Boston Celtics News: Celtics Workout 4 Players Prior To 2024 NBA Draft After NBA Finals

[Music] it’s now time to start shifting our Focus to the NBA draft because that’s what the Boston Celtics are doing I heard rumors that Brad Stevens didn’t even sleep after they won Banner 18 he just partied with the team and then went directly into draft workouts that were already scheduled for the next day so that’s what I want to talk about here on Celtics today by chat sports I’m your host Ally Barefoot and there were four players the Celtics worked out for the draft that is next week and we’re going to break down who those players are and just a reminder here this is now going to be a two-day draft the first time they’re actually doing this it normally is just two rounds on the first day but the NBA draft is June 26th and 27th I know I know I know we just won the NBA finals this week and now we got to start thinking about the future of the Boston Celtics franchise but if you guys want Celtics today to go live on June 2 6 and 27th for the NBA draft go on ahe him and hit that sub button from for me you know the boss has said we did great during the watch party and it was great to do all those regular season and playoff games but they did say we needed 25 new subscribers that want to see us go live for the NBA draft go on ahead hit that sub button for me all right let’s go ahead and jump into the one of the players they worked out here out of the four we’re going to be talking about Ryan Dunn no not the Ryan Dunn from Jackass we’re talking about the one from UV ba Ryan dun is actually very popular name here heading into the NBA draft there’s been a lot of great prospects that have come out from Tony Bennett’s coaching style and come out of UVA in the last couple of years and just to give you guys a little summary here introducer Smitt is going to be helping me out here talking about these four players because you got to look he’s 21 years old he’s still technically a sophomore coming out of college 6′ 6 and a half 214 pounds and you can see his stats right there he’s a pretty good role player if you will here for UVA but for that Wing I’m really looking at the rebounds here Smith I know that we can always use a little extra depth when it comes to the wing for the Boston Celtics roster an eight points you know that’s fine it’s going to take some time to learn how to score in the NBA but cleaning the glass just vertical knowing how to rebound I think that’ll translate pretty well to the next level here smid yeah you’re not wrong I mean Ryan dong for a 66 player he kind of fits at Celtic mold right uh Team rebounding guy who can crash the glass he’s not you know harbored down by the paint and and and somebody who uses his size really to get rebounds he’s somebody that uses effort to get rebounds and Ryan Dunn has really talked about in this draft and while he might go you know near the end of the first round some people think he’s the best on ball Defender at the wing position in this draft and for the Celtics whose primary scoring options are at the wing it’s going to be imperative that they don’t let a guy like Ryan dun go because he can defend the positions that Boston is strongest at I Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown I would be absolutely floored if a team a contending team in the Eastern Conference didn’t go out went out and got Ryan D to be there Jason Tatum or Jaylen Brown stopper yes he crashes the boards at a high rate but look at his blocks and steals per game he creates turnovers he creates havoc on the defensive end and I don’t want him on any other team than the Boston Celtics if he’s going to defend at that level that’s what I’m saying too is that yes seven rebounds is phenomenal in college but we know that mainly every player on the boss Celtics starting five can block and they’re really good at steals as well and averaging 1.3 2.3 we know that Joe moua is going to look for those defensive minded type of players because like I said that offense is going to come it may take a little while here in the NBA but we do have the ringer who has the holy book of all NBA draft prospects or at least the top 60 so here’s what Ryan dun’s pluses are according to the ringer he’s a special Defender who disrupts plays in every way that’s what SM and I were talking about here he can shade toward a ball handler then recover to his man before the ball even gets there he has closing speed to run Shooters off the line or block drivers from behind in the paint which I love gives me Derek white Vibes he’s intelligent often blowing up opponent’s plays keep going with his pluses which I love athletic at Rim finisher with solid skills attacking Closeouts in a straight line a knack for running the break and a great feel for cutting in the half court he can use Touch finishes with either hand or put Defenders on a poster but you got to go to the negatives as well and there’s obviously going to be some transition here he’s a limited shooter who lacks any semblance of a mid-range game that’s going to have to change coming into the professional League opponents don’t show him respect when he’s spotting up from three Also may not be the best mold there for the Celtics who love shooting a three ball he bricks open looks and hasn’t shown any better touch from the line unless he makes significant improvements key word is significant again he’ll need to be used closer to the rim or as a screener and in lineups that feature a lot of shooting around him so when you put it like that of course there are going to be some negatives around that a the Celtics can always use more Wing depth and if it is going to be a transition for a while if they do end up taking Ryan D with the 30th pick in the NBA draft it does sound like the Celtics have plenty of offensive resources around him in order to use another Defender Off the Bench like an OA brassette when you put O’Shea brassette in there his main job is offensive rebounds block Steals and defensive rebounds not so much scoring from the three ball if he makes a layup you know that’s great so it sounds like Ryan Dunn is going to have to play with another great shooting team which could be the Celtics offense all right we’re going to break down those next three players in just a few moments but look I got to make sure you guys have the best gear that’s out there and this is the best gear that’s out there NBA champions baby here is your official shirt I already saw one of my friends from college she’s a huge Patriots fan huge Celtics fan I saw her repping this the other day and I think it’s great and I want you guys be able to rep it as well go to chatsports.com NBA champs this is the official Champion shirt that Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown even Brad Stevens was wearing after the game I want you guys to rep it I’ll be repping it Smitty will be repping it don’t be the odd man out chatsports.com NBA champs that’ll get you this shirt right now all right coming in number two here Justin Edwards the wing out of Kentucky you’re going to have kind of the similar type of frame and build like you would the wing from UVA and Ryan Dunn he’s 20 and a half years old a little bit younger and he’s a freshman so he was one of those players that obviously had a fantastic college career in the very short career that he had and now he wants to make that jump 8.8 points per game kind of right up there with dun 3.4 boards per game less than an assist and 48.6 48.6% from the field so his stats really aren’t busting out at me here on the page to and when you look at the full rundown here even his three-point percentage is a lot better but I don’t know if these stats especially with 21 and a half minutes per game is really making me me say you know Brad we got to get this guy yeah I mean Justin Edwards the the problem with this is that he you know he doesn’t have that he hasn’t shown the ceiling of what he can do yet but what the positives as far as Justin Edwards go as far as adding him to the Boston Celtics are the the fact that he is a ball mover he’s he’s selfless with the basketball and and it’s one of those situations where if you look at what the Celtics have it’s a ton of scoring right I mean this guy is somebody you can put drop in the middle of a lineup and and he’s not going to try to take away the shine he’s not going to try to take over basketball games as far as scoring the basketball is he is a high effort Defender he’s an active rebounder active off the ball he’s an active passer so this is a guy who you just throw in the lineup and you can feel confident the offense isn’t going to miss a beat yes is he going to take over the basketball game no but can he knock down two Corner threes and can he move the basketball and and move efficiently off screens then yeah this is a guy you want in your lineup for the Boston Celtics because they don’t need any of that you know high level scoring punch that a lot of other teams in this draft do and you got to remember the Celtics are in a weird position right now and the fact that they’re pretty much going to have their starting five starting six run it back next year and they’re already a pretty young basketball team so if you put a rookie in there he’s going to be able to connect with that younger side of the Celtics so it sounds like you’re getting a facilitator here somebody that can come off the bench maybe in a role of kind of like a spema high Lop type of play where he will come in and like you said he’s a selfless passer he can finish at The Rim he’s going to be that type of player where he’s not going to get the shine but if he puts up two four points in the nine minutes he could possibly play I mean I’m not going to be mad at it and yeah he’s he’s going to be somebody who makes the right basketball play and gives you a 100% effort all the time and I think that’s what the Celtics roster is filled with right now why not add another guy who fits that mold if these two guys have not checked your boxes just yet go on ahead and name a player you want the Celtics to draft next week we still have two more players of Celtics did work out after the NBA Finals that we want to break down but I want to hear from you guys drop a name drop a prospect in the comment section below and let’s talk about it all right we’re going to go ahead and move to akran here Enrique Freeman another Wing as you guys know the Celtics are really kind of leaning more towards adding depth to the wing position this was what they were trying to attack as well by the NBA traded line so I’m not going to be surprised if Brad Stevens Tred to take advantage of this in the NBA Draft so you’re looking at about a 24-year-old coming out of college he stayed all four five years here 6’7 and 1/4s 212 PBS got a good frame good athletic build I mean this is given like Sam Hower Ty type of hype and you see his stats here 18.6 points per game a double double with nearly 13 rebounds nearly two assists and shooting about 60% from the field both we know he plays in the Mac all right with akan so this isn’t the kuy the Uvas the duk so I don’t know I always take that a little bit into play here that it’s just not the same type of schedule and same type of conference not diminishing his skill set whatsoever but when you look at these stats Smith I mean am I wrong to say you know this is not the power five that I necessarily always go to when I look at my college prospects yeah but I I don’t I don’t know if you can really you know not select a guy because he didn’t go to didn’t school but yeah I understand that you know if he went to Kentucky if he went to a Duke he wouldn’t be averaging 19 and 13 but at the same time when he went up against that high level competition in both the NCAA tournament where he put up 21 points and 12 rebounds against one of the the nation’s best big men in Ryan cul brener of kraton that says a lot to me especially when he’s significantly shorter cul brener is above seven foot and you got in Freeman here at 67 grabbing 12 boards over a really strong physical kraton team that says a lot to me and then you know what he what he did in the NBA uh draft combine as well on day two in scrimmages he had 16 points six boards so this guy clearly knows how to put the ball in the cup and he he knows how to get effort for rebounds as well I I I like what I’ve seen from Enrique Freeman um am I the one that’s totally tapped in on his game probably not I didn’t watch every akan Zips game this year but I watched a couple and this guy was clearly the most effective player on the floor and once again these are just workouts this is why they bring them in for workouts ahead of the draft is to really see them in person and he’s not the only team the Celtics that he has worked out with the Cleveland Cavaliers just worked him out the Atlanta Hawks did as well because he’s got the frame and that’s a stat sheet that’s going to get anybody’s looks despite if he played Jo despite if he played NEC or despite if he was a starting five on the Duke basketball team but overall when I look at these three guys I just don’t know if I feel the most confident in somebody like Enrique Freeman to take one of our draft picks here if they do I will see the pros in why Brad Stevens is decided to take him but in my mind I think that when you are going to possibly take that number 30 and number 54 pick I don’t know if Enrique Freeman should be at the top of your list by the time those draft picks roll around but overall I think a workout was definitely worth it and the last player they also worked out with these guys going to be Judah mince the guard from Syracuse you got the orange men here repping in that basketball court so Judah mince his frame is kind of a little bit smaller here but it’s still a good fit for that guard you got 185 6’3 he’s a sophomore about 21 years old and you can see his stats there kind of resembling a little bit like Enrique Freeman but here he plays for Syracuse nearly 20 points per game doesn’t really clean the glass as efficiently as I would like him to but he’s also a guard so you got to realize it’s not his primary role there so when he does Rebound 3.2 rebounds per game I’m seeing a guard that’s going to try to consistently go to the rim and stay in that type of motion but I do like that he’s a facilitator four and a half assists per game and still shooting 44% in the field Smith yeah uh Judah mitz was somebody who pre-nba season pre-ol basketball season last year he was actually viewed as somebody who could go in the top five top 10 of this NBA drafts many people thought he was the most Pro ready guard even last year uh people were thinking that he was going to enter the NBA draft he comes back to Syracuse and you get a new coach there in Adrian ay and I I don’t know Syracuse was a disappointment this year Drew de was at the Forefront front of that but he’s just not an efficient scorer in my opinion 40 44% from the field less than 30% from three and when Syracuse goes to a manto man defense this year after playing the two3 for so long it really kind of exposed judment on defense yes he’s got active hands but I just don’t think he’s the best one-on-one Defender um obviously he’s a primary scoring guard so I somebody to me who is just not my favorite Prospect in this draft I think he’s a little bit overrated compared to most people and here’s what the ringer had to say about Judah min’s advancements his pluses his attributes that are actually attractive here he’s a super crafty player mainly because he needs to be a smaller guard he showcases creativity and and deafness in handling the ball with shot fakes and Savvy counters he could become a staple of highlight reels with slick passes off the dribble using either hand which is great for the Boston Celtics he keeps the ball on a string and limits turnovers but then you got to look at the next nees and minuses struggle shooting from behind the ark just like Smitty said Defenders go under screens when he has the ball and sag off him when he’s spotting up below the rim finisher and traffic who gets eclipsed by lengthy Defenders which you’re going to find several of those in the NBA he heavily relied on drawing fouls in college but he won’t benefit from the same calls in the NBA so this kind of sounded like in terms of the minus is written by the ringer it’s going to sound like he’s going to have a hard transition from that college ball that college type of level of play the speed and even like you said the referee calls to come into the NBA and if you don’t have the efficient score yes I love defense I love defense more than I love offense but you got to kind of have a semblance of offense to touch on that defense and if you’re not making more than 30% from your threes I don’t know if the Celtics are really going to eye him hard when it comes to that late late draft pick but with that being said we’re going to shift back to the NBA finals because I’m still celebrating and we will be celebrating tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. Easter time that’s when the parade is happening in Boston if you guys can’t make it hop on your 1. The things being said about Ryan Dunn are similar to the things said about Jordan Walsh last year..

  2. Judah is a good inside the ark scorer and ok defender i watched him all year as a cuse fan and all he needs to do is develop an outside shot and he could be a solid starter of good backup

  3. Ryan Dunn from jackass lmao your funny for that one lol Allie my wifey always a pleasure watching your vids

  4. Smitty and Allie, come to Boston! We love you guys! Please come to Boston and try to get interviews with the guys or management, we would absolutely love it!!!

  5. All that 4 guys you mention are all 2nd rounder at a mock draft.. How about pacome dadiet, baylor scheierman, daron holmes, johnny furphy that could be available at 30 spot.

  6. Bro we need a young center not a wing all due respect. At least if they have any sense😂. Just think, besides KP, who can we actually start🤷🏽‍♂️, exactly.

  7. We should be trading our picks for better picks in future drafts. Like trading this year's first for a pick in 2026. Celtics will be maxed out after white contract.

  8. I got my eyes on Justin Edwards

I think he would be a very great player. Work on his Percentages at a high level

I think He’s a Great opportunity for the celtics to train him with mentality and physicality

  9. With the aim of back to back i'd entertain the idea of a competent big that plays defense and rebounds, y'all gotta keep Al rested for the playoff run, any player you're considering drafting has talent, but i consider maturity just as important.
