[Sidery] The Mavericks are shopping Tim Hardaway Jr. in hopes of finding a rotational upgrade.

Hardaway, who will be on a $16.2 million expiring contract, was phased out of Dallas’ rotation in the playoffs.

Wonder if this is a classic example where a team either trades a decent asset to get off the player's contract or they take back a longer but smaller AAV deal in order to facilitate a trade.

Charlotte, Detroit could be teams that fit the bill for this type of trade.

Man had 5 3PM made in a quarter, why would they trade him? /s

  2. If anyone would like to trade my 10 dollar bill for a 20 dollar bill, I’d be open to that.

  3. Mavericks offer: guy who is unplayable

    Mavericks receive: rotation player

Mavs want Jerami Grant, Portland wants Mavs to have Jerami Grant. Is there a third team that takes THJ and makes it work?

  5. Carcrusher3

Combo salary for Jerami Grant makes way too much sense.

  6. PeanutButterOtter

Calling it now, Mavs get more in return for THJ than the Bulls got for Caruso.

  7. TastyRainbows

haven’t they been trying for the past few years lol

  8. He’ll always have that Game 4 in the finals. I now understand the frustration of the Mavs fanbase.

I really hope he gets out of whatever his funk was since the all star break. Dude was in 6MOTY conversations, then couldn’t hit a wide open shot to save his life. Great guy though, he basically immediately accepted his bench role like Powell and those two were leading the cheerleading on the bench. Not to mention he’s been shopped the past 2 years on the trade market, and doesn’t seem to let it phase his commitment to the team. He might not be as good as he once was, but is still a phenomenal teammate

THJ for Grant Williams lets goooooo!

  11. Pels got turned down by him and Lonzo, two bullets dodged I guess.

  12. sleepehead

Jordan Clarkson please even if it means we attach some 2nd rounders. No 1sts though

Combine THJ with a pick and another player/asset for Jerami Grant or Bruce Brown

Hardy can take the role of off the bench scorer for Dallas

  14. CheesesteakFiend

We got off Wesley Mathews and got into THJ.

Always was a fan of Tim even when he was on a cold streak. He def was too expensive for his current role and it’s time for him to go but he gave the mavs some good years.

  15. IRanOutOf_Names

He’s now an expiring so he actually does have some value now.

Could the mavs have gotten on the caruso trade? He seemed like the best fit for this team.

so… maybe THJ can return to being a flamethrower on a new team. just doesn’t fit with us right now but he has shown in the past to be potential 6th man of the year. I don’t think he’s a negative value. (please take him)

I think it’s funny that any time a negative player is being shopped the two teams that always brought up as trade partners are the Hornets and Pistons.

I think Deni Avdija might be a name to watch. Salaries match. Price might be lower than more proven commodities. Toolsy in a way that needs better point guard play to unlock his skill set. Washington might want to move on from him to get Coulibaly more minutes.

A name like Jerami Grant feels little pie in the sky.

Mavs won every finals game this man scored in. He’s an impact player for sure. Every team in the league is going to want him.

  21. DependentAd6468

I love that in every thread about a washed star player wanting a big contract, or even an unwanted role player the conclusion from the comments is always the same… Fuck it, lets send them to Detroit.

  22. hyborians

He’s had like what, 3 good seasons in his whole career? Hes terrible.

  23. His brick at the end of game four (?) with nobody within 10 feet of him was hilarious. classic THJ jr

  24. we_hella_believe

$16.2 million for an unplayable rotation guy.

  25. Pizza64427

I mean a lot on teams might wanna get him to move a contract. Mavs will also attack a 1st and maybe Green/Omax.

  26. HardcoreKaraoke

    Good.

Listen, I like Timmy. I appreciate all he has done for the franchise especially when they were down. But him like Maxi and Powell are remnants of a team that wasn’t very good. Kidd has a loyalty to them that hurts the team. Powell didn’t play any significant minutes in the playoffs but THJ and Maxi did and it hurt the team. Even in the series they won the other teams kept coming back when those two were out there (and not injured).

I’m happy for all that those two, DFS, etc. all did for this team for years. But they are contenders now. They can’t waste a roster spot on someone who only provides the occasional offense boost but is incredibly streaky. Green, Exum and Hardy are enough of that.

I feel like non-Mavs fans who only casually watch the team overrate THJ and Maxi more than fans who watch every game. They really aren’t needed in this new regime. Re-signing DJJ and upgrading from THJ and Maxi are the most important moves this offseason.

I just think it’s wild that he was basically there 2nd best player just a few seasons ago. Before Kyrie the Mavs 2nd best player was considered Christian Wood, and the season before that it was Spencer Dinwiddie, then THJ before that. And legit none of those guys are even starters now. And Mavs fans were saying to fire Kidd for not playing Christian Wood more 🤣🤣

And that whole time they had Jalen Brunson lmao
