooters Off the Bench you could do a lot worse than that and I think Josh aogi is another guy player option I would Pro I think there’s going to be a market for Josh aogi which might complicate things really he’s athletic and he’s a really good perimeter Defender okay I mean the the three-point shooting the offensive uh drop off is is noticeable uh Drew Eubanks is the fourth guy I don’t think he’ll be back yeah much to the Delight of a lot of Phoenix Sun fans and I will say this I’ll say I’ve said it before I’ll say it again Drew Eubanks could be a maddening player but who was who who on the Suns wasn’t a maddening player at times last year let he gave you he gave you everything he had I if if you were expecting more from Drew EU Banks then maybe your expectations are the issue here huh yeah there’s they’re backup centers for a reason M yeah and and so listen and so I there’s not a lot of flexibility here what they’re going to be able to do if they’re going to be able to to actually package that draft pick and and and and bring in a guy uh I like you I tend to think that at some point in time you need to start getting a little younger a little and you need to focus on athleticism and there’s not a ton of that on this roster but there’s a name that’s being attached to the Suns that doesn’t fit the athletic Bill and doesn’t fit the getting younger bill but it’s an intriguing name Kyle Lowry do anything for you oh don’t know how much he has left in the tank he can still be an irritant he still gives you elements that are missing on this team from from True point guard play can still hit a three and can defend a little bit still at age 38 I wonder what the Market’s going to be for for a guy like it’s a really really good question Phoenix makes a lot of sense for his for what he brings and what they’re lacking there’s a connection there but does he want to come in for a for a minimum contract that’s a good question it’s almost here seems like it’s been
