who is this guy since i dont follow the draft/players that much

  2. HailKyrie

Oh Bradley Stevens you have done it once again

  3. zgamer200

The Celtics taking Baylor Scheierman makes me think that Brad Stevens believes that Sam Hauser’s next contract is gonna be out of their price range.

  4. InAingeWeTrust

He can shoot and is another connective playmaker. Just keep getting players like that. Love to see it.

  5. The guy looks like an amalgamation of Daniel Theis, Sam Hauser and Jonas Jerebko in one person.

    u/fongos got his next guy

  6. SultanRaikage

    The Ringer’s writeup on him

    Height 6’6.3″

    Weight 202

    Age 23.7

    Wingspan 6’8.3″

    Shades Of: Big Brandin Podziemski

Smooth lefty shooter with deep range and some off-the-dribble skills.

    #PLUSES

    – Versatile shooter who can drain 3s from way beyond the arc using screens, handoffs, and movement within the flow of the offense.

    – Capable ball handler who can attack closeouts using the threat of his jumper with pump fakes to get into pull-ups and floaters. He can also get all the way to the rim for touch finishes high off the glass.

    – Pick-and-roll skills give him additive value. He’s more than just a shooting specialist.

    – High-feel player. He makes timely passes as a connective piece, he’s a willing screener, and he’s a great rebounder for his position.

    – Solid defender who puts in excellent effort and plays attentively. If his athleticism continues to progress, he’ll at least be serviceable.

    #MINUSES

    – He’s not a great athlete. He dunks only when he has space. And he’s limited defensively with heavy feet moving laterally.

    – Logged only 29 blocks in 162 collegiate games and averaged less than one steal per game.

He shot 38.1% from 3 last year on 8.3 attempts per game

Is he going to be the new Hauser if he leaves

  8. raging-ranran

I really like his predraft performance. Just wonder why filipowski fell out of 1st round.

  9. thetruth0102

If Sam gets a huge bag next summer, we got our insurance

  10. Furiously watching Baylor Scheierman highlights atm

  11. AlternativeTea9268

What’s better than Sam Hauser? Two Sam Hausers

Guessing this is the backup plan if we can’t extend Sam. Hope to keep both though

  12. quetambienese

Hes gotta be the Hauser replacement I think

  13. chinesefox97

Looks like we are preparing our Sam Hauser replacement.

  14. Cvspartan

Don’t watch college ball but can’t go wrong with shooting. Although I wonder what Brad is cooking for to help our big situation so we can load manage KP/Al.

  15. I_Set_3_Alarms

This guy won a high school state championship as the starting quarterback? Celtics want winners, he shoots 3s and can defensive rebound apparently.

    I’m in

  16. People looking too much into the pick. He’s an older ready to play shooter. I like it

I’ve watched Scheierman a fair amount in college over the past couple seasons, because I watch a lot of Big East games.

As a 6’6 wing, he is a very good shooter, a smart player who can pass and make good decisions, and an above-average rebounder. He is not a great athlete, and will need to prove he can stay on the floor defensively.

Seeing comparisons to Hauser, which I get. I think Scheierman hasn’t shown himself to be quite that level of a shooter, but compared to Hauser coming out of college, offers more passing/playmaking, and is a better rebounder. Hauser has developed into a good-enough defender, which is a question mark for Scheierman.

Edit: Scheierman’s game also reminds me a little bit of Joe Ingles. Maybe because they’re both white lefties, but also just with the combination of shooting, secondary playmaking, and being somewhat slower-placed. Not sure Scheierman ever gets as good as peak Ingles with the Jazz, but still some stylistic similarities in my mind.

Wanted Filipowski but not too mad with this pick

  19. friendsWthebenedicts

Thinking he gets moved if the tax hit is actually 9 mil here right?

  20. TeblowTime

From watching Creighton in the NCAA Tournament this year, I really like this pick. He was their centerpiece.

  21. austintaco

Creighton season ticket holder here. You guys just got yourself an absolute beast and my favorite player of all time. I married a New Hampshire girl who went to Creighton and loves the Celtics and she’s over the moon. Gonna hop on the bandwagon now if I’m allowed

  22. oldtype09

There’s no way in hell we wouldn’t have traded down unless we *really* liked the guy we were getting at #30. So I feel good about this pick.

  23. billgilly14

As a Creighton and Celtics fan this pleases me

  24. daft_dunkwwwolfey

I mean we need wings can’t do worse than a Hauser insurance at 30

  25. minimumhatred

not a sexy pick, but a smart pick and that’s really what we need. we can take a project in the 2nd round this time us a guy who can spend a year in Maine and be ready in case Hauser is expensive.

  26. Coming from a Georgetown / Big East fan who’s watched a lot of Creighton hoops, this is a terrific pick.

He is one of the best shooters at the draft. Defense is question mark but he is 6’6 with a plus wingspan – not like he’s some small guard that has no chance. He is also a tremendous rebounder for his position, which is indicative of the toughness / intensity he plays with.

    Ecstatic with the pick

  27. DieYuppieScum91

Pretty much exactly the kind of player that fits into Mazzulla’s system. Smart, elite shooter with good length.

Someone posted The Ringer bullets on him, so I’ll post the blurb from Sam Vecenie of The Athletic, who I favor a little more on draft scouting:

    > Scheierman is an intriguing bet as a role player in the NBA with his shooting and comfort as a decision-maker. You get a real floor spacer who can run off movement and knock down shots. He can also attack closeouts and make quick reads. Scheierman is not going to be for everyone, but I bet that teams with schemes that involve a lot of motion and movement will love him. He processes the game very well at speed, even with his athletic deficiencies, and knows how to play within structure and scheme. He’ll make extra passes and will help on the glass, lead fast breaks and then in the half court will help your primary playmakers by being a shooter whom defenders must guard tightly. His defense is the big question. Can he consistently chase and play in help? Can he defend on the ball? It’ll all be about maximizing his frame and body and getting the absolute most out of his quickness. I have a clear first-round grade on him, though, given the importance of shooting at size in today’s NBA.

  29. I like the pick, he was mocked to the Celts a lot and it makes a lot of sense. He just seems like a Brad Stevens type of player. Very good shooter that is also a good passer. Capable of bringing the ball up and running the offense. Has decent size and good on the boards. Balled out during March Madness, too. Could potentially be Hauser’s replacement if they can’t re-sign him. Will make watching summer league fun.

  30. Stercules25

Couldn’t think of a better player to slide in and get minutes on this team right now. Wow what a pick Brad is the GOAT

  31. CantHandlemyPP34

Baylor looks more like a low budget Luka (or better Svi) than a premium Hauser. I actually like his body/speed to guard Luka types. Good shooting, great passing, can actually handle it and grab some boards. Mature, can contribute immediately on offense. Sam was an unheralded spot up shooter with high IQ and above average height.

Defense is going to be his biggest need.
