Jared McCain Selected By Philadelphia 76ers With Pick #16 In First Round Of 2024 NBA Draft

so the pick is in on night one of the 2024 NBA draft for the Philadelphia 76ers and while the Sixers haven’t made big moves via a trade like the Knicks have for Mel Bridges they also brought back OG and anobi on a massive contract extension Philadelphia as of right now held on to the pick and Daryl Mor and Company are taking Duke guard Jared McCain in the middle of this first round very interesting player for Philadelphia and when you watch him he has this charismatic personality vivacious personality an energy level that’s very similar to Tyrese Maxi so for the culture of the Sixers organization which in big games has come up small in playoff series they have choked I think it’s important culturally to bring in a player like this he’s 20 years old freshman at Duke last year so an older freshman there are some concerns about his lack of size and his position at the next level is he going to play point guard is he going to play off ball he’s 62203 frankly I think that Jared McCain can be a hybrid guard at the NBA level he can play on ball or off ball and I like that positional versatility I also think with his game he’s going to be able to play right from the jump great off ball mover with a quick and repeatable jump shot he shot 41% from Deep last year with the Blue Devils and that three-point shot is going to be able to translate too to the NBA level as far as his play strength goes he might be 62 but he’s strong at 62 he also has this quickness combo not as Lightning quick as a Tyrese Maxi but that does enable him to play physically on the defensive side he will get in your grill and doesn’t have a lot of fear in that regard the tweener athletic profile for the guard spot the Sixers are going to have to determine what is he but in today’s position NBA we see that versatility sometimes is a great value and yes if the name sounds familiar Jared McCain does paint his fingernails like Caleb Williams and attending the draft the suit looked good looked as though he had a little v-neck with some gold chains rocking that fresh 76ers draft hat which we’ve shown you here on the show he went with black fingernail paint on his fingernails Philadelphia sports St radio got to have a field day with that here’s what the ringer Kevin oconor had to say about McCain launches jumpers off the dribble with comfort from all ranges and he can fire when moving from either side and into a step back he’s talented selfless passer who runs a composed pick and roll the pick and roll game with Joel embiid We saw how dominant that can be with Tyrese Maxi and Joel embiid how about another option he’s capable of making any pass and does a good job of reading the floor last year with Duke here of the numbers 14 points per game as a freshman he played 31 a half minutes per night good rebounder for his size five rebounds per very active on the defensive then more than a steal per night 46% from the deck and I love how he has no hesitation in letting it fly from distance and when he moves off ball he can kind of play in that Klay Thompson role running off screens drawing out defenses that can open up looks for Tyrese Maxi and Joel embiid he’s a natural playmaker going back to his high school days the comp kind of like uh Wesley Matthews that’s been thrown around a little bit but KOC Kevin o’ Conor shades of somewhere between Steph and Seth Curry and Seth Curry we saw a very very good player for Philadelphia for a couple of years and that dho game the dribble handoff game with MBI proved to be very valuable for Philadelphia so I like this pick I probably would have gone with d connect because I think that you need to get better at the wing spot with Boston winning a title and the New York Knicks loading up at the wing position in what has become an increasingly more difficult to win Eastern Conference but offense wins in today’s NBA you need bucket Getters and Chip Jared McCain is a bucket getter what do you think of the pick your instant reaction your analysis yeah look I love The Pick of Jared McCain we’ve talked about him on the show for a while leading up to the draft the Sixers reportedly had interest in him and I really think one of the Sixers biggest weakness of last season they should have enough guys that could create place for others and create their own shots and it were reliable in knocking down these shots you know we saw them try to trade for a buddy heel someone who could knock it down from the outside never really worked out and it was a lot of times down the stretch of these games relying on Tyrese Maxi or Joel embiid like bail us out go one-on-one get us a bucket because no one else can really do anything with the ball in their hands Jared McCain can be a Ive with or without the ball I like him at with a fit as an offb player so Tyrese Maxi can still run that offense you have to worry about Jared McCain you know taking the ball away from him but a sniper from Deep went to Duke so you know it’s a good culture there and you know with the players that were on the board here like a Dalton connect like a Tristan to Silva I think Jared McCain is a perfect blend of a player that is going to be good enough to play right now but also a player that maybe has a little more upside than some of the players that we talked about like the Silva like adult connect so I’m a big big fan of the pick you know we were a little scared that maybe Miami was going to take him right in front of the Sixers but I think jerem McCain I think he’s going to be a player Sixers fans like because of his game the way he plays the reliability and just that three-point shot which the Sixers have been looking for somebody to knock down a corner three when they’re open for a long time and look Jeremy Kane’s going to be able to do that I love the pick and somebody who can compliment Tyrese Maxi a little bit and I’m not a huge fan of having a championship team led by two small guards I don’t think that’s a great way to build your ball Club I think it is a wing driven League you look at the history of the NBA with players like LeBron James Kobe Bryant Kevin Durant kawii Leonard the list goes on and on and on right it has been a wing driven league with winning titles Jason Tatum Jaylen Brown so when you have two smaller guards that’s a concern but you also have the two small guards with the big in Joel embiid and a lot of people are concerned about the side let’s talk more about that coming up here in a second grade the pick first And subscribe to the channel as we continue to build upon 16,000 subscribers ABC C D or F I know we’re going to get a mixed bag here some people are saying it’s an fck because the Los Angeles Lakers right after Philadelphia took the player who I wanted the Sixers to take and don’t connect and a player who is a wing who when he gets hot can hit shots from anywhere I thought that would have been a better pick than Jared McCain and people are worried about the size let me just talk about the size real quick here so he’s a below the finisher right that doesn’t always play at the NBA level how can you get away with being a below the rim finisher being crafty people said the same thing about Tyrese Maxi said the same thing about Steph Curry Tyrese Maxi can finish around the rim with the speed the explosion the reverse lay being crafty with whatever hand he decides to use going off the off leg hanging in the air being tough at the in Steph Curry in that same way is very Shifty short area quickness gets very creative with how he can finish that’s what Jared McCain’s going to have to do and it might be a little bit of a challenge but when you’re getting some Steph Curry comps and when you’re shooting 41% from three you can play on ball off ball and you’re comfortable with both of those and you stretch the floor Defenders are going to have to face you and with that quickness you can beat him off the dribble which then can lead to mid-range floater game and more open opportunities around the rim so there are ways around that I get the concerns but this a really solid player here as you look ahead and remember Tyrese Maxi was a steal in the 20s back a few years ago it’s altered the course of this franchise imagine where the Sixers would be if they didn’t have tyres Maxi we’re calling a superstar now because he is he’s an Allstar him and Joel embiid great one two punch and there’s still time to figure out this team in free agency for Daryl Mor and Company now the key free agents for Philadelphia Tyrese Max is going to get the max Tobias Saha Kyle Lowry buddy Hill Nick patum Kelly UB all Marquee free agents on the Sixers team Philadelphia in addition to taking McCain at 16 also have a pretty good second round pick where I don’t know if you’re going to get a good Wing there but can you get a good backup center behind Joel mbid that would be ideal Trace Jackson Davis was a second round pick one of the final picks in the draft last year for Golden State he’s been excellent and for Philadelphia I’m disappointed I’m hurt like you by the continued let down from this organization Boston wins a title this year Boston owns Philadelphia in basketball the New York Knicks see the Celtics win a title what do they do trade for my dream free agent Target and Mel Bridges and then they resign ogn and Obie the Sixers I think have gotten lapped by New York where do they stand in the East I get all of these concerns I can be concerned and still be a fan of the player but my goodness can we please get past the second round
