Marc Stein Report: Mavericks Drafting Bronny James At No. 58? Sign LeBron In 2024 NBA Free Agency?

[Music] and just like that welcome to the off season it’s Dallas Mavericks today by chat Sports Harrison Graham and Jeffrey cooperstein with you the NBA finals are over and the Celtics are Champs but what a riot it was for the Dallas Mavericks uh and we just want to start there coup and I slept this one off and I think uh I’ll speak for myself I think Coupe would say the same though that uh it was a heck of a journey and you guys uh joined us for every step of the way shout out to all the new subscribers shout out to all the longtime subscribers here on the channel the coverage doesn’t stop uh it just changes a little bit so uh we appreciate all of you and uh hopefully uh you woke up today and you know had a little disappointment but overall appreciated this great run but Jump Right In the goal doesn’t change Coupe how do you win a title could bringing in Lebron and his son being an answer now don’t click off this video because uh we’re not just throwing at the wall Mark Stein who’s as connected to the Mavs as any NBA Insider out there is reported in the middle of the finals that the Mavs are interested in drafting Brony if he fell to 58 now he did acknowledge that that would be unlikely but if they’re already showing some level of Interest Coupe that catches my attention who knows maybe they end up with another second round pick if they move off one of these players you never know what could happen so it caught my attention and you know we kind of talked about it last night if you’re looking to close the gap and winning the title kind of sounds crazy but on a one or twoyear deal LeBron may not be the worst option if you could make it work yeah I think it’s definitely a story to monitor I don’t think the Mavs would leak to Mark Stein that they have interest in bronny James for no reason obviously if you’re interested in bronny it’s because you want to have some sort of communication with LeBron down the line so I do think it’s something to monitor I don’t think bronny will be available at 58 I I would give that like a less than 5% chance that he’s there but like you said maybe the Mavs find another Avenue to go get another second round pick and be in the running for him now I will say this Rich Paul obviously who is LeBron and Bron’s agent out of clutch Sports said it’s unlikely he will work out for the Mavs he’s been invited to work out for 10 teams he’s only accepted two thus far and the Lakers and the Suns so he he’s not he’s probably not going to work out for the Mavs but that doesn’t mean that there is an interest on the map side and maybe even on the LeBron Brony side as well yeah and again if you’re Dallas and you’re trying to get LeBron you don’t really care if bronny works out for you like if he’s available you’re going to consider that Avenue and look one thing we know for sure uh when having this conversation is that LeBron Flatout said it I miss being Kyrie’s running mate he loves Luca donic he respects Jason kit a lot who was the top assistant on that Lakers title team in the bubble a few years ago as far as Brony goes there’s no doubt this would be a developmental type of pick like if he became anything in the NBA you’d be happy with it but the goal especially for a team like the Mavericks who just was on the C I don’t want to say on the cuss but made the finals uh and had a chance to win a championship would be to hey we’re in this win now window if we can get LeBron for one two years that’s worth a second round pick investment in our eyes if bronny becomes something down the road that’s icing on the cake that that would kind of be the thought proc I mean the Mavs have used second round picks on worse before they drafted satam sing in 2015 to try who can’t play at all try to go get DeAndre Jordan for those of you that don’t know satam Singh is now a professional wrestler uh so he is not even playing basketball right now look it it I absolutely think it’s worth the investment even if you don’t think Bron is going to be a piece for you down the road uh if means getting LeBron in here I think he still has two pretty solid years left in him and we’ll talk about the LeBron side in a second but as far as bronnie goes I mean I I think the connection is there if you draft him that means you have a better chance at getting LeBron so I do think it’s worth the risk but how much are the Mavs willing to pay to do that I guess we’ll have to wait and find out yeah look I think it’s a no- brander if he falls to 58 and this is where you guys can weigh in should the Mavs draft them type D for draft P for pass I it’s almost an automatic trigger pull even if you didn’t end up with LeBron a this is not a very good draft and the chances of getting a legitimate player at 58 aren’t that great um you’re going to sell some jerseys at 58 you’re going to fill them in your uh G fill your some g-league seats and two I mean he’s a good Defender I think he’s got a workable jump shot I think it’s going to take multiple years to develop him and it may not ever work out but I think just at the chance at LeBron at 58 it’s almost an no-brainer now if it’s in the 30 You could argue that’s that’s that’s a questionable investment if you don’t have the security that you’re going to uh land LeBron but I think it 58 it’s almost like there’s basically no risk like at this point in the draft so D for draft P for pass let us know what you guys think we’ll get to the LeBron aspect of this in a moment but we have a sweet Mavs draft hat available draft hat to drop with the draft just eight days away chatsports.com slmd draft I actually like the look of these These are kind of Hit and Miss from year to year uh with these draft hats across these sports but these are pretty sweet if you want to pick one up chatsports.com Mavs draft all right again coupe the real prize would be getting LeBron and you know these rumors have kind of circulated off and on for a couple of years and you know I think we’ve kind of gone back and forth like it’s hard to say no to LeBron but you know it comes with a certain level of distraction circus you know coaches don’t last long long term but I think at his point in his career he’s kind of year toe at this point so I mean if you were to sign him it would probably be a one plus one so even if it didn’t work out next season you know it’s not like it kills your franchise moving forward the guy is still a hell of a player I mean I think he’s still a top 15 player in this league and you know I think you could still argue top 10 and at most you would need him to be your number two or even your number three I don’t think the pecking order really matters it would be the big three of Luca Kyrie and LeBron all three of which seem to like and respect each other at this point so uh listen I I think after what we just saw in the finals there’s clearly still a gap between yourself and the best team in the NBA I don’t think Dallas can afford to just kind of rest on its Laurels and uh run back the same team with at least at least trying uh to look for different Avenues and I think LeBron there’s at least a chance there due to the relationships in place and I also want to make this clear if LeBron wants to be in Dallas next season he will be I mean there’s complicated salary cap gymnastics that Nico Harrison uh will have to kind of figure out and maybe we’ll talk about some of those in just a moment but if LeBron it wanted to be a Maverick and if bronny was here LeBron will be a Maverick I want to make that very clear I don’t think the Mavs would pass up on the chance to get LeBron if they were offered it so there’s that but also I mean I do think the maps have kind of the pieces in place to have a legit shot at signing him we talked about the relationship with dant and kid he knows Nico Harrison with his time Nike um the Mavs are a win now team they just won the Western Conference and they’re trying to you maximize their window here and if they get Brony James whether it’s at 58 or they trade up to get him or what not I I do believe the Mavs are one of the maybe five or less teams in the NBA that have a chance to sign LeBron this and look when you’re talking about those roster gymnastics moving things around like obviously they’d have to shed a few contracts but LeBron can opt out of his player option that he has with the Lakers which most expect him to do and if he wants to be here bad enough he can take a little less now he’s not going to sign for like the mid-level exception or something like that but he might sign for $30 million instead of 40 plus like that that’s a possibility if he really wants to be here bad enough um if you were to pull this off uh Luca Kyrie LeBron Washington and Lively is probably your starting five you’re probably shedding uh a guy like Tim Hardaway Jr and Max AA you’re probably not bringing back Derrick Jones Jr unless he wants to play for the taxpayer mid level which I think Tim McMahon said is about 5.2 million so I mean maybe he’d do that for one year if he really likes it here but I got to think teams are going to offer him full mid levels out on the open market but if you can get LeBron uh I love Derek Jones but hey thanks for the season we’re going to take our chances with LeBron here and and like you said I mean I think Derrick Jones deserves more than that taxpayer midlevel he kind of had a renissance in his career with the Mavericks this year he was a really big part of this team get getting to the finals and I do think he’s in for a decent payday whether that’s the full mid level which is around 13 million a season or if it’s you know a little less a little more than that but I do think he’s going to get more uh than what the maps could afford basically if they were to go after LeBron it kind of reminds me of alram minu where like I remember all the talk was like Dallas really wants him back but then Portland threw him like 10 million a year four for 28 and uh which at the time was like now what Jones get a 13 a year and look I’m willing to give that to Jones I I’m just saying if you explore and ultimately somehow pull off this LeBron Avenue you’re probably losing Derrick Jones and hey I’m willing to make that sacrifice I’m the Dallas man and I I think that this is the question you have to ask yourself and I I think it’s pretty much an no-brainer you would be sacrificing Derrick Jones Elite defense for LeBron’s offense LeBron doesn’t play a whole lot of Defense anymore but if you’re getting that third option uh in LeBron on the offensive end that open up opens up the floor that much more I do think the trade-off is worth it uh like we said loved what Derrick Jones has done for this Mavs team but if you have the chance to acquire I think the second greatest player to ever play this game you probably do it and let’s be honest what was the issue uh in the finals for the most part for Dallas they couldn’t score they they they were held under 100 points in all four of their losses now you know in a vacuum a Luca and Kyrie offense is going to score against most teams but clearly it was an issue against Boston and I don’t think you operate necessarily your entire offseason to beat Boston you’re going to have to get through a Western Conference it’s going to be a gauntlet but chances are if you’re going to win a title at least next year probably going to have to go through Boston eventually because I think they’re the clear favorites in the Eastern Conference once again especially if they bring back Derek white which I think they’re going to go into the major tax money to do so why wouldn’t they so yeah I think they will as well they’re going to be a second apron team and do everything they can to try to keep this thing rolling so you you got to find a way to get closer to them and close that Gap that’s the name of the game now for the Mavericks for sure and LeBron James certainly helps you do that even at his Advanced age who would you rather have LBJ for LeBron DJJ for Derek Jones Jr I love Derek Jones I appreciate everything he did this year I want him back but if it’s one or the other it’s it’s a no-brainer we did this poll on our community tab as well and I think it was an overwhelming almost 70% of you said you would take LeBron James on the Mavericks and I I obviously would too it would be a fantastic thing to see and it would be an absolute circus of a season if LeBron came to Dallas so we’ll see what happens I if I had to put it right now I’d say it’s 10% chance of happening which is maybe higher than it was in the past so we’ll have to see 10% is like a real chance so we’ll see what happens here’s what’s coming up soon on the channel we’ll get into a Mavs perfect offseason maybe getting LeBron will be on that video take a look at some draft targets at the number 58 pick as uh the draft is just over a week away I think we do need to assess what can Dallas do to get over the hump against Boston if they get that opportunity next year cover the latest news and rumors as they drop free agency Buzz all that stuff so subscribe join the offseason coverage we’re not going anywhere again thank you so much for joining us in the playoff run C and I had a blast we’ll see you guys tomorrow peace [Music]

The 2024 NBA offseason is here after the Dallas Mavericks were defeated in the 2024 NBA Finals by the Boston Celtics in 5 games. How can the Mavericks get back to the NBA Finals? Mavericks rumors in the NBA offseason start with LeBron James and Bronny James, with NBA insider Marc Stein reporting that Mavs GM Nico Harrison would have interest in drafting Bronny if he was available. The Mavericks have the 58th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, which is the final pick. If the Mavs do get Bronny, that opens the door to sign LeBron James in 2024 NBA Free Agency or make a LeBron trade, giving Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving a third scorer to play with. But would the Mavs risk losing Derrick Jones Jr. in NBA Free agency to get LeBron? We discuss on the latest episode of Mavericks Today!

  1. IF HE’S AVAILABLE… Should the Mavs draft Bronny at 58 overall? D for Draft, P for Pass

  2. Mavs did great this year and they played the most games this season among all the NBA teams time to rest and reset

  3. The problem with bringing in LeBron is that your team becomes his team. There's a reason he has the nickname "LeGM" for a reason

He underminds your coach and GM, trades for players that he likes instead of players that fit your team needs, I mean do we really want that headache here?

  4. Nico prove last draft he is NBA draft magician… I must be honest I think Mavs will somehow get some pick at least end of 1st round I am sure Nico ha some target there. Mavs can go million directions now… They can sign and trade Djones, trade Tim, Kleber one of options could also be Kyre…. you neve know maybe LAL want him even more now and I am sure LAL are not only one…

  5. LeBron is a great scorer who can create his own shot, an incredible competitor, etc. But he's a poor defender.
So, basically, he would be a third clone of what you already have in Luka-Kyrie.
You will all laugh, but DJJ (or a FA version with a better jump shot) helps us more than LeBron will.

  6. I just became a Mavs fan cuz LeBron joined my Lakers. Please for the love of God no don't even entertain this disgusting possibility.

  7. What happens when LBJ wants his son to play? His son will be a detriment to this team and isn't good enough to help us win. If his last name wasn't James, I doubt he would even make it to the NBA.

  8. if they had won the chip no problem…. but can you imagine if Luka wins his first chip with Lebron on the team , they all gonna say Luka won because of Lebron James .

  9. Lebron needs to come in here be the 6th man and rarely share the court with Luka and sign for 15 a year… keep DJJ, flush THJ, Maxi and other overpaid role players…
Fill the roster out with vet minimum ring chasers that wanna be on Lebron’s Bench team…
