The Detroit Pistons select Ron Holland II with the No. 5 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft | NBA on ESPN

the podium NBA Commissioner Adam Silver let’s go to you with the fifth pick in the 2024 NBA draft the Detroit Pistons select Ron Holland II from Dallas Texas and the NBA G league’s team [Applause] ignite Ron Holland 18 years old but those close to him tell me that he is just wise Beyond his years he averaged nearly 20 points a game for the ignite as Jay mentioned he did sustain a thumb injury in January missed the rest of the season for what he says was precautionary reasons but in his spare time Andrea he enjoys playing the drums last summer he held his first fruits and health Youth Camp in Duncanville High School in Texas and his dad is a chef specialty Cajun Alfredo okay Cajun Alfredo you mentioned he plays the drums so he’s good at a little bit of everything and that’s exactly what ra haran Holland is on the court just under 20 points per game just under seven rebounds per game he gets assists he gets steals when you talk about a franchise that doesn’t yet have a head coach it’s important to get a player that can do it all he can contribute on both ends of the floor his skill set is so versatile so whoever the coach is is going to have a lot to work work with with Ron Holland and he’s just 18 years old he’s an aggressive lengthy Wing that is a driver slasher we mentioned Above the Rim finisher and he’s got a great motor he plays really really hard the one thing he lacks right now is shooting consisteny shot under 30% on all jump shots but he had a really high usage rate with the g-league ignite and he needs to improve his efficiency but he’s got great defensive tools and potential and really projects as a good Defender uh in the NBA Ron Holland the third player taken in the top five from the G League ignite and he was a top recruit coming out of high school and my opinion chose a difficult path going into the G League ignite to play against grown men but his intensity level on both ends of the floor I’ve seen him described as a hyperactive Defender but you mentioned it Jay he’s an aggressive score when he gets going downhill watch his feet they turn over almost like a running back he picks up speed he gains momentum and he attacks the rim relentlessly as he adds strength that’s going to go up even more so Ron [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Holland is

Watch as Ron Holland II out of the G League Ignite gets drafted by the Detroit Pistons with the No. 5 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

  1. It's refreshing to be part of a community where differences are celebrated rather than vilified. It's a breath of fresh air.✨

  2. The Pistons will always be the Pistons. Hahahah. Why this guy? Why not trade down if you’re just picking this guy.

  3. If you look at the Pistons roster, he will be a depth guy with a high ceiling… The Pistons are ridiculously young, and if some of these hit, they will take a leap in this league

  4. Great pick pistons could do it all great rebounder and defender once he work on his jump shot sky’s the limit great potential pick

  5. The Pistons absolutely cannot draft! Another pick that will result in nothing, I’m so done with these fools bro. I luv my pistons but this pick was absolutely ridiculous!

  6. GUYS THE PISTONS CANT’ SHOOT !
Under 30% on all shots !

Come on guys. Man I hope he hits but come on we need shooting !

  7. Pistons big ego new gm drafts the same guy as weaver did last season i bet fontecchio will love this rotation, absolutley no patience in detroits ownership or fanbase, so good luck with it.

  8. 😞 Cade will NEVER have an Elite shooter next to him I guess! But hey we can just throw lobs in a crowded paint at least

  9. When you win only win 14 games . The previous season you have to improve either defensively or in three point shooting. And the biggest upside is holland is only 18 so he can impact the pistons on defense immediately and devolep and improve his three over the next couple of seasons. Realistically if if they took dalton knnecht . That would have barely moved the needle either . So they choose long term development

  10. I don't know about this brother everything they said about him was the same thing said about Thompson last year.

  11. They even got the Eminem music in the background because of Detroit haha, should have had Georgia by Ludacris and Field Mob for the first pick

  12. We were a 14 win team last season so whoever or whatever we pick in this draft class doesn't matter. I'm glad we picked Ron Holland because even if his jump shot doesn't develop in the future he can still be a solid defender like Jared Vanderbilt. Matas is good and probably the best prospect in this class after Topic got injured but he's the biggest boom or bust in this class which will be worthwile but if it works out but can never be a trade asset when he started busting.
What I don't like about this Ron Holland pick though is if we get Cooper Flagg next year, we still don't have shooters that can Cade pass to when he does a pnr. I really wanted Topic and Knecht tbh but Ron Holland is my 3rd choice and Cody Williams being fourth because I don't see Sarr, ZR, Shep and Castle dropping to 5th.
Please for the love of basketball gods…give us at minimum a top 4 pick next yr. No more 5th picks please. 😭

  13. Why would Detroit get a player to delevop they are worse at developing players than a cashier developing photos for the 1st time.

  14. Everyone in the comments are mad about it, the kids 18. No matter who we took, its not like the needles gonna move. Lets go with long term development. He could end up being an all star.
