back here on the clock presented by Jeep Ron Holland out of the g-league G League ignite 6’8 206 lbs turns 19 next month headed to the Detroit Pistons fifth overall listed as the number one overall recruit in the 2023 class according to 247 sports with his selection it’s the fourth straight season a g-league ignite player is selected in the first round and the second straight season a player from Duncanville Texas shouts to Duncanville Texas players draft in the first round Anthony black drafted sixth overall in 2023 by Orlando and Ron Holland headed to the Detroit Pistons Adam who’s Ron Holland do you like this I Ron Holland was my favorite Prospect in this draft he is an ultra competitive 6 foot seven Wing he’s a highlevel athlete he gets after it on the defens of end of the floor he can get downhill he can score in transition the questions are in regards to his shooting and the high turnover rate the question I have about this pick is the fit in Detroit because nobody can shoot on Detroit that’s not good so the they have to make some more moves we said we didn’t know how TR and Langdon was going to assess the current roster that he inherited Ron Holland doesn’t fit with this roster so you have to think there are more moves coming so I I would go higher but just because the fit is counterintuitive I’m going to go B but I I love Ron Holland is a talent and I give Tran Langdon credit for going against the grain because people said Ron Holland was slipping and that obviously was not the case Avery they don’t have a head coach yet you want to coach this team no I love working for CVS Sports tell him to delete my number I can’t get the words out my boss is watching they got another one of those Mony contracts 65 million to walk away it might not be a bad deal right I’ll my assistant right you’re going to Coach Ron Holland you like this pick for $65 million I know you’re going to coach him well hey I don’t know if you knew this you can go from podcas to coaching the NBA I know that was real that was real big news for my career I thought I’d sort of plateaued a little bit but then I see then I see JJ and now the sky’s the limit again um with Ron Holland I think this is interesting this is the first real like doesn’t line up with the mock draft’s pick of the night but if you’d have looked at a mock draft a year ago it’ looked just fine so all the people like laughing at Detroit right now are forgetting that Ron Holland didn’t disappear he just went and played for a very bad g-league team and shot 24% from 24% from three but a year ago at this time he was considered among the best prospects in this draft and like think said a lot of people had him still rated number one in this draft and he still put up 22 six and three right that’s right so like what would he what would have happen if went to Yukon or Kentucky or Kansas we would be talking about him differently now than we’re talking about him after he played in empty Arenas and didn’t shoot at poor uh didn’t shoot it well so uh I I don’t know that this is what I would have done but I had him as a top eight Prospect in this draft as well and and this is a what makeover situation this is a renovation project with Detroit y the entire front office has been wiped out there still does they don’t have a coach um but I agree with thinkink I I do not like this fit um he I would have preferred if he would have slid back a couple of spots to write a better situation but is the talent is there um had he gone to Yukon we may be comparing him to Jimmy Butler but because of what happened with the G Le in night we may be saying Justice Winslow right so it it can go either way so we’ll see how he develops congratulations you you went in the top five in the NBA I’ve been watching this kid since he was in high school in Dallas because he I used to go watch him practice uh so it’ll be interesting to see how he develops I also know Kate Cottingham uh he needs shooting around him he needs some other players J iyon I mean I’m winning that shooting contest you certainly are I mean it’s not good we are through five picks in the 2024 NBA draft the latest coming off the board Ron Holland II going to Detroit here’s a look at the best available players on the board Donovan King and dton connect Rob Dillingham Nicola topic and Matas buellis perhaps they will hear their names called next in the NBA draft coming up Charlotte on the clock what are they doing with the sixth overall pick that’s next on the clock here on CBS Sports HQ keep it locked presented by Jeep
