Who Should The Toronto Raptors Pick In The 2024 NBA Draft?

I’ve talked a lot on this channel about the NBA draft and now with it being a day away at the time that I record this it’s officially to talk about who the Raptor should select what’s up everybody it’s JJ buckets I’ve told you what we’re doing today so usual drill make sure you’re leaving a like on the video it really does help the algorithm at a ton subscribe to the channel if you’re new here plus if you plan on doing any responsible sports betting in the near future just make sure to check out my link in the description below all right so the first I’m going to talk about here is a potential trade-up scenario now I feel like it would be disingenuous to talk about the draft tomorrow without talking about the fact that the Raptors could be moving up in it potentially again we’ve seen the reports previously I’ve tossed them on this channel before that the Raptors could be looking to get into the lottery and if they are there should be a couple of guys in my opinion at least that stand out about Above the Rest excuse me in regards to the Raptors first things first I think with the spots that will be available to them via trade I don’t really see like a Donovan kingan or something as like a realistic landing spot uh with the Raptors like I don’t see them going all the way up to like the top four which is where kingan is projected right now he would in theory be a pretty decent fit on this team but just I don’t think the Raptors could feasibly get into a range where they could take him I like him a lot well I like him enough uh I definitely see the appeal although he’s maybe a little overrated in my opinion that being said um he’s off the board I think if the Raptors are getting in they’re getting in somewhere around like 9 through 13 you know like that’s that would be The Sweet Spot of where they’re getting into like the lottery and in that range of the guys that I think are probably still going to be on the board for the Raptors there’s two guys that I think the Raptor should take a swing on there’s rumors that Ron Holland is going to slide on draft night I think Ron Holland honestly doesn’t deserve to dra to slide on draft night I obviously you folks know I have a video of him on this channel I’ve taken a decent amount of looks into him and into his tape into his game I like Ron Holland a lot obviously you want him and you need him to develop a perimeter jump shot you definitely need him to develop a per jump shot that’s the biggest weakness of his game and that’s something that he’s going to need at the NBA level in order to succeed should he add that I think he has a lot of potential in terms of what he can be in the league I think there’s a lot to like about Holland he’s a jump shot away and we’ve seen the Raptors before work with guys like gojan anobi work with guys like Pascal sakam who came in incredibly raw and turned them into just well stars or at least boardline stars in like OG’s case so I would Bank on the Raptor’s history hopefully and I would say Holland could in theory be a good pick if they move up the second guy I’ll throw out there is nicoa topic look I like topic a lot I know there’s concerns with the partial ACL tear I know there’s concerns with the measurements but when you throw in the tape of topit he just has such a great feel for the game you can tell his IQ is just off the charts he’s a great slasher he has a good change of pace game offensively he’s a decent Defender could use a little bit of improvement there but like the size definitely AIDS him in that regard I think he would be a very good ad for the team and I think yeah like if they’re in that range topage is topage topage however you pronounce it it’s another guy that’s expected to slide and if he slides enough that the Raptors can jump up and go get him I really like his fit with the rest of the roster passing ability is Elite and similarly to Holland I think he’s a jumper away from quite like being a great player and in his case specifically I think he’s a jumper away from being the best player in the draft now if we’re talking about 19 I’ll throw a couple names out there as well Isaiah Collier is an interesting prospect there was once a point where he was projected to be as close to the top of this draft as you can imagine some people thought he had a chance to go number one in this draft that’s very obviously not the case at this point he had a rough season at USC but I do think a lot of the issues with him are quite coachable and I think the natural Talent with him is fantastic right like that’s going to be the biggest I guess determining factor in whether or not like a team wants to take a chance on ker is whe whether they believe they can fix the issues in his game because there are very obvious issues in his game he’s going to need coaching that’s for sure that being said I think just some of the things that you can’t teach in terms of his like size strength and driving ability is just so good and I think if you’re the Raptors there obviously is a need at the backup guard position like you need another guard for the rotation and quite frankly for the Raptors you’re a team that can afford to take that time I’ve said it time and time again 2025 should not be a competitive season for the Raptors not saying they can’t compete for like maybe a playin I actually think they could that being said I think they shouldn’t I think 2025 is such a loaded class and I think the Raptor should still be developing right like that’s been the bus word they should still be in development mode and I think this is a guy that can benefit from that develop uh mentality right like he can be afforded to take the time to learn and grow and I think again with the right coaching He’s got potential in this league and I think the Raptors are one of the situations in which quite frankly he can hit a decent amount of his potential as a player cwar is another guy that I actually like a decent bit again a guy I’ve covered on this channel a guy that I’ve watched a decent amount of film on and there’s things that are concerning obviously in terms of the effort levels and such like there’s just times where it looks like he’s not too interested in playing basketball and that is a pretty sizable if not red flag at the very least like a good orange right but for the role in which you’re drafting him into which is going to be like a back of big position I don’t think he’s going to be on the court enough to have those stretches right and that mitigates those concerns a little bit and when it comes to we there’s a lot of natural talents in terms of what he can do offensively I think he’s got a pretty impressive repertoire overall I like the things that we’ve SE seen out of where in his latest season and being able to stretch the court I think there is a universe out there I’m not saying it’s this one but I think there’s a universe out there that he could end up looking like a Miles Turner in a best case scenario uh for him again whether or not that happens is very much so debatable but again that like that’s the best case scenario and I think if you’re the Raptors who are more on more of a long-term timeline and can afford to take their time with these guys that’s that’s not like that’s nice you’ll take that potential now I think a really interesting comp that I feel like I saw somebody throw out in the comments I wish I remember the exact comments but shout out to whoever you are feel free to drop it in this comment section below to remind me but somebody said that he reminds them of Christian Wood and I think that’s really interesting cuz again Christian Wood is a fairly talented player that sometimes you really don’t feel like gives a and I sat there and I’m like yeah honestly that’s a that’s a little on the nose hopefully again like with where like you would really want those issues to be mitigated around the concerns that are had with his game um and the effort levels but overall I think there’s a lot to like about him as a prospect and I don’t think it would hurt the Raptors if they were going to select him at should he still be on the board at 19 and I’ll throw another couple of like quick thoughts here H for the Raptors Tyler Smith I like a decent bit I think 19’s just a little too high to snag him I think if you’re looking to snag a guy like Tyler Smith it honestly might not be a bad route to see if you can trade back a few spots like the Knicks have obviously two picks that you can potentially go get off them if they like somebody at that spot because I think Smith should still be available around like 24 25 there’s a good chance he goes into the second round like I think there’s a lot to like about his game I think he’s a pretty damn decent Prospect um but I think 19 maybe feels just like a little bit of a reach for him um another guy that I think is interesting who might slide on draft night is Jared McCain although the interesting part about that is is Jared McCain is not built in a too dissimilar mold to Emanuel quickley I think you’re going to have two players that do a lot of the same things or like similar things at least on the court I think McCain is a better you know catch and shoot option and a stand still shooter whereas um quickly has a little bit more Talent driving and creating on the ball um or at least in terms of like the projections of where I would imagine McCain would be in the NBA he’s a player I like a lot and I think he’s a really good piece and especially if everything pans out for him like I think there’s a lot to like about his game but it would be really interesting just to have two guards that kind of serve such a similar purpose between quickly and McCain other than that I think the one last name that has to be talked about because it’s it’s the Raptors and it’s going to be an immediate conversation right Zach Edy um personally speaking you guys know I’m not the biggest Zach Ed fan I do think he’s at this point probably going to go somewhere between honestly the boldest predict prediction would be that he goes in the top 10 there’s been rumors that Portland likes him a lot so he might not even be on the board by the time the Raptors are selecting but if he slips out he’s a decent enough name to take a look at look I think there’s a future in which Ed is a productive back big in this league a rotational piece I just really want people temper their expectations in terms of like thinking this guy’s going to be star in the NBA I personally don’t see that and if you do you can drop it in the comment section and tell me why I’m wrong I like it a decent bit I think he can be a rotational piece in the league and I think he can be a good back of big for the Raptors I would just personally prefer if they go in a different route but it’s not the worst route to take if you’re Toronto and that pretty much does it for me what do you folks think let me know your thoughts on who you want want the Raptor selecting tomorrow specifically we’re talking about with the first round pick not the 31st but if there’s a name that you really love at the 31st obviously drop it in the comment section as well the draft is such a fun time of the year and I really look forward to it in particular for the Raptors I am really hoping that they are going to take a long-term approach cuz 2025 I’m like 2024 is an absolutely loaded draft class and I’d like to see the Raptors you know not jump the gun on trying to be a competitive team next year that’s my own personal take if you disagree again you know what to do comment section’s right there yeah that’s uh it’s pretty much going to do it for me folks end of the video so one more time like it if you haven’t already done so really helps me out a ton and I do appreciate when you folks do it subscribe to the channel if you’re new here other than that it’s been JJ buckets it’s been a pleasure and I will see everybody next time [Music]

  1. Just worth mentioning Raptors did workout Ware, Edey and Smith. I'll be hoping for Holland to fall as well though. Missi is my big upside choice, but again did not even workout for Toronto which seems to make it less likely.

  2. Edey is more than a rotation piece. The man is 7'4" and 300 pounds. I don't understand the arguments against him. Why does he need to run out to the 3pt line to defend? Give that duty to someone else. I want to see Edey on the Raptors as an understudy to Poeltl. In 2-3 years, they can switch roles. The kid will have a massive chip on his shoulders with the goal of proving others wrong. That alone should be motivation enough to select him. I hope he is still in the draft at 19 and the Raptors select him.
