Do the Lakers have REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS for JJ Redick? 🤔 | First Take

what are the Lakers I’m tell you in the last six years with LeBron made the top six once this is their fourth coach the six years before that they didn’t make the playoffs they wenton six years no playoffs LeBron decided to play there ad came ad came because of LeBron okay what would have happened do you think the Lakers would have had a better last six years if LeBron didn’t come there I think that this is the ma he’s probably maximized it I’m just telling you this is not an organization that has a sparkling track record of great decisions why are we assuming that that’s going to change in the short-term future they’ve had moments without question they’ve had moments but if LeBron doesn’t come there what happens to this team the last six years Wendy Wendy I I listen here’s the thing I didn’t I’m not picking them to win the championship all I’m saying is is that when LeBron James went to Los Angeles okay he was with a group of young guys right that really didn’t know how to win okay he end up shipping those young guys out and getting Anthony Davis this is when Anthony Davis signed with clutch Sports and Rich Paul okay Anthony Davis forces his his way out of New Orleans and get to La once those two got together the the expectations were championship of bus okay they got a championship done but every single season do you not think Anthony Davis and LeBron James when they walk into training camp their mind is not winning the NBA champion another NBA championship yes it is Wendy this is why Lebron James was so pissed off at the trade deadline is because he wanted them to make a move because he knew that this roster needed to get better in order for them to make a legitimate push to try to win a championship or at least reach the NBA finals I’m not making this up it’s a reason he wanted the John he says that and he keeps saying that like every two out of three years he feels that way and every every like three years the Lakers go into a coaching search and they get out bid for a coach yeah like this keeps happening this keeps happening why why are we expecting anything to be different it keeps happening because the organization got unrealistic expectations that that and I think for the first time I think the Lakers organization saying per champ that’s not realistic and I think for the first time they actually have realistic expectations with this team this year realistic expectations with this team in terms of what JJ coming in as a first year coach understanding that they got to retool at roster and also understanding that they got to work on some things perk perk I am right there with you I sat on the show when it was breaking news that they got LeBron James then it was breaking news that they got Anthony Davis it’s Blockbuster they’re going to win so many championships I’m right there with you when those two teamed up it was Championship orust but I think to Wendy’s point in UD now it’s like okay after that first one we’ve seen it and it’s not enough so the expectations had to shift and I get that Lakers fans feel that way and maybe Lakers office and maybe Braun and AD but it’s just not what it is unless they make some moves is that fair to say m Molly it is fair to say but what I’m telling you is I played in Boston okay yeah which is called the city of Champions that just won Banner number 18 okay who’s in competition with Boston who’s their robbery it’s the Los Angeles Lakers yeah did you not hear what Wick gr said the other day after the Miami he beat them last year UD was on that team it broke their souls basic basally they had to trade their defensive play of the year because you know what what what with gr spec is saying is we’re not falling short of expectations I know they have a better roster but we have to do our job and make sure we put the necessary pieces around Jason Tatum and jayen brown damn it they did that I agree with Wendy Molly I agree with UD D the Lakers D ralink he has to do his job for us putting the pieces around LeBron and AD but let’s not play crazy here when we talking about LeBron James and Anthony Davis Maron Davis Jr we’re talking about the Lakers competing and winning the title that’s it with a first year coach with no experience perk they got to dumb down them expectations just a little bit just a little bit just a little bit [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause]

On First Take, Brian Windhorst, Kendrick Perkins and Udonis Haslem join Molly Qerim to discuss if JJ Redick’s addition to the Los Angeles Lakers makes the team “Championship or bust?”

  1. I’m sorry but Molly talking annoyed tf out of me although she is speaking facts sorta..just hearing her tho..that’s just me

  2. Windy is right. The lakers only have championship expectations because of Lebron. Lakers are a poverty franchise with a Gucci belt on

  3. If JT and JB with all nbas in their back pocket why can’t a 40 yr out of prime bron get similar help?

  4. The realistic expectation is that JJ should at least do better than what Darvin Ham achieved in his 1st yr coaching the Lakers.

  5. Is JJ going to be the one to get LeBron to play better defense or be able to keep up with the Young Guns in the west? Is going to be the one that all of sudden can convince LBJ to play off the ball more? Good luck with that..we all saw how much smoother the offense runs when he is out a few games ..

  6. Lakers aint better than Nuggets nor Dallas in a seven game series. GS get a big man and another shooter they ahead of LA. Sacramento Kings might even beat them as well with the streak they have over AD and the Lakers. Play in tournament is what they have to look forward too again.

  7. Lakers have been hurt every year since lebron have been there lebron been hurt ever since he been on the Lakers besides when we won why isn’t that mentioned cause it’s the Lakers?

  8. I EXPECT WHEN JJ REDDICK GETS UPSET LIKE HE DID WITH VANESSA LOPES. HE WILL UTTER THOSE WORDS AGAIN

  9. They ain't doing noting with JJ, like him but no. What is going on here, Mark Jackson can't get a job?? This is ridiculous!!

  10. Lake is for marketing and JJ is ny friend i love he being there as celebrity coach okc and wolves will win nba next 50 years😅😅😅

  11. Lakers front office is a joke! JJ Reddick as the coach. There is no excitement behind this guy! 😅😅😅

  12. Do the Lakers won the championship this year? They just didn't have the and they could have ran a lean triangle in the post and got the other 10 in foul trouble but that's not. They were taught this year with that sorry coach

  13. Lakers should've kept that young core together that they had in 2018 when Lebron got to Los Angeles. Traded away their future for 1 Micky Mouse Championship in the Bubble in 2020. Lebron hasn't been back to the Finals since leaving the Bubble. Anthony Davis healthy is up and down every season. That Lakers team that had Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle, Larry Nance Jr, Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Clarkson might of won allot of games those seasons they were together in L.A. They were going to get better in the upcoming seasons if they staid together. Would still have a young team to compete with the Top 4 Teams in the West. Julius Randle became an All-Star in New York. Brandon Ingram became an All-Star in New Orleans, Larry Nance Jr is a viable bench player for the New Orleans Pelicans that can get you 15 to 20 points a game.

Lakers just got impatient with the process of growing the young talent they had.

  14. I love how perk just laid out how lebron manipulated/ colluded to get AD to the lakers as just a matter of fact

  15. First Take and ESPN should be routing for JJ. This other show is trying to slander JJ when he hasn't started coaching the Lakers yet.

  16. Reddick would be better off in Detroit, where he can learn along with the young players he would have. Instead, he went for the prestige and low job security.

  17. same narratives different yr. when is LEzesty ramone shames goin 2 hang his washed up cleats up? we are sic an tired of this rainbow banana boat buddi an his LEgoons.

  18. Did he see that team before ? Without doubt they would have Randle left because of him u keep those guys who knows

  19. Perk 1000% Right. Darvin Ham got them to the Western conference finals, won more games this year, and won the in season tournament. If getting to the playoffs is there only expectation, he should be still coaching there.
