Lakers Hiring Rajon Rondo & Jared Dudley After OFFICIALLY HIRING JJ Reddick? | Lakers Coach Update!

[Music] well guys it finally happened the Lakers have officially hired JJ reic making in the 29th head coach in Laker franchise history and well who knows where he’ll go from here reic might become Steve C 2.0 the good version of him by the way or he might become Steve Nash 2.0 you really never know and I think we’ll Begin by talking about his volatility again he will be another first head coach and you never know how that might pan out he might not become Steve Nash 2.0 but even Darin ham did not work out very well for them either and he was in fact a first-time head coach even one with plenty of assistant coaching experience and I think a big question for reic will be can he control their locker room and not just any regular locker room but one with championship goals and two legitimate star players arguably the highest profile player in the entire league with LeBron who will be entering year number 22 and that will be quite the personality for him to control now I do think it helps that they have a podcast together which I mean I don’t will continue but it should give them a good foundational level of respect for one another and that should be able to help them talk to each other and be able to pan anything out that they might disagree with but that will only be one thing I mean don’t get me wrong being able to control locker room is a big part of being a head coach but I do think his assistant coaching staff will help him with that along Simply Having a veteran team as well though another important part will be will he be able to insal both offense and defense their team I’m really not too worried about the offense part but I am a little bit worried about the defense now you should never combine the way a player played to how they would coach but then again reic did not have a very high defensive mindset and if that would not translate to his coaching ability then I can’t imagine they would be very good on defense as a team again not trying to bring his background as a player to how he would be as a head coach but I do think it might factor in and a good way to counteract that might be the assistant coaches they put around him with at least one of them hopefully having a defensive mindset I think that would be a good way differentiate them moving on here though I think we need to talk about his upside as well and I think the number one thing would have to be obvious knowledge of the game with an incredibly High basketball IQ I mean there is no doubt about re’s ability to make a good game plan or even design a good offense for their team I think that’ll be a givenin I think in general reic will be a lot more creative than daring ham and not only that but I think he will definitely utilize their players a lot better too not only LeBron and Anthony Davis here who they obviously will revolve their offensive round but even guys on the end of their bench like Max Christie who I do think will be a role player next season but even apart from him 1 through 15 I think reic will do a better job at utilizing the skills in their team and not only favoring a few guys on their team they were the 15th rated offense last season right in the middle of the pack which believe it or not was actually the second best during the LeBron Anthony deisa yeah not too great but with reic I do think they should be a pretty good lock to be at least within the top 15 if not even the top 10 whether it be with him instilling a new offense the their team or simply taking advantage of the skills they have on their team a bit better I do think that reic will do a better job than Darin ham in that aspect and it likely will be with a more three-point shooting Focus whether you’re talking about reic as a player or simply the way that he views the game the three-point line is heavily revolved into it and you got to remember to give him the right kind of players to fit what he wants to do on offense they definitely did a three-point shooting Improvement last season but they don’t really have any three-point Sharpshooters on their team I think they got to give JJ reic a legitimate movement shooter on their team team now I know they have not done very well at taking and bandage that kind of skill set in the past but then again they have not had the right head coach for it neither Frank Vogal nor Derham really knew I’d take advantage of it but I think reic definitely would I mean he literally was a movement shooter back when he played and if you want somebody to take advantage of that skill set then a former one himself would be a pretty good option though in general I think he will help their offense overall Shams talked about him taking advantage of Anthony Davis more while being able to alleviate the ball handling burden play LeBron and if he could find a way to do that then that would definitely help their offense whether it would be involvement a more Austin rebs another ball handler in general or whatever it might be that would obviously go a long way in helping their offense overall here though I think it’ll come down to a few things number one being to put a good coaching staff around him that includes one two or even three former head coaches JB Baker staff will be at the top of my list now former head coach for Cleveland I think he would bring a more defensive mindset to their team and I do think that reic needs at least one coach with that kind of mindset another option and probably the favorite one for Anthony Davis would be James bgo and it would be ideal if he does not get hired by Detroit or Cleveland which unfortunately is fairly likely to happen other former head coaching options could be Kenny ainson Terry STS or maybe even a former college coach like J Wright though I don’t really find that one very likely but simply put I think they need head coaching background to put beside JJ reic guys that can help prepare him for that kind of stuff things that only former head coaches can truly expect though a part of that will be are the Lakers willing to spend money reports have indicated that they are but now it’s time to put their money where their mouth is I mean the better the NBA background the more money you will take to hire that kind of Coach they likely will save money with JJ reic but it will be expensive to hire a guy like JB bicker sta for example again anybody with a good coaching background head coach or not will take more money to sign and especially if we’re talking about trying to pry them away from a different team I mean whether we’re talking about Sam Cassell with a good coaching background or even Jared Dudley with a limited coaching background it will take more money to pry them away though with them saving money on the contract they gave to JJ reic which reportedly is a 4-year contract worth about 8 million per year they now need to utilize that save money in a high level assistant staff Rim find both a good lead assistant for him which again might be a guy like JB bigger staff or James bgo but then fill out the staff with good coaches around him as well ones that are not only good fitting for him that will share his offensive mindset but then ones that will differentiate from him as well bringing more defensive mindset to their team but then to fill out the remainder of their staff that’s when they could look to guys like Jared Dudley and ran Rondo and according to Sham shirana Rajan Rondo jar Dudley and Scott Brooks are among the candidates for jjic staff all of which are pretty good options I mean Scott Brooks would be that former head coaching option though he would not be my favorite and then ran Rondo and jir dudy would have ties to their team both with LeBron and Anthony Davis long with their franchise in general and I think that familiarity could be a good thing for the final takeaways here though I think JG re is an incredibly highrisk High reward kind of coach of them arguably the highest risk High reward one they could have found and in my opinion the staff around him is arguably even more important than reic himself they need plenty of head coaching background to pair with him that to me will help lower the risk that’ll come with reic and then not to mention how much they can teach him whether it be controlling the locker room or simply the ins and notes of being a head coach reic has a lot to learn and he will have to do it quickly because again they’re not a team team that is willing to wait around 5 years for him to develop they are a team with legitimate Championship aspirations and whether or not they meet that goal they need a head coach that can be the driving force to help them Reach it and that’ll be from everything combined that we talked about including reic being able to control their locker room being able to improve both their offense and defense being relatable being able to take advantage of the skill sets on their team and then Simply Having a good team that fits around him as well overall here though I’m glad that they hired him before the NBA draft and free agency I mean I don’t know how you would enter either of those without having a head coach the guy that would literally be coaching the guys that you pick and with all that being said what do you guys think how do you feel about the lers hiring JJ reick and
