we have yet another Klay Topson update to get to on today’s Golden State Warriors today did the Warriors offer clay a new contract before the start of NBA free agency stay tuned to find out what that free agency with the draft coming up next Wednesday and Thursday I also want to touch on a trade for Lori Markin and there’s been some chatter and a little bit of momentum on that front as well so that will be Story number two we revert back to Story number one and that is The Latest Buzz around Klay Thompson according to ESPN’s Tim McMahon he said quote we’ve heard it’s a 2-year offer from the Warriors for Klay Thompson here very very interesting Tim McMahon went further on this saying it’s as much about years as dollars in some of these cases that signals clay might be more focused on a long-term deal and I know we’ve talked about the Orlando Magic a lot as a team that could be interested in clay that poaches him away from the Warriors because they could offer him more years and more money but now there’s starting to be talk that the Orlando Magic don’t want to overpay for Klay Thompson either it’s going to be a fascinating free agency period for all 30 teams across the NBA including Golden State Windor as we talked about on yesterday’s show that’s Brian windhorse to vsbn basically alluded to this and then according to Monty po of NBC Sports Bay Area Klay Thompson is searching for a contract that lasts at least 3 years so this would mean that the Warriors and Clay are aart on the years are aart on the money and then of course role is going to be important how many minutes will Klay Thompson get will he be a starter will he be a role player if he does return to the Golden State Warriors could klay’s Market be lower than expected that is a question that I want to spend a couple of moments on here because that impacts things to a great degree Warriors are thinking we can’t get clay back for 20 to 25 because he’s going to get $30 million from another team in free agency that has maybe made it to the playoffs and they’re looking to add a piece like clay who’s won four titles who is a big shot maker could be a defensive upgrade over the existing players on that team but if no teams are really willing to pay Klay Thompson because they’re worried about the decline the age the injuries and the player that he is now does that in turn make him more affordable for Golden State let’s pivot to this report from Jake fiser of Yahoo sports I told you we have some new Klay Thompson updates at this juncture I am skeptical there’s really much of a market out there the Orlando stuff I’m not so certain about there’s definite word that the magic are only willing to offer a 2-year balloon payment bigger than what they did for Joe Eng Les last year and if the magic aren’t hot on the heels of Klay Thompson they’re really not pursuing him what are other teams going to do how much other teams going to offer are they going to offer that much and if a team like the magic doesn’t really want Clay and they’re willing to go to the Joe Eng Les price which is $1 million which is what he made last year and then this year it’s a team option Golden State might be looking around saying can we get clay for 1520 if that’s the case we might be in because we can build out the rest of our basketball unit from my view if fiser is hearing correctly here Orlando won’t offer over $20 million per year and if they’re the biggest Suitor who will you see how I’m tying everything together here on today’s show now we know that Klay Thompson’s also a very positive fella he doesn’t seem to be bothered by this does he know that maybe he has an offer from a mystery team out there that’s willing to give him some cash flow clay has been working out with Team Bahamas buddy hee is who he’s pictured with here Andre Aton in the background could partake alongside team Bahamas if they’re able to qualify for the Olympics you look at the numbers for the last four years for clay and I know we talked about this here on the show declining defensive player not the same offensive player he’s lost a little bit of a step because of the injuries also because of the age but if a team can get 17 points per 43% from the floor almost 40% from three that’s good play good production for a team that could be needing those types of numbers a floor spacer somebody to change the culture help you out in the playoffs who’s never going to have any fear in the pressure cooker teams may be coming to an unspoken agreement too that Clay is not worth 25 to $30 million per year at this point and I don’t think he is nor would I pay that if I’m Golden State and other teams are probably looking at that market saying yeah same so pick a team for for clay W for the Warriors M for the magic o for other for those of you who want Klay Thompson around because it would be so weird to see him in a different uniform last couple of shows some positive developments on that front coming little bit too much but Lori Markin and alongside Steph Curry very intriguing piece because he could score at all three levels he has a lot of size this is an ascending player who I just think would be a really good fit on this Warriors team and I think that Steve cerr would really enjoy being able to find different ways to put him in the lineup last two years he’s been awesome 25 points per game two years ago 23 points per game last year you know a solid rebounder given that size north of eight boards past two years not really of an assist guy but you’re going to give him the Rock and hope that he can put the biscuit in the basket 48 49% the last two years and then the three-point numbers really good the issue with golden state you’re going to have to give up a lot for a player like that who is looked at by the Jazz as a blossoming star other teams by a blossoming star so you could talk about aari Markin in trade but you’re going to have to give up some pieces trade idea number one might have to include the ascending Jonathan kaminga now Markin and’s better right now does kaminga have a higher ceiling might still think that marinin is the better player Down the Road Brandon psky included in that deal and then Moses Moody and then first round picks in 2026 and in 2028 so you might be getting aari Markin in here but you’re giving up a kaminga psky Moses Moody and two first round picks that’s that’s the asking price right now that’s the reality of it trade idea number two trade away kaminga you trade away Brandon psky and then Gary pton the second is the third player included in that trade with two first round picks once again in 2026 2028 you want to talk about a post Seth Curry era those draft picks down the road could end up being valuable for Golden State if they have them if they don’t they could run into some issues how do they improve their team giving up kaminga and pods it sucks and I’d like to see how those young players develop but the Warriors have kind of cornered themselves a little bit with what has happened since winning the championship two years ago psky kaminga they are costc controlled assets who are younger players and the tricky fickle nature of this you trade for Markin and he might improve your team but to what cost you also lose a lot of valuable depth and good young players do psky and kaminga help you win a title next year they’re going to have to take a sizable leap but down the road they might help you out a little bit more as compared to a Markin in so those are probably the conversations that the Warriors front office is having I’m not sure if kaminga will be ready for a second option and to be ready or to I don’t know if he’s ready to be a second option excuse me on a title team in Curry’s career so if you want another ring and you don’t think that kaminga could be that number two two guy and the sidekick to Steph do you get Lori marinan who is that guy right now also you could resign Klay Thompson in this scenario so in that starting five you have Steph Curry Klay Thompson Draymond Green lri marinan and let’s call it Trace Jackson Davis that’s the potential roster right there where you still also have Andrew Wiggins either Gary pton the second or Moses Moody depending on who you deal the 52nd overall pick is included on that team and Trace Jackson Davis that’s a solid team right there depending on some of the production from some of the outer pieces so pick one to trade Gary Payton II or Moses Moody join the conversation down in the comment section we always like hearing from dub
