Bobby Marks’ FULL REACTION to Mikal Bridges being traded to the New York Knicks | NBA on ESPN

all right a happy Tuesday Eve the uh before the night of the draft we thought everything was going to be quiet in uh Brooklyn where I am and certainly in the burough of Manhattan across the bridge and we have the first Nets Nick trade since 1983 I am taping this on my phone because we have so much information I can’t do it on the computer and be able to talk so we’re doing a little bit of a sideways um uh angle here so I apologize for the videography I know people complain a lot we need to get you a better background we need to get you a better mic we need to do all these different things I don’t care we’re just putting content out right you put out content you listen we tell you what the deals are and we go from there I’m not looking for semantics and how pretty my background is although I think the Brooklyn Bridge is behind me here so we have the first trade since 90 uh since 83 I am uh stunned that Brooklyn and New York would do a deal um when I was in Brooklyn we never even make called New York to make a deal here uh and certainly when it’s involving your best player here so the ultimate pick package comes back to the Brooklyn Nets when you look at a 2025 27 29 31 unprotected first from uh New York you get a 25 um top four protected first from Milwaukee New Orleans has that if it’s um if it’s 1 to four uh um that is a Whopper I did the total I believe Brooklyn has 16 first round picks through 2031 the other thing that is this is the biggest coup of the of the deal for the Nets here to be and it’s almost like the movie Draft Day with Kevin cooster when he called I think it was Seattle after he traded like four first rounds picks he’s like I want all my pick pack and this is basically what happened so Brooklyn gets back the U the right swap in 2025 and a loaded draft is now eliminated uh they get their own first round pick this is from Houston in 2026 the Rockets get back the rights to swap with Phoenix in 25 they get the Suns first in 27 and possibly the um and we’re waiting on the conditions in 2029 W came out and right off the bat and said yay now they’re loaded to go get Kevin Durant or Devin Booker if one of those guys come be available here I’m sure those and Phoenix love that and stuff but hey that’s that’s that’s the business here this is the business when you struggle and a team like hon now has your picks maybe a year from now Phoenix will be in a situation where Brooklyn is and says you know what we got to trade and get our picks back here so when you look at it from the Net’s perspective my one of the biggest needs for them is like you know what’s your identity what is your identity um you were likely a 25 to 30- win team if you return the same roster um you had no cap space uh you you’re basically your big free agency was going to be U Nick Claxton um that’s that’s where Brooklyn was going I know you have a new coach and I think this sets in motions that Brooklyn is in a quasi rebuild um it’s going to be lean next year but man can you bottom out and get a good player with the 2025 first round pick um and it sets you up to maybe get an impact player and then all of a sudden you go into the summer of 2025 and you are sitting on a mound of cap space youve got Simmons contract coming off you got bogdanovic’s contract coming off uh finny Smith got a player option schruder keep an eye on cam Johnson as maybe the next guy to go got three years left on his contract here but Brooklyn in 20 25 what are we 24 25 26 you got $44 million in salary that’s what you got my friends and you have basically over $100 million if you want to go free agent shopping next offseason we’ll have to look at see what the free agent group is so you loaded up you got your picks you got basically everything that New York could offer um in the deal as far as you know certainly they had nine first round picks available and they traded five of them okay um certainly New York still has their two picks in 24 uh this year 24 and 25 we’ll see what happens the night of the draft they got to be careful with the apron we’re going to go in that into that for minute um they have uh certainly that Detroit pick they have the uh they have that Wizards pick too that’s protected in 2025 here um so I like it for Brooklyn pick a direction and stick to it go in that way as far as getting all your Hey listen Brooklyn’s going to be bad that’s the reality of the Nets are going to be bad they’re going to be in the bottom but now you have you can be bad for a reason you can be bad for a reason and you can hit the tank mode and you can get a top three or top four player you get Cooper flag it’s a win-win you just got to go through the pain this year right now we’ll see what happens BD donovic on an expiring contract his contract gets guaranteed as part of the deal there was $2 million protection for next year1 19 million we will see what else New York is going to have to add as part of the deal um just to make sure that New York does not hard cap them at the $19.5 million hard cap here so a lot of moving pieces here as far as where uh Brooklyn is as where as New York here is here’s the deal with the Knicks I love it excuse me you go all in man you get to a you get to an Eastern Conference semi finals and you can just say you know what we’re content on uh you know we just need to be healthy and I and I I’m I preached continuity I preached roster continuity as far as where they were I preached bring back ogan and Obi which I think you still can do um I preached you know sign Isaiah hartenstein which I don’t think you can now unless you basically move Mitch Mitchell Robinson and get off his money here Bridges has got two years left 233 249 these are two years for you know next year 233 249 he’s extension eligible in um October 1st for you can add another uh two years onto his deal he if you wait 6 months you can add three years for 113 he is on a team team Team friendly contract we’ll see what happens in 2026 Randall’s number will come off um brunson’s new number will come on you have Hart you’ve got Divan chenzo you got MC here so the biggest thing for New York right now so New York’s got as you said they got 24 and 25 on Wednesday night they’ve got that Detroit pick they got that Washington pick there was a pick swap involved there also here the biggest thing for New York now is the second apron as far as and we’re going to see probably more um we’re going to see more salary outed this so New York is not taking back more money as part of this deal here whether it be Jericho Sims I think you could certainly um keep an eye on him as far as being involved he’s got a team option for next year um I think that’s the guy to keep an eye on right now uh we took the precious atua qualifying offer off the table right now where New York is okay let’s just make sure we got everything right here and this doesn’t include Sims getting involved in the deal here where New York is they are at um $140 million that includes the Dante Devan chenzo um um bonuses that count towards the apron you are 39 $ 38.4 million below the um below the the first apron you are 49.1 below the second so let’s act like New York is hard capping themselves at the second apron here um when you pencil in OG for 3536 million that gives you $13 million in flexibility to be able to bring out your Rost put out your Rost build out your roster here um so you’ll be fine as long as you do not take back more money as part of um as part of this deal here I like it for New York bridges uh is not your number one I don’t think he’s your number two but him as your number three on this team that you want to go win it you want to go win and you want to compete for against Boston with all you got Bridges Brunson Hart dant chenzo Randall and anobi you can go to war with that you get yourself a big whether you keep Robinson or you bring at hartenstein you can compete within your with Boston you can win a championship you can get to an NBA Finals with this roster here I think you had to have everything kind of break the right way as far as where they are so I like it for um I like it for New York I like it for um Brooklyn we’ll see what happens with Houston where they get these Phoenix picks back to maybe go out and get one of these guys if they ever come available um but I do like that Brooklyn now has control of their picks I like it for basketball reasons for New York and I think we’ll see take a wait and see approach as far as what happens with um with Phoenix so a lot of moving parts we didn’t talk about trade exceptions and what other is part of that second round picks and stuff like that but we kind of wanted to just talk about um the semantics of the deal um 10 minutes of video as far as what happened thank you for watching on my iPhone go Trojans that’s a story for another day um and we will talk soon [Music]

  1. Im a life long Lakers fan but not a Knicks hater by any means. Good for them. Gives Boston some real competition out east. Fu🦆k the Celtics

  2. Between Anunoby and Hart, who should Knicks bring off the bench? Or should they move Randle to the 5 so they can start both of them with Bridges?

  3. This trade+reduced injuries = Boston shook, i mean the league was already scared of the knicks, after this trade they are downright petrified! LGK!!!!

  4. The Durant trade was for Cameron Johnson + Mikal Bridges + 4 x 1st round picks, AND only happened because Durant forced himself out. By comparison, the Bridges trade is relatively close in terms of proportionality. Additionally, multiple teams were bidding for Bridges, and I am willing to bet that the Knicks needed this trade as insurance in case OG walks.

  5. Great trade for the Nets. Start the tanking/rebuild. Not a Bridges fan, If you're the Knicks you got your guy to replace OG. Yes you paid a kings ransom but shows that you're all in for this season.

  6. A lot of pics traded from the knicks, but I trust Leon Rose's process because when I thought he was wrong, he was right before.

  7. ny dumps robinson, gets another C and another backup pg. Knicks win the chip next season

  8. Nets will win a championship before the knicks . Same thing nets did with Celtics and they got JB&JT.

  9. Good trade on both sides
    1. Nets need to tear it down and start a 2-3 year build and see what they can make of it. 4-5 first round picks will help. Just copy OKC and they should be fine in the east.

2 The Knicks get a guy who does best as a 3rd option and can now be the elite 2 way player that he is beforehand. He showed it in PHX. Can defend multiple positions . Shoot 3s at an over 40 clip. While also being able to give there main scorers relief with random spurts of 25-35 point games.
