New York Knicks Pick Pacome Dadiet In Round 1 Of 2024 NBA Draft | Knicks Draft Grades

[Music] with the 25th pick in the 2024 NBA draft the New York Knicks left Pome dier the offensively gifted young potential fied Wing from Germany look there was a lot of talk about what the New York Knicks were going to do on draft night they owned pick 24 they owned pick 25 start today by trading the 24th overall pick to the Washington Wizards which Nets them the 26th pick and then they get the 51st pick in the NBA draft this year so now they own two picks in the second round this is the first pick that you made uh first trade that you made excuse me and then the New York Knicks were back on the clock with the 25th pick and they select Pome dier then back on the clock with pick 26 they send Pi 26 to the Oklahoma City Thunder and they add five second round picks so the Knicks who entered the draft with two first round picks with plenty of talented prospects that could help this team immediately right now leave the draft with Pome dier an 18-year-old that’s supposed to be a draft and stash player to save salary cap space and not one not two not three not four not five but six second round picks nobody hates the NBA draft more than Lon Rose man let’s talk about Pome dier the player a good movement shooter in a limited role look I I I watched the tape on him we did a mock draft on him a couple of weeks ago he has the chance to improve defensively over time as he learns to play more physically he’s got good size and athleticism for the two spot but plays a lot smaller than he should he’s got as an 18-year-old with three level scoring potential he hasn’t shown the playmaking or defensive flashes you’d like to see he’s smart at moving off ball and has physical to tools he can shoot um some people think he’s a bit overrated athletically and uh some people also think he needs to get better on the defensive end he’s 18.9 years old just shy of 6’8 2117 lbs he was ranked as the 35th best Prospect in this draft people think he’s a pull-up threat a good off ball mover a skill shooter off the dribble he’s comfortable pulling up from mid-range whether it’s stopping on a dime or stepping back if he extends his range he could become a major scoring machine good shooting potential off the catch he isn’t a knockdown guy but has smooth form and soft touch on free throws and layups decisive attacker off the dribble with a good first step and burst to turn the corner he’s capable of finishing comfortably either uh with either hands and touch layups or finishing with power when he has room to take it off displays good vision for finding his teammates his IQ shows when moving without the ball he has a feel for getting himself open using relocations around the perimeter and cuts to the rim he’ll pounce on The Mistakes by made by Defenders a long armed wing with a strong wide frame in the upside to defend multiple positions as he matures some minuses too sloppy with the ball he makes inaccurate passes telegraphs the ball to teammates and lacks awareness when Defenders are lurking nearby I also think he’s a year away from being a year away he’s not going to come over and play for the Knicks this Year from what I’ve been told sounds like it’s going to be a draft in stash so the New York Knicks essentially defer the $5 million they would have owed to picks 24 and 25 if they made them to maybe clear up some more cap space below that first apron to where they can go out and resign a guy like Isaiah hartenstein in that you add six second round picks as well look grade the pick it’s a c for me at best I thought there were players out there the New York have decided to punt on the NBA draft once again there were players on the clock that or on the board when Knicks are on the clock that could have helped them right now Tyler kak feels the need of a backup point guard that can carry this offense from time to time when Jaylen Brunson sits down Kyle filipowski is a center that could have given you some diversity at that position that could stretch the floor and knock it down from outside Ryan Dunn a CA client one of the best defenders in this class could have added another guy at 6’8 that gave you versatility on the defensive end and a true Wing Off the Bench which you don’t have you don’t have a wing Off the Bench I know you got anobi and I know you got Bridges but Josh hard 6’4 6’5 on a good day Dante Devan chenzo 6 foot4 like you don’t have that much size you don’t have a backup power forward maybe the New York Knicks are going to fill out their roster through the veteran minimum Market there’s going to be more moves having to come because you don’t want to be hard capped I don’t know what the Knicks are are doing at this current moment I’m sure they’ve got a couple of plans up their sleeve but at this current time it’s a little unclear what the vision is Ian Begley says by trading out of number 26 and stashing Pome dier as it sounds like it’s going to be official not even going to be on the Knicks next year and replacing those picks by rostering two second round picks on rookie minimum Knicks could save a total of roughly $3 million in team salary and it could be more if the two picks you make tomorrow are also draft and stash players and maybe they trade out of the second round and add future second round picks and they could save up to $5.5 million the New York Knicks are a salary cap crunch if they aren’t able to CH change the trade package that’s going to Brooklyn to acquire Mel Bridges you’re going to be hard capped at that first aprint which is going to make it almost impossible to sign Isaiah hartenstein but maybe with these moves they create more cap space and it gives them an ability to resign the big man Nicks really weren’t in a spot to lead this draft with two players that were going to be on the team but man it’s just same song Same dance they’re never going to draft people with Leon Rose and Tom Tibido it seems like this will be the 2022 draft 2023 draft and 2024 draft three drafts in a row the New York Knicks do not have a first round pick play for them [Music] um I get why they’re doing it creating money creating roster flexibility finding a way um to try to increase the likelihood of resigning Isaiah hartenstein so I get that absolutely the only way I think you do this is if you know if you get to a certain number you’re going to be able to resign hartenstein because why are you doing all this and not re and drafting players that could potentially be Replacements at that cheap number we’re going to find out though very very soon they have two picks tomorrow pick 51 and pick 38 do they make a pick and will those picks if they do make them be on the roster next year I mean that’s the question you got to ask at this point will the picks they
