    **The Trading Post**

    ## Washington Wizards

    – **Priority of the offseason:** Maximize potential return of outgoing assets, bring in veteran players to help mentor the young group, survey the trade market for opportunities to take on ā€œbad contractsā€ with sweetener/draft compensation attached.

    – **As of today, WAS has worked out:** Alex Sarr, Zacharie Risacher, and Donovan Clingan who are expected to go in the top three. They have also worked out Matas Buzelis, Stephen Castle, and Cody Williams who are projected to go around pick 5 ā€“ an indication of an openness to trade down, but if Sarr falls to two, I expect he will be the selection.

    – **Kyle Kuzma:** WAS appears to be very open to moving on from Kyle Kuzma for the right price. Resigning him to a very team-friendly contract seemed to set both WAS and Kuz up for a future trade (evidenced by WAS considering Kuzmaā€™s preference when they almost traded him at the deadline). Salaries for the next 3 seasons are $23.5M, $21.5M, and $19.5M – a major component to evaluating Kuzā€™ market value.

    – **Tyus Jones:** Jones, as an unrestricted free agent could easily sign with any of the cap space teams leaving the Wizards with nothing. But one would think that if WAS felt like that were likely, they wouldā€™ve moved him at last yearā€™s deadline. WAS has Jonesā€™ bird rights, meaning that there is a scenario in which they resign him and give him his pay day with a mutual understanding that he could be dealt in the future ā€“ similar to Kuz.

    – **Jordan Poole:** Poole is expected to enter the season being the starting point guard if Jones departs. If Jones stays, Poole will likely go to the bench as the Wizardsā€™ sixth man. As much as I am still a believer in the value of Pooleā€™s skillset, I do not think bringing him off the bench will ever result in a significant increase in his market value. I believe the best thing for WAS to do is to give Poole the starting spot and decide if he can be the PG. If heā€™s not their guy, then they can try and sell other teams on him as a starter rather than a 6ā€™ man owed $95M over the next 3 years.

    – **Dani Avdija:** One of the best contracts in the league, a 4-year, $55M contract that declines in value ($1.8M in 2028). WAS will continue to receive calls on Avdija but after the strides he took last season on both ends of the floor, it would take a massive contract to deal him any time in the near future.

    – **Corey Kispert:** Kispert has taken consistent leaps for WAS and is eligible for a rookie extension ā€“ most likely in the mid-tier range from $11M-$14M annually. Lots of teams will be interested in trading for Kispert.

    – **Bilal Coulibaly:** Coulibaly is held in high regard within the Wizards organization. An impactful two-way player with lots of upside, a high motor, and is considered an important piece for their future.

    – **Moveable salary:** Landry Shamet (2 years, $22M rem. w/ team option in the second yr.), Marvin Bagley III (1 yr., $12.5M), and Richaun Holmes (1 yr., $12.8M) make up $68M in salary. If WAS could shed some of that salary prior to free agency, they could look to overpay a young RFA to pry them away from their current org or bring in some veterans that could help mentor the young group and be shopped at the trade deadline/future trade deadlines to keep an inflow of assets coming. WAS is currently operating as an over-the-cap team and has access to the non-taxpayer MLE ($12.4M) to offer in free agency. If they can shed some of those contracts using any of the 16 second round picks they have, they could have a lot more wiggle room in free agency.

    ### Potential Draft Targets:
    – **Guards:** Stephen Castle, Jaylon Tyson, Bub Carrington, Isaiah Collier
    – **Wings:** Zacharie Risacher, Matas Buzelis, Cody Williams, Terrence Shannon Jr., Kyshawn George, Bobi Klintman, Ryan Dunn
    – **Forwards:** Alex Sarr, Tyler Smith, Yves Missi

    ### Potential FA Targets:
    – **Buddy Hield, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Gary Trent Jr., Markelle Fultz, Saddiq Bey, Obi Toppin, Simone Fontecchio, Isaac Okoro, Lonnie Walker, Jordan Nwora, Jaeā€™Sean Tate, Anthony Melton, Ognjen Dobric, Caleb Martin, Malik Beasley, Keryn Martin Jr., Talen Horton-Tucker, Jaeā€™Sean Tate, Shake Milton, Jeff Green, Haywood Highsmith, Liken Kennard, Doug McDermott, Osam Guna, Chase Audige, Jonathan Kuminga, James Wiseman, Kessler Edwards, Keldon Brown, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Gary Harris, Taig Gibson
