[TMZSports] We reached out to Redick’s camp for a response to the claim … and they completely shut it down. “No, it never happened,” a spokesperson tells TMZ Sports.

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick is flat-out denying he called a woman the N-word while a member of the Duke men's basketball team … saying the interaction simply never happened.

Halleemah Nash — an author, speaker, and Duke alum — dropped the bombshell allegation on social media on Tuesday … claiming, "I've only been called the N word to my face by a white man once in my life and it was on the campus of Duke University while I was doing work with the basketball team .And today he was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world."

Redick — a former college basketball superstar at Duke and 15-year NBA veteran — was introduced as the 29th head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday.

The allegation was posted on Nash's account at 9:10 AM on Tuesday … and, as of the time of this post, was viewed 10 million times.

We reached out to Redick's camp for a response to the claim … and they completely shut it down.

"No, it never happened," a spokesperson tells TMZ Sports.

What are they gonna say? “Oh yeah that definitely happened. Sorry JJ isn’t the angel y’all think he is”

    Like no shit

  2. mMounirM

lol they *actually* reached out to him.

what did they think he was gonna say????

just to put this article out

  3. KaiserKaiba

So is this just in limbo right now given it’s now publicly a He said-She said?

  4. LeMickeyMice

    >your honor she asked me who was in Paris

  5. CP3sHamstring

Never heard this one before. Was there any record of this being brought up in the past?

  6. IcyMission3

Even if it happened what’s the NBA/Lakers gonna do, there are coaches in the league with domestic violence cases

  7. DanM142

Did they ask him about Reddick’s thoughts on dinosaurs?

  8. Accurate-Albatross34

Pretty sure nothing will ever come of this, she can’t possibly proves he said it, he can’t possibly prove he didn’t. Nothing else to say really.

  9. NBAball05

Why didn’t she bring this up when he was playing…?

  10. Clydey2Times

Redick becomes head coach of the Lakers and all of a sudden she needs to get this off her chest? Right.

  11. gtahnyo

Who knows one way or another it was so long ago.

Just don’t ask him to do a video for Chinese fans and there shouldn’t be any trouble.

  12. Relevant_Gold4912

Jj said he didn’t give a fuck

  13. KUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUZ

    Im calling bullshit.

She had all the time in the world while he was at duke, while he was drafted, his entire career, his VERY public stint on ESPN as a commentator, and its only now that hes the Laker head coach that she remembers being called that?

    bruh.

And Im actually a black man who is very hypersensitive to this kind of bullshit. There are a lot of trash people out there that like saying this kind of shit out of pocket and I hope they get the justice coming for them, but Im not too sure that I believe this one. He played in a league that is predominantly black and no one even got a whiff of him being racist? Trust me, even though I know some white people try to hide it, after 15 years he would slip in some way

  14. xyouRABitchx

Jj should have said that he that she was Steve Kerr’s son

  15. DontBanMe_IWasJoking

“no it never happened” bro just used two n words in one sentence

  16. veksone

And she waited to just now to announce this?

  17. THEREWILLBECAK3

    “Hey did you do this?

    “Nah bro”

    “K”

  18. Pumpoozle

I bet some other white dude said it and she thought it was JJ Redick

If TMZ is posting this instead of paying someone to get a vid or something more substantial, at best its a he said she said without anything meaningful. If more people come out to corrobarate the story, that can add credibility but like, its very hard to ever prove something like this happened. Its also not fair to judge someone as doing something just based off one accusation without anything to support the claims.

  20. Sweaty-Ad-6018

Of course you hold on to this accusation until he becomes head coach of the lakers. Not a daily talking head on network television.

  21. Hand_of_Doom1970

What was the supposed context? He just randomly yelled the slur at her as she walked to her class?

  22. Juice_On_Fire

It’s funny how she didn’t care until he became a head coach lol.

  23. IceJeyD

No offense but if the likes of Kidd (wife beater and asshole), Billups (rapist), Udoka (sexual predator), Mazzulla (girlfriend choker and public urine merchant), and Spo (groomer) are still coaching in the league, then Redick will be fine.

Tbf tho, you learn a lot after a long time and I hope that JJ is constantly improving as a human, while the woman can find peace.

  24. christopherDdouglas

So 20 years after this happened, she took the opportunity to bring up the most unverifiable situation.

Whatever lady. True or not, your timing is sus.

  25. dBlock845

Why is this only coming out now? Dude has been a decently known NBA player for over a decade and was on TV basically everyday on ESPN the past couple years.

  26. stinkmeaner92

The person who tweeted this also tweeted that they miss everything about Kobe today.

They couldn’t pick a player they miss who doesn’t have very public rape allegations?

Doesn’t exactly make the accusation easier to believe.

  27. hyperd0uche

He was just answering the trivia question “people who annoy you.”

  28. CodyCryBabies69

should have said i dont give a fuck lol

  29. motherseffinjones

This guy had been a public figure for years now and this is the time to bring it out. I am a little skeptical just being 100

  30. PTRBoyz

Guy had a long nba career, was on tv for the year, has a successful podcast, but now you decide to say something?

  31. AthosTheMusketeer29

My thing is,whether true or not,why wait till now to bring this out when there’s been many opportunities to bring this to light.

  32. maethlin

I expect this to be a calm and reasonable thread with no controversy at all and measured takes.
