Can anyone explain to me why a statisotcally superioir Tatum did not win the Finals MVP? Is the Commish/League trying to push Brown as their new face?
Tatum was better in the ECF too, but Brown hit that huge shot to tie the Pacers, so I was ok with it. I thought that if Tatum outperformed Brown in the Finals, then they would reward him and keep both superstars happy by each winning hardware for their mantle. Their stats are very similar with Tatum edging Brown in every category, so it's not a huge deal, it just doesn't seem fair. As much as I hate the Csltics I kinda felt bad for JT. He had a hell of a year, has been criticized every year that he doesn't win a ring and when he does and is the best player on the winning team, he gets slighted?

I didn’t watch much of the finals but from what I read is was pretty close, but you only 5 games to go by. If anything maybe because he got passed on for NBA 3rd team but I really didn’t think it was that controversial for him to take FMVP.
But also why not post this in /r/NBA instead of here?
When I was watching it, Brown stood out to be the beat player in the series for Boston. He played on both sides of the ball & made crucial plays when needed. Tatum seemed to get going only when already up and he had a “dud” game compred to brown in game 3 when the series turned. When watching game 1 it almost seemed evident that Brown wanted it more imo.
Most people will say because of Brown’s defense on Luka.
Stats don’t tell the entire story. Brown was the better player overall, even if the stats weren’t saying it. He was more in control, affected the Mavs defense more, was a better defender, and more consistent on offense.
He was the deciding factor of the series. Just like Curry might have been the better player, the best Stat player might not get the most votes
