Players the Orlando Magic should Target this Offseason

it is a very exciting time to be an Orlando Magic fan not only are we expecting Anthony Parker Jeff welman and the entire Orlando Magic front office to be aggressive this summer helping make this team better after they won 47 games they were a top five seed in the Eastern Conference and they nearly won a first round playoff series over the Cleveland Cavaliers expect this front office to be aggressive not only through free agency but also through the trade market and potentially giving away some draft capital in order to make this Foster better and we’re going to be talking about a tier full of players that I think the Orlando Magic should Target this offseason now obviously it’s unrealistic that we’re going to be able to get every single one of these guys but I’m going to go through a tier style of tier three two and one of guys that I want to see Orlando get tier three being supplemental role players two being very good players who I think could help make an immediate impact and tier one being guys that are an absolute unrealistic Grand Slam if the Orlando Magic can acquire in this off seon but let’s talk about some important offseason dates for this Orlando Magic team and really just the NBA as a whole so as I’m recording this video the Boston Celtics just won the NBA finals last night which means the day after the NBA Finals teams can begin negotiating with their own free agents which for the magic they have a handful of their own free agents they’ve got four unrestricted free agents guys like Marquel folz chuma OK goou baz and Gary Harris they also have three restrict free agents in guys like Admiral scoffield traveling Queen and and Kon Harris lastly they’ve got two guys on a club option Mo Vagner and Joe Les and lastly they’ve got Jonathan Isaac on a $17.4 million contract which is non- guaranteed the Orlando Magic are expected to have $50 to $60 million this offseason and it’s going to be very interesting to see who they retain and what kind of money moves they’re going to make in order to free up some of that cap now as of July 1st that is when the free agency moratorium will begin which is essentially a verbal agreement that will last until July 6 with pending free agents that are not on your own team which means that you can start having verbal agreements but as of July 6th everything can come into fruition which means that each NBA team may begin signing free agents to contracts as of 12:01 p.m. Eastern on July 6 which could be a huge day for this Orlando Magic team now before I go ahead and start getting into the tiar and talking about a bunch of guys that I want to see the Orlando Magic Target this offseason if you guys have not seen I already made a video talking about if the Orlando Magic should pursue Klay Thompson this week and I talked about five specific players I want the Orlando Magic to Target this offseason if you guys have not seen that I will go ahead and link to those videos up above for you guys to go ahead and check out but let’s go ahead and get into tier three now like I mentioned earlier tier three is going to be a bunch of guys who are going to be serviceable you could probably get at a very reasonable price and they’re going to be supplementary role players who could come in and make an impact on this team here’s Five Guys I’ve got Luke Canard Gary Trent Jr cavius Caldwell Pope Malik Beasley and tyus Jones now Luke Canard does have a $14.8 million Club option with the Memphis Grizzlies so we’ll see if Memphis wants to pick that up Gary Trent Jr is an unrestricted free agent cavius Caldwell Pope has a$1 15.4 million player option Malik Beasley and tyus Jones are both unrestricted free agents as well now the reoccurring theme in tier three really excluding tus Jones who I think is a very safe and serviceable point guard I don’t believe that he’s a starting caliber point guard on a championship caliber team maybe he could be if the Orlando Magic continue to ascend but a lot of these guys Luke Canard Gary Trent kcp and Malik Beasley all of these guys are three-point Specialists maybe Gary Trent didn’t have the best of Seasons maybe kcp can be a little bit inconsistent with his role in Denver but a guy like Luke Canard this is an absolute sniper Malik Beasley we saw he struggled in LA but really played a lot better in Milwaukee he obviously played very good in Utah before going to La a lot of these guys are going to help tremendously with Orlando’s deficiencies three-point shooting not just in the regular season but even in the postseason you saw that’s where the magic struggled the most and you can get a sniper like this you can get a reliable point guard and a guy like tus Jones who could come in and really fill that void in that role help run the offense he is a very underrated passer I really like all of these guys as serviceable rotational pieces that could come in and help make a solid impact immediately on this Orlando Magic team now getting into tier two let me talk about five players who I think are a little bit better in terms of their talent their production and what they could bring to this Orlando Magic team give me Isaiah hartenstein Klay Thompson OG anobi Malik monk or buddy heel now all of these guys are unrestricted free agents excluding OG an anobi who has a 19 .9 million doll player option with the New York Knicks but it is rumored to be that OG an anobi is not happy with the New York nicks’s offer and that he’s likely going to test out free agency I can guarantee you whoever is going to throw the most money at ogn and Obi and it would be wonderful if the magic did a guy who is a terrific perimeter Defender and you really see him coming into his own offensively if the magic wanted to throw a bag at him but his teammate Isaiah hartenstein the magic could definitely use another Center another big maybe make Wendell a four which I think he looks a lot more comfortable in and Isaiah hartenstein really proved his worth this season with the New York Knicks now Klay Thompson I’m not going to go too far into depth with him we obviously know he had a lot of career lows this past season but nonetheless if you want to see more Klay Thompson I will go ahead and link to that video up above and the fact of the matter is even if Klay Thompson is not knocking down triples the matter of fact is he is a threat Klay Thompson is a threat from the perimeter not knocking down 268 triples last season fourth in the association and he was number three in the association and three pointers made per game off of catch and shoot only behind Dante dvan chenzo and Larry marinan Klay Thompson could bring a lot to this Orlando Magic team especially with his championship pedigree now the last two guys buddy heeld one of the most underrated three-point Shooters of all time would do wonders for this magic team cuz he can play not only as a catch and shoot three-point specialist he can move without the ball come off a pick and roll buddy Hill can do it all and lastly a guy like Malik monk he obviously was the Sixth Man of the Year runner up this past season for the Sacramento Kings averaged a career-high Off the Bench for the Kings over 15 points a game five and a half assist Malik monk was nothing short of spectacular and I had an opportunity to talk to coach Mosley about Malik monk when the Sacramento Kings came into town and listen to what coach Mosley had stated about Malik monk in his production when he was asked about it from me Jamal Mosley had stated his ability to score to generate quick offense whether that’s pushing the pace stepping into the three or attacking the basket he opens up for a lot of those guys on the floor when he’s out there as well and if you ask me I think Jamaal Mosley really wants Malik monk here now getting into tier one guys who I think are absolutely unrealistic but guys that I would still love to see the Orlando Magic Target this offseason let’s get into him dejonte Murray or Trey young Colin seon Nick Claxton anony Simons and Paul George now a majority of these names excluding Colin seon and Trey young I’ve already talked about fully in depth I’m not going to go too in depth with them if you want to see that video like I mentioned earlier five players the magic should Target this off season I’ll link to it up above but just to be brief with this Deonte Murray is going to be entering the first year of a four-year deal so not only are you going to have to trade away Capital to get him you’re going to have to be willing to take on that contract similar with a guy like Trey young one of the best offensive Centric guards in the game yes we know he’s a defensive liability but the Orlando Magic are stout defensively you would make up for it with his offensive production and his ability to space the floor and run the offense and help alleviate that pressure off of fron Vagner and Palo benero Trey young is in the third year of a 5-year deal Colin seon still has two more years left on his deal but the problem is the Utah Jazz are going to be looking to move off of potentially Colin seon who might be taking away a lot of reps from a guy like Keon George who the Orlando Magic could have drafted last season and when you talk about a guy like Colin ston the young bull this is a guy who plays with his absolute heart on his sleeve similar to jayen Suggs I think he’s actually a better offensive player than jayen Suggs he runs an offense much better he gets downhill with efficiency and at ease Colin seon is a very good player he’s really had an emergence in Utah and he would be a terrific fit with the culture and the defensive identity here in Orlando and then the other three names that I mentioned Nick claxon’s an unrestricted free agent Anthony Simons he’s under contract for the next two years and then Paul George on a 48.8 million player option he’s likely going to opt out of that contract and test out free agency I would love for Orlando to get him bring him in be another great 3 and D forward on the wing that could help really pave the way for B Carol and for Vagner anony Simons the hometown kid bring him back he’s got two more years left on his deal and Portland might be looking to move on from him because they just drafted scoot Henderson last season and shayen sharp and then when Nick Claxton a guy who just turned 25 years of age in April he’s expected to get 80 to100 million this off season he is by far to me the best and most versatile big man in the fre agency class over yonas Valen junis and Isaiah hartenstein look if the Orlando Magic can get any of these guys I’ve talked about in the tiers but especially in tier one Deon Murray Trey young Anthony Simons Colin ston or Paul George I would be absolutely ecstatic if they got these guys and I think it’s an exciting time in general just to be an Orlando Magic fan but magic fans I want to hear your guys’ thoughts in the comments down below what did you guys make about my tiers tiers 3 2 and one about the guys that I would like to see Orlando Target this off season and who do you realistically think the magic will acquire this offseason not just in free agency but potentially through the trade market I want to hear your guys’ thoughts in the comments down below but magic Fant if you guys appreciate the work and the content 1. Orlando Magic offseason thoughts:

The Magic need to be smartly aggressive and should consider making a big splash or 2 through trades and free agency.

First, I would like to see the Magic seek out a trade for a good volume shooting and playmaking point guard/combo guard and possibly a wing player. My current list of players who are potentially on the trading block that I would be most interested in are:

    1. Anfernee Simons combo guard – Blazers.

    2. Mikal Bridges shooting guard/small forward – Nets

    3. Trae Young point guard = Hawks

    4. Darius Garland point guard – Cavs

    5. Dejaunte Murray combo guard – Hawks

Second, the free agents I would be most interested in are:

    1. Malik Monk combo guard – Kings.

    2. Gary Trent, Jr. shooting guard – Raptors.

    3. Isaiah Likely combo guard – Raptors.

    4. Tyus Jones point guard – Wizards.

    5. Patrick Williams small forward – Bulls.

    6. Kelly Oubre, Jr. small forward – 76ers.

Older veterans I would consider if I landed a couple of my other top choices from above, and only then, but would still probably prefer not to sign at all, especially Klay. As a fan of the Warriors dynasty, I want to see Klay retire as a Warrior, and only a Warrior, along with Steph. I am all for adding a veteran or two, but not one in their mid to late thirties unless we have acquired a couple of other players that put us closer to winning a title. Neither of these two make us title contenders if they are the biggest fish we catch this summer and would both take up too much cap space and are on a different timeline than the Magic are currently on. Give me a veteran in their late 20s and maybe early early 30s:

    1. Paul George shooting guard/small forward – Clippers.

    2. Klay Thompson shooting guard – Warriors.

Third, the NBA draft where the Magic have the 18th and 47th picks in the draft. With that 18th pick I believe these players will either be there or within reach by trading up a few picks are my favorite players in that window of players:

    1. Jared McCain point guard – Duke.

    2. Kal'el Ware center – Indiana.

    3. Tyler Smith power forward – G League Ignite.

    4. Carlton "Bub" Carrington combo guard – Pitt.

    5. Tristan Da Silva small forward – Colorado.

There are a few other players that I would be fine with taking at 18, but these five are my favorite, with the first 2 being worth a trade up to get. I didn't include Edey because I believe he will go in the top 5 when it is all said and done, but if he falls I would take him easily. I believe Jared McCain is the most criminally underrated player in this draft. If I were a betting man, I would bet he becomes the Steph Curry/Donovan Mitchell of this draft and ends up being the best player, or 1 of the 3 best players in this draft. He is the same height as Curry and is being dinged because he isn't an elite athlete, just like Curry and Haliburton, or Jokic, but skill and just knowing the game and understanding the feng shui of basketball is far more important than elite athleticism.

Last season, I wasn't super high on Anthony Black, but I do like his game, especially on defense and as a playmaker and passer on offense, however, his shot was awful in college, but he did improve his shooting tremendously between the end of his college career and the beginning of his pro one. That mentality and work ethic make me really like the pick now, even though I probably would have gone with Taylor Hendricks, but am glad we got Black. Hendricks is great too, but I was worried about Jonathan Isaac ever staying healthy, but since he did and hopefully can going forward, Black was a more needed piece to the team as he is the truest point guard on the roster. Now, with that second pick of ours, pick 11, I am still disappointed we took Jett Howard, who is talented and should have a solid NBA career, but we could have done so much better with that pick. Howard, doesn't move particularly well without the ball in his hands and is more of a spot up shooter with great form and a quick trigger, but that is not as useful as someone who is able to be in constant motion like Steph and Klay all those years. Because of that I had Jett ranked about 7 -12 spots lower than we picked him last year. The top 3 players on my board when that pick came up were this:

    1. Jordan Hawkins of UConn – taken 14th by the Pelicans.

    2. Grady Dick of Kansas – taken 13th by the Raptors.

    3. Keyonte George of Baylor – taken 16th by the Jazz.

If I knew what I know now, my top 2 would look like this:

    1. Jordan Hawkins

    2. Keyonte George

Hawkins is exactly who I thought he was, a young Klay Thompson in the body of a young Kerry Kittles. But his game is so similar to Klay's. Quick release done at the high point while at the top of the jump and being able to square up easily. He is always moving without the ball in his hands. He can also attack the basket and is a good defender. Gonna have a long highly productive career sans injury. George is who I thought he was but far better as a playmaker and passer than I thought, being able to play as a volume shooting tall point guard instead of a ball dominant average height shooting guard. Grady Dick was good still, but not on the same level as those other two, however I still like him more than Jett, though the gap between those two isn't as big as the one between Jett and Hawkins or George.

Finally, I was not a fan of just giving away our second round pick last year and forgoing using it. The reason why? SF/PF GG Jackson, PF/C Trayce Jackson-Davis. Both these players were selected after the pick we gave away. Davis looks like a good rotational big man and GG looks like a high-value starter and possibly a star. I liked him better than Jett Howard as well. Just to think, we could have had Anthony Black, Jordan Hawkins, and GG Jackson in last year's draft. That would have been a home run of a draft. I'm all for using second round picks as part of larger trades involving moving up in the draft or acquiring veteran talent, but am not a fan of just deciding "we don't want to use it this year." Just imagine if Denver had thought that the year they selected Nikola Jokic in the second round. They had already drafted 2 good players in the first round that year – SG Gary Harris and C Jusuf Nurkic – they could have been satisfied too. I have never been a fan of just giving away assets. Has never made sense to me. Let's say, if we use the 47th pick to somehow move up 3 or 4 spots in this year's draft and select Jared McCain or as part of a trade package for Simons or Bridges, then we are using that resource well, just trading an early second round pick away at the last moment for a future, and most likely worse, draft pick, is silly, especially considering GG was still on the board at the time.
