Why Do Wizards Fans Not Want Zaccharie Risacher?

[Music] you’ve been watching Wizards Twitter and um I can’t believe we’re going to do a set a segment totally based off Twitter but go ahead Lenell it’s not even that we’re doing a segment off Twitter it’s just like I there will be good basketball information this segment but I it’s more of like a disclaimer because I know wiard’s Twitter are big fans of the Hoffman shows they should be this is the best basketball knowledge of the DMV here on this program I give you that I didn’t have to pay him to say that you didn’t I that that’s just is what it is that I think that’s like your other wheelhouse you’re really good talking basketball thank you anyways enough jocking you Wizard’s Twitter has come up with this narrative that if Washington selects Zachary rishe they will be standing outside a cap 1 arena with pitchforks and blowtorches trying to set the arena on fire I don’t get how there could be so much disdain and hate towards a player that in reality none of you know anything about because he’s played overseas the past couple of years and he’s 18 and there’s not a lot of info out there on him unless you’re a scout what you all are reading are what other people are evaluating him as I don’t even believe that people have the ability to watch this kid outside of Twitter highlights so I take I take it personally because like and now I’m about to get on my soap box of bluring the lines between being some Twitter analyst and an actual Sports media professional which the line is getting blurred too much and it’s ticking me off it’s actually not that’s that’s actually one of the takeaways that you should come away from this both you Lyell and the audience is actually it’s not the same like some of us get paid to do this and put a professional amount of time in and have access to information and people uh not to say that you’re you can’t be very well informed as a hobbyist but it is different and just because the two tweets show up next to each other on the timeline doesn’t mean that I’ll even put two media professionals against each other and I’ll make one of them me if I tweet something about an NBA draft prospect and Jonathan gavone also does like I will not blame you if you take Jonathan gon’s word for it because that’s his 365 job is doing the NBA draft and I do my best with my basketball knowledge but like yeah they’re they’re not all the same yeah that’s that’s my frustration with that’s a more direct version of the therapy couch that we uh right we need to bring back for you but to actually get to like the Crux of the issu who are who are they going to take I think what what people are scared off with with him is what I kind of alluded to a couple months ago like his his weak point right now at 18 he is not someone that is able to create for himself and others on a consistent basis now if you watch some of the stuff that gon’s put out on him some of the Montage cut-ups and all of that he’s a blur in transition that’s why I don’t this idea of him being a bad athlete like that’s the number one thing that people continue to tweet with why they don’t want him is they say he’s a quote unquote bad athlete he’s 610 yeah he’s 610 and can cover one through four how is he a bad athlete yeah well he’s not an elite athlete and I think this is like this is the struggle with this class is there’s no one that is Elite as a prospect like in terms of traits Alex SAR is the thought of to be number one if you combine like everybody’s Big Board RAR is a lot is number one on a lot of them Steph Castle is number one on on quite a few people’s big boards but none of those guys I I heard um I think it was s Vini from the athletic but it might have been oconor from the ringer um but like they didn’t have a tier one or tier 2 Prospect in this draft right WB last year was like in tier uh Stratosphere like he was a different guy but like the wanyama LeBron but even down to like Anthony Davis is like tier one in terms of their grade they didn’t have those guys never like last year um you have scoot if for for a lot of people is is a tier one um Brandon Miller is is kind of tier one tier two depending on who you ask there’s no one of that caliber in this draft there’s three four five guys last year that would have been number one potentially this year I think this was from Jeremy woo on there right up on ESPN plus their insiders piece uh that ret in a normal draft class will be a late lottery mid first round guy but because the skill set that he has normally gets drafted in that range right at worst he’s a three and D thinkb think Trey Murphy thei third think you know like if he comes in and gives you he’s Trey Murphy thei third why are any of you upset about that well because you want more out of the second overall pick but that that is to say there there might not be more in this draft I think and I think this this gets down to like what you value as an evaluator and I think this is why this draft is actually really useful to those of us who do cover the team to learn about Will Dawkins and what he wants right because if Dawkins goes re he is telling us that the shooting and the the defensive versatility and the positional size are what he values over the decision making and obviously he needs to continue to improve as a shooter but he had he started his final year in France very very well 46% through from three through 21 games yeah huge slump like two month slump and then finished on a banger which is why he’s at the number one pick right now right and so he finished really strong and the question is can do you feel better about taking someone like Alex SAR or Steph castle and fixing their shooting or someone like RAR putting the ball in his hands more and seeing what happens from a decision-making standpoint I can make an argument for either I’m very uncomfortable with the second overall pick taking someone that that that would be the pick that kind of frustrates kingan kingan I think has his his flaws as well they all do but like with RAR the reason I would be like I personally would lead either Castle or SAR is because I think like if we rolled out the ball at a pickup game right someone’s going to go and be like I’m the point guard I’m taking the ball I’m making the decisions and like I want that guy I want the guy who’s got the feel for the game and the confidence to be like the offense runs even if I’m just bringing the ball up the floor and giving it to someone and letting them go to work I want to make that decision of who’s going to work and RAR is rear is going to be the guy who runs into the corner and is like I’m ready to shoot Jack and then I’m going to play great defense and I’m going to get out in transition and he might lead the team in scoring in the pickup game but you know we know who controlled the game and I and I think that if you can get a guy who can control the game to some level SAR would obviously do it differently than a guy like Castle who’s a point guard and Castle doesn’t seem to be in the mix of two at all because none of the top draft people have him in the mix uh as being linked to Washington but then again nobody actually like will doesn’t talk to anyone and that’s I think is the most interesting not about an information vacuum but that that to me is the thing with the where I’m like I get not liking him or not wanting him but also if he turns into a truly elite elite guy one I mean yeah like I’m I’m not and also like I have such trust in Will Dawkins that I’m like yeah if he says that he’s good and he’s worth it then like I’m not going to argue now I think they’re how they view Jordan P I think is going to impact their draft decisions all throughout because he I I think he is that guy that I would trust to be the decision maker to get us lined up like that I think he is a true point guard in terms of what we saw what was it the final 36 last year yeah he looked so much more comfortable and the decision making was really good too I think he got gets a bad rap for being some selfish player not at all who he is at at multiple double digit assist games during toward the end of the year and I think he’s got the legit ability to like break guys down off the bounce and then make the responsible decision when help comes what I think they truly need and I guess this is where I’m getting misconstrued if Alex SAR is there at two you take it I would probably I if Castle’s not a real option I’m obviously a big castle fan and we’re actually I did a a round table on YouTube the other day with a couple of the top Wizards like bloggers and podcasters and we’re going to air the Steph Castle conversation at six o’clock from that that round T so we’ll talk more about castle there but I watched I actually watched some of these guys this morning um and sawar yeah like he his movement skills for a seven footer are kind of nuts yeah and if they can fix a shot like now we’re talking and I don’t even know how much fixing the shot necessarily needs fixing in terms of like well slow there’s a lot of movement to it tyres halber though correig Tyrese Halbert shot is quick if make okay yeah like there’s there’s what you want in a good shot is and one some of the things I look at is like is is there extra movement because if there’s extra movement that’s more chances for something to go wrong in the shot the good thing is is like he’s going to get an NBA weight room and some of the shots going to become a lot easier extending his range is not going to be hard like I I think it’s very I think there’s good components there but he definitely needs to work it ad he shown it in mid-range like his shot is smoother in mid-range and it’s a little more hitchy when he get out to three okay well now we just got to get you stronger and more comfortable shooting it from three which is something that that with the Player Development staff the way it is like I actually feel like can happen um all right got what’s your what’s your schedule coming up you got overtime uh day two of like 9 in a row so it’s overtime tonight then we’re overtime tomorrow night then we’re I don’t know weekends weekend if turn on turn on the radio and a good chance download that Odyssey app that’s where you can find me turn on the Odyssey app and if if lenell’s not here go to 1067 the fan and and maybe he’s there and if not just wait and it’ll show up there eventually pretty much this is the Hoffman show on the team 980 and the Odyssey app

French star Zaccharie Risacher could be the Washington Wizards pick at #2 overall in Wednesday’s NBA Draft. But it seems like Wizards fans aren’t fond of the 18 year old’s game…at least according to Lynnell Willingham. We debate the merit of Risarcher as a top two pick, and talk about how Wizards fans are treating the long, hard rebuild that the organization is taking on.
