Rumors: Is Tyus Jones a possible sign and trade candidate? Troy Weaver hired to the Front Office.

is tus Jones a possible sign and trade candidate for the Wizards we GNA talk about that and other veterans on the roster who could be dealt and Troy Weaver hired to the front office as a senior advisor good or bad move we’re gonna talk about it next on locked on [Music] Wizards you are locked on Wizards your daily Washington Wizards podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team everyday what’s good everybody it’s your boy Brandon Scott again and I appreciate you guys making Lockton Wizards your first listen every single day we are free and available wherever you get your sports uh stop sporting like we want them this to oh my Lord but this summer FanDuel is hooking up all customers with a boost or bonus daily that’s right there’s something for everyone every single day all summer long so all you had to do is visit fanduel.com locked on to get started that was a tongue twisted so man it is my pleasure to introduce you to Alex Ramirez let me tell you about this young man um he started out as a fan in the show then he started you know now he is upand Comer in the W the Wizards content creating Community man so definitely definitely appreciate you coming on man so um real quick before we start man um how long youve been a Wizards fan and who’s your favorite Wizards player favorite Wizards player gotta be um probably John Wall man I had I had his jersey and everything um and I was a Wizards fan since 2015 but I I didn’t really know much about basketball till 2017 16 but I I’ve been a Wizards fan a long time I’m passionate very passionate about the sport um I love I love the wizard man absolutely man same here man so tonight man we’re gonna chop it up about veteran roster moves man is tyus Jones a possible signing TR canid in we’re going talk about landre Shaman and ran Holmes he he could be enacting that player option and then Troy Weaver was hired to the Wizards front office as the new senior advisor so we’re gonna kick it off right um getting into um this article is to Hoops hype so shout out to hoop Hoops hype man lot of good content man and um and we’re looking at three players under the wizard veteran players that is and and and it’s saying that with free agency ning rival NBA executives are modern team the Washington Wizards free agent point guard tyus Jones as a possible sign and Tra candidate now Ty Jones is one of the top free agent point guards on the market as you know um L Shaman is drawing interest trade interest from several teams including the Los Angeles Clippers the Lakers the Mavericks the Jazz the Toronto Raptors and the Orlando Magic and um ran Holmes is expected to exercise his 12.9 million option player option that is for the 2024 2025 season um before we get started real quick u l shamid um one one key thing to kind of look at is he has two years two 22.75 million in non-g guaranteed salary for the next upcoming uh two seasons that is so if the Wizards if he remains with the Wizards um beyond the draft they are learing towards guaranteeing his 11 million contract for this upcoming season so Alex looking at these three um wring guy um veteran guys that we have on the roster which one of the three do you see could remain with the team and why honestly I obviously ran Holmes is gonna stay but I think tyus Jones I think tyus Jones could be a good uh trade guy you know build him up a little bit in terms of the point guard spot uh we already have P which was uh he he got 23 and eight the last 10 games which I really like about P but I think tus if we if we run you know pool still at the bench for you know just the start of the season and we keep tus as that starting point guard we could build up U if we have SAR at the same time too so if we have SAR and uh tus I just think tus will build more value um especially since you know it’s a contract year for him right oh yeah yes sir absolutely M fact no he’s uh he is an unrestricted free agent so okay okay yeah but yeah he can still build value is what I’m saying uh since we got SAR too if if we uh we’re most likely getting him in the draft so yeah okay so you see the Wizards retaining TI Jun I I’ll say this um and and the question I got I guess I got to reframe the question because obviously with him exercising his player options he’s definitely going to be here but uh ran Holmes um very interesting because if you look at the center rotation with Tristan vich second round pick last year um Marvin Bley third who again is on the contract year and ran Holmes and you know that kind of leads into the next question surrounding ran Holmes with him the likelihood of him exercising his player option do you still go after center now looking at Alex SAR yes seven-footer he can play center but he’s best fitted at the power forward position so would you still go out and get a center yeah I would still go out and get a center man I know rwn Holmes is U you know he’s he’s he picked up his player option so that’s obviously going to affect player minutes but Alex SAR is too skilled to just not pick in the draft in my opinion this dude can cover like I said like Victor wenyama you know I I really think he he has that Victor wanyama type of defense and that’s what we need on the squad especially since we didn’t have rebounding or or uh you know interior defense like last year so I I I really think we need that and uh he’s just too good to not take ran Holmes can I I don’t know about his minutes I really don’t know what the Wizards could do about that but I I just I I I say we keep SAR yeah I mean like you said I I long term I see Alex SAR as more of a power forward um but you know he at seven foot he can definitely play the center position but you know I you know looking at ran Holmes looking at Marvin Bley the third they inspiring contracts you don’t have long-term connections to him Beyond this season so you know even if you go get Alex R which you know I’ve mentioned it two three times already within the last couple weeks that it’s looking like we have a really a realistic chance at acquiring him with the number two overall pick so yeah I’m with you you know and another guy that we don’t talk about a lot is TR vich with him and he’s kind of in the same boat as Marvin Bey and ran because you know with him being a second round pick he had a two-year contract so you know yeah the likelihood is the Wizards are going to reassign him long term because I think the stample size is small but he’s shown enough that he could be a nice young piece going forward for the Washington Wizards at the center position um but this is still a kind of a proval year for him you know with hit with this be you know a two-year contract so you know he to a certain degree you know he does have to perform but he’s got a little more leeway than Marvin Begley third and ran Holmes so look at land shamut um a lot of teams are definitely interested it was very surprising that the Wizards didn’t move him at the deadline um you know I mentioned that we need you know Shooters are definitely a commodity in the NBA with this being a perimeter driven League um and L sham you know he’s a sniper but they also show that he’s got a little UPS man cuz he he definitely D on people he was actually ding on people man man look he’s surprised me man because he was going through the lane dunking them folk man I was like I didn’t because you know I I never really watched him till he came to Washington like that so I didn’t know he had that capability but he’s definitely intriguing so I mean l Shaman do you think that there’s still a chance that he could be retained to be that that microwave score Off the Bench I mean I really want him traded you know since it is his contract year he’s obviously going to hoop more so I I I I really think we it’s it’s mandatory we trade this dude um he’s going to take up a a lot of minutes from the people we pick from the draft uh obviously we have two 26 and 51 and I just want to see those guys play like I really want to see somebody in the draft play especially with this rumor coming around that we might get 13 so those guys could be a shooting guard or point guard and I I I don’t like shet taking those minutes up so I definitely say we trade him for draft capital or I don’t know what to a contender wherever he wants to go yeah I’m with you man you know I do like L shamet you know he I think he played quality minutes here but if you look at in um the teams on the list I mean the Clippers the Lakers are always trying to look there always rum to be trading for everybody in the league so that’s not a surprise but you see a lot of nice fits you know I mean the Mavericks the Jazz Raptors so I definitely see him you know two years non guaranteed lot of leeway with his contract because again he’s non- guaranteed but I definitely think he has value and I think he will definitely be dealt so tus Jones I’ll say this you know he came in DC and I kind of said the same thing about Monte Morris I he came in did his job but you know unlike Monte Morris you know he really fit the mold of the the floor general you know looking to distribute first you definitely get other people in more involved now he showed that he could definitely score you know the three-point shot you know the floater but you know looking at a rebuild we could definitely use a point guard like tus Jones a guy who again who’s a floor General who’s looking to get other people involved more but but with his name possibly being tied to a possible signing trade it’s looking like Jordan P AKA jp13 is probably going to be the guy at point guard going forward for at least the uh next couple years so I mean what are your thoughts on uh Jordan P um possibly holding down to starting point guard position well I think that’s that would be amazing man I I really think people are underrating Jordan p as of now um people are telling him that he’s uh the worst contract in the league people everybody’s saying that and I really disagree because um you can’t J judge somebody off of you know when they played off of West unel in my opinion I really think uh West unel wasn’t the best head coach for him and we we just didn’t run the right system when we were playing him with Jordan P so obviously he was going to do worser in terms of uh you know playing that at shooting guard off ball and when he started playing on ball I really saw way more production and and everything just changed up and I I I really like the way he was playing man he looked he looked very solid out there yeah my man jp13 man I I’ll say this um very Roller Coaster season you know um a lot of people were excited him with him coming over from Golden State with the Chris Paul trade and he had his struggles early on and I think a lot of his struggles had to do with him kind of acclimating to his where he’s at in his career you know being in Washington where he went from a team that was a contending team where he was a young guy behind you know veterans man who have been in the league who played together for a long time so you know a lot of these um and you know coming over from you know Golden State to Washington you know a lot lot was was put on his shoulders you know with him and Kyle kman he was kind of looked at as being that leader and so I thought it you know it definitely he needed time for him to kind of acclimate to his situation in DC you see the talent you see the All-Star potential and the biggest thing that I liked about Jordan P was his ability to kind of tune out the outside noise work on his craft you know he took his demotion to the six-man role and he played high quality minutes and then when tyus Jones went down he was able to come in start and played quality basketball at the starting point guard position so you know I think that the key is What speeding the tempo of the offense and people forget the Washington Wizards were number one in Pace last year so they were a team in especially in the SEC in the second half Brian Keith really got the most out of his roster so you know I think that if they push the pace especially you know if you look at what kind of prospects do you want to kind of Target in the draft guys who can move you know I mean alexar is a guy who look he can move man you know a seven-footer he can definitely roll in transition so you know obviously defense and shooting are couple of attributes that we defin going to look at in the draft because we need to get better rebounding we need to get better in defense we need more Shooters but you know transition especially at faster Tempo is the name of the game so um we’re gonna talk about Troy Weaver man he was hired as the new senior advisor for the Wasing wiz’s front office but before we do tonight’s episode is brought to you by fandu so I love sports I love them so much I never want them to stop but as the playoffs wind down we we get fewer games and the sports aren’t sportsing like they want to to but FanDuel lets me keep the sports going whenever I want all I have to do is open the app and dream up bets anytime I’m in the mood the screaming y’all lock supports today brings you C Miss analysis opinions and news streaming 247 on YouTube or the free Amazon Fire TV channels app part of the locked on podcast Network your team every single day all let’s get into it now Troy Weaver that is you know former Detroit Pistons GM Trav that is um is now was now hired as the new senior advisor for the front office of Michael Winger will dawas and Travis schlank so we’re going to look at his background real quick now obviously he spent the last four years as Detroit’s uh general manager but this move this hiring reunites him with Monumental Sports and wizards President Michael Winger and GM Will Dawkins with whom we worked with a decade part of the Oklahoma City Thunders basketball leadership so um question is are you excited about the move and I know that a lot of people are gonna be kind of down about the move because obviously he was former GM of the Detroit Pistons and Detroit hasn’t really performed where they you know should be if you look at their draft picks but I’ll say this before I’ll let you answer um no I’m g go ahead and let you answer um you think it’s a good move or a bad move for him being hired to this front office yeah I really think it’s a good move because I I I trust in our GMS um I I’ve really said this in the past like I I love uh the way you know they build teams and uh I I see what they did with ok so I just have a massive amount of trust for them given their history and I know that you know he obviously came from the Detroit Pistons which wasn’t the best team but um you know I think I think he’ll be all right over here in the Wizards since it’s a whole you know just a very different uh organization especially the St the staff yeah I agree with you man I you know this is a good move and I get it to a certain degree um anybody who’s Ley about the hiring due to the performance of the Detroit p but I would say that I don’t think it’s all on him you know if you look at you know a couple things that happened not too long ago with them firing Monty Williams bring that up Monty Williams was a you know you can’t put all blame on him you know he was just I mean five years five years left on his contract I mean you know and Monty Williams who by the way is from the DMV he’s from the DC area um so definitely shout out to Monty Williams man but you know with five years left on the contract I I I don’t understand because he’s a proven coach he’s a proven commodity in the NBA but I mean the reason I say it’s not all on Troy Weaver because if you look at the draft picks I mean the problem is not so much as drafts in my opinion and you know opinion is different but it’s you know other moves have they supported these young players have they put the proper veteran leadership on the roster for them the floor because K on ham ain’t no scrub like he’s he very well is deserving of the number one overall pick I mean if you look at osar Thompson good pick in my opinion if you look at Jaylen Durant outstanding pick I was high on him and I you know even though we had centers in place I you know I did want Jaylen Duran in that draft you know you you look at other factors you know you know Isaiah Stewart I think is’s a really good player so they got players on the roster man that I think the biggest problem was not putting that veteran leadership there you know you know they had bonovich but MCD donovich has never been known for his leadership capabilities you know what I’m saying so um so I’m with you I think it’s a good move because I’m big on this new front office I think that they’re definitely starting a new era in Wizards basketball you know they got a revamp scouting Department which scouting has always been an issue for the Washington Wizards I mean we have I mean we’ve hit I mean we are not hit but we’ve missed so many draft picks I mean do I really have to remind you about Jan bestley I mean you know you know finally we have a front offense who no not are they scouting the right way they’re developing if you look at Brian Keith and David vanpool you know and they’re definitely goingon to fill out the rest of their staff but development scouting is the name of the game and that’s what you want to hear that’s what you want in a young team like the was Wizards because look we we possibly have three more years of rebuild and we’re going to year two and Troy Weaver is a basketball mind you know so I’m not gonna put everything in Detroit on him and a lot of people are kind of using that you know oh you know I don’t want to hear this because he came from Detroit but I mean n man you know I think that he’s gonna be a really good part of the brain trust in the front office because again all three gentlemen in the front office could be GMS of their own team Michael Winger with you know his resume speakers for himself Travis schlank you know if you look at Atlanta Hawks you know he has a lot to do with that man you good draft history good thank you thank you and if and you know and now that you brought that up look at you know depending on what they do with jte Murray or Trey young they still have a nice Foundation to build on jayen Johnson Kobe buffkin you know what I’m saying so I’m with you Troy Weaver is a good good move in my opinion so um I mean would you would do you think it’s fair to judge him off the Detroit moves what I mean what you think I don’t I don’t really think it is fair because he drafted durren Cade and uh who’s the other one I mentioned jayen iy I’m Jaden iy Jaden iy that’s exactly who I was thinking of I couldn’t get it off the top of my head um jayen Ivy was very good man I really wanted him on the wizard when when he was in trade talks too um yeah so he he got good draft history it’s just I’m sure uh Detroit wasn’t running the the correct system especially with baggley you know how trash he was at Detroit no offense right um baggley did way better over here 47% from three after after he got traded here so so that’s that was amazing of uh of Bagley to do over here and I’m just sure it was it was something wrong over there in Detroit yeah I agree I think it’s I think it’s ownership in my opinion because you don’t fire a veteran head coach like Monty Williams with five years left in the contract so you know I’m with you on that I mean the draft pick speaks for himself I just believe that a lot of it had to do with and you mentioned system you know Marv V third is a proven commod that you know prove an example that in the right system a a change of scenery can benefit a player you know he really changed his game in DC and and I kind of brought this up in previous videos where and I’m going ask you this question real quick you know Marvin Bley third if you look at his age he still fits the timeline so you know with this being kind of a proval year for him if he performs above expectations and really shows that potential of being a former second overall pick coming out of Duke would you extend him I would I mean he does fit the timeline like you said I would I would extend him because um it really depends on how he does if he turns out because when he when when he first came to the Wizards right he was dropping 20 bombs I think maybe even the 30 bomb in there but a lot of points and he was dropping a lot of rebounds too with good three-point numbers if he continues to just keep that up maybe around the above 16 points a game and above eight rebounds obviously we should extend him and and that would be a great move um but if if he’s all right we can also trade him and that would be nice because it is a rebuild and you know I I trust uh our general manager absolutely I have I have all the trust in the world in Will Dawkins man because like I said um I I’ve sat down and I I talked to my um president basketball operations Michael Winger myself and I’m I’m I’m telling you he’s a basketball man I mean this guy knows ball you know these guys know what they’re doing and I mean they’re checking all the boxes for me especially from the perspective of scouting and development because again the Washington Wizards are known for two things the lack of scouting and the lack of development you know and it’s a DC thing in sports period where usually guys leave DC and have better careers and I think that they’re going to change that narrative man you know they’re going to definitely change that narrative in my opinion so I mean look we talked about a lot today man and uh man I definitely appreciate you coming on the show man like I said um upand cominging young Talent man as far as uh conent creator for the watching Wizards man and I I’ll say this before we roll man um you know a guy the name of the real Ed Oliver man gave me a chance man I was a young I wasn’t young man but I because I’m about 40 man but I was a guy who was very raw coming into the gameing podcast man so you know it’s it’s it’s really cool to see now I’m the Elder Statesman as far as this and you know and I’m looking at you a young man who man look heck of a job on your content man and like I said y’all look out for my man Alex man because he is an upper coming and like I said definitely check out his YouTube channel man um because he just put out a video about alexar I’m tell you topnotch content man so again I appreciate your time man and it’s definitely the first of many man so um before we roll man anything you want to plug real quick uh just my YouTube it’s it’s just Alex Ramirez and you can search up my video um Washington the Washington Wizards need to do this I think that’s the title or something but uh yeah Alex remirez and search up the Wizards content I got good content out there I just graduated high school um and you know I feel like I could have done better on the show today man I got a little nervous but uh you know I feel I feel good about um my content though for sure man thank you hey man you know what A wise man once told me that you stand by your content man and like I said your content is dope and I look forward to everything you put out man like I said I am a new subscriber man so I’m definitely looking forward to what you can put out man so again man appreciate you so all right everybody comment below let us know what you’re thinking um which three veteran guys on the roster now will still be on the roster after 1. Appreciate you for having me on the show! I was nervous and I feel a bit iffy about what I said when we were talking about Tyus Jones. it's better we let him go so we can let Poole play point guard!

  2. Jones, Shamet, and Holmes can all go. None are part of the future. Weaver gets credit for being a draft guru but how could he not be one when Detroit always has a high lottery pick? Hard to miss when you're always pick in the top three.

  3. I think most of the vets need to go. There are only so many minutes to go around and the developmental players need those minutes.

  4. Troy Weaver great personnell guy..Monty Willams bad coaching lost him the job..Upper level mangement was stuck on Monty and gave that money bag..

  5. Keep Homles as reseve incase of injury doing the sweason…extend Bagley..soild play..still young..Continuity is imperative to the team at this point..Get what you can for Tyrus,Shamet, and of course JD

  6. Great job with Weaver. Point guard problem solved. Ditch Tyus Jones and sign Killian Hayes 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Seriously, when you’re trying to rebuild fan confidence, wtf would you immediately hire the face of the dumpster fire that is the Detroit Pistons as soon as they send his ass out the door to thunderous fan base applause??!! 😑

  7. Despite how stupid the Weaver hiring was, great job as always on the podcast, Mr. Scott. Always enjoy the content, even if I hate the content of the content haha

  8. Poole gotta work on shot selection too many bad shots if he’s gonna help us win we need him to be better at taking better shots anyone can average 20 when you take 30 shots even Jeremy Lin averaged 20 lol

  9. Brandon, LOVE you, man! Just a suggestion: Let your guest on the show talk more. For example, with a young guest like Alex Ramirez, (which I just met on your shoe, but was quite intrigued with) hearing more of his perspective could boost your viewership with young viewers. Also, you would get credit for bringing to YOUR audience a new and upcoming talent! Just a suggestion; but, still LOVE YOU MAN!!

  10. Great work Brandon you've been killing it lately, and also great job today to the special guest Alex, you were awesome man! Can't wait for tomorrow night baby!!!

  11. Another benefit of resigning Marvin Bagley is having a former 2nd pick who has had a rough road be a mentor for the next 2nd pick in the draft.
