Spurs DRAFT GRADES! Did Brian Wright BLOW IT!? San Antonio Spurs News

well San Antonio Spurs fan so far the 2024 draft has been interesting to say the least giant what is up San Antonio Spurs fans welcome to TSR Sports caught a couple articles that’s right two articles from pounding the rock where they grade the stuff on Castle draft pick and then the Rob Dillingham trade and I want to get into it so let’s let’s just do it s let’s talk about Stefan Castle they gave the draft an a for taking at Fourth Castle is a big guard Wing hybrid at 6’6 he’s a good athlete with the strength to guard multiple positions his defense and competitiveness are his biggest strengths he hounded opposing guards all season was able to hold his own when he switched on to bigger players he’s disruptive at the point of attack easily navigating screens and moving his feet to stay in front of ball handlers his length tells him contest shots in the perimeter and clog up passing Lanes Castle and Jeremy San will give them a give the Spurs a formidable defensive Duo to put on opposing ball handlers with Wy protecting the rim behind them so we’re putting together a defensive team clearly with this pick by the way 13 draft experts came on the pot in recent weeks and we asked them in a series of best ofs to determine who was the best in each category the 2024 draft class best ter perimeter d goes to Stephon castle at Yukon Castle will bring a great motor and winning mentality to the roster Wy has proven to be to the roster period whoops wemy has proven to be a fiery competitor who wants to win above else all else Castle has a similar reputation that’s good we want people who want to win on this team not people who are complacent not saying we have complacent guys but what I’m saying he thrived as an off ball cutter and screener who made the Husky offense sing he’ll fit right in with the Spurs ball movement heavy offense Castle has the patience and strength to get to his spots in the pick roll and is used to playing with the Behemoth after spending a year with Don M kingan he will be an awesome partner with wemy in the inverted pick and roll with wemy handling the ball in Castle screening it will take some time for Castle to develop into a leading primary ball handler he showed a lot of promise at a point guard at the high school level so a lot of you say that he’s never played point guard he wasn’t the point the primary point at Yukon but that’s what he did in high school didn’t have many reps leading the squad at Yukon as I just kind of said the biggest question mark for the fourth overall pick is his shooting ability he hit just 27% of his threes in college ouch his touch on floors and pull-ups in the paint indicate though that he may be able to shoot the ball eventually and listen I mentioned this a lot of times on this channel Tre Jones Couldn’t Shoot the three to save his life and last season we saw him slowly turn things around and post All-Star break he shot north of 40% from Beyond The Arc so it is possible to develop a shot in year two year three obviously you don’t want it to never develop or take five to 10 years to develop but there’s Confidence from a lot of analysis that I’ve seen on the interwebs that his shots not broken and it can’t what the little things that are going wrong right now can be fixed so let’s hope that is the case castle is a seamless fit with the Spurs despite his lack of shooting he can defend knows how to play in a movement heavy offense and is a proven winner the pick indicates they’re looking to build a long defensively robust team around their 7 foot4 alien Castle has the potential BEC a long-term starter on that kind of roster in my personal grade I’m giving an a my Spurs Draft board was SAR rosace half a dozen in the one six in the other I was happy with either one the castle was third for me we got him with the fourth overall pick hey I’m happy I’m good to go drop a com down below your thoughts on the castle draft pick is it an a do you have it a c do you think that’s the F let me know we got another half of the the draft to talk about we’ve got that eighth pick overall that we traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves San Antonio Spurs came into the 2024 NBA draft with the opportunity to make two top 10 selections there were Rumblings that they could trade the eighth pick before the draft I heard a little of that and I think you know if I’m going to pause right here I think what really pushed and prompted this trade is tjon Salon being drafted at six I really feel here in my spursy heart that they were going to draft that kid eighth overall when they saw him come off the boards they’re like okay with what’s left nope we’re we’re going to we’re going to try to move it and and they did move it it appeared that the Spurs had selected Rob Dillingham at 8 giving them an explosive offensive guard moments yes literally moments after the selection was made ESPN’s Adrien wowski reported the pick had been traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves the Timberwolves are trading a 2031 unprotected first and a protected 2030 pick swap for the SP to the Spurs for Dillingham the trade opens up cap room for the Spurs to sign free agents this summer if San Antonio waves all their non-g guaranteed contracts Devonte gaham he’s gone sorry Devonte not paying you 12 million a year to sit on the bench again Julian champeny I think he will be back not as a starter but as things are shaping up at the roster he might be starting again and Charles Bassie Bassie I could see going I like him I know a lot of you like him two season ending injury season ending injuries to the same knee in a row Do not spell out for long healthy productive career so I could see Bassie being go too that could open up to 26 million in cap I believe champen is making 3 million so that would be 23 million in cap room but also give this first two more assets they can package in a trade for a star down the road talking about these draft picks and a draft filled with question marks the Spurs decided to trade out rather than make a second first round selection again I think go to benan Maybe I’m Wrong the trade gives the Spurs 15 future first round picks in the next seven drafts as the Spurs begin to build a playoff team around Wy they’ll be able to use these assets to draft young Talent OR package them together to trade for a Star to play alongside them the basketball world just saw the New York Knicks give up first five sorry give up five first round picks from Mel Bridges I can’t believe they did that the price to trade for a star has never been higher we saw that recently with Rudy Gober now Mel Bridges my goodness there might be somebody else I’m fighting him out but the amount of draft picks people are teams are trading away to get Bridges five picks for Bridges you talking about Willis the price of pay for trade has never been higher the Spurs are loaded up on ammunition to put themselves in the position to play that foil trade grade is a B minus subject to change okay so for a lot of us I think last night on its surface that trade was an F we’re like all right we drafted dling some of you wanted them some didn’t didn’t make sense to draft two guards two potential point two likely point guards but it is what it is we’re like okay we got dilling and we’re going to roll the dice and if one doesn’t work out we got the other so a lot of fans were were upset confused whatever it was for me right now spur fans it’s it’s an incomplete I really can’t grade this right now because one Robert dillingham’s career if he’s a bust this is going to look like a great move there’s going to be a lot of hindsight with this trade of course if he becomes an Allstar with the timber wolves then we’re going to be like holy crap like we could have had this kid and he’s dropping 20 points a game 13 assists I’m just throwing out crazy numbers but it’s going to make us very much sick in the stomach if he becomes that type of player and I’m certainly not going to root against him but that it’s going to hurt if he if he succeeds to no end then of course the the other in tangal do we actually draft somebody in 2030 and 31 do we got to wait that long to find out if it was a home run or a strikeout on this trade or do we trade those assets before then I mean I know I’ve said a lot of times on this channel we don’t want to rush the rebuild with weny but it can’t be a six or sevene rebuild he’d be gone he’s not going to stay here losing so I’m a little mixed on last night’s draft I love the castle pick I was surprised dilling at eight I thought we would go with the wing somebody that could bring in shooting to the team we need shooting and we didn’t get that in this draft as of yet maybe there’s somebody in the second round that we’ll pick I don’t know what we’re going if we’re going to take both picks I’m excited to watch it and see what we do with 35 I think we’re going to use that pick one in 40 48 the other one um who knows I don’t know how long I’ll be live for the draft either uh we’ll see but um last night definitely had me scratching my head I I think there was a minute there I was just confused about the trade and didn’t know what to say because I just didn’t see it coming especially that fast the kid really just literally put on a Spurs cap was all happy and poof gone just like that so best of luck to Robert Stefan Castle hope you live up to the hype hope he becomes kind of a Kawhi loner 2.2 who’s a defensive specialist coming out of college works on his offensive game and the next thing you know he’s a great offensive two-way player as well so I’m very excited Castle will probably play in the summer league so we’ll be covering the summer league too and that’s all I got I want to thank you all for being so gracious and nice to miss TSR making her on camera debut I know she was nervous about that and you guys just made it so easy for her I’m sure she’ll be very happy to join us on camera again in closing 1. C’mon you know the Spurs organization, better than that!?! There is means to end, And the end end, You’ll praise them…

  2. I think the castle pick was an easy A. A defensive anchor in the backcourt to pair with wemby down low for (hopefully) the rest of their respective careers. If he can develop as a playmaker they have an incredibly bright future together.

  3. The Spurs are looking at future salary cap issues. No way in 5 years they can pay 4 max people. Vassell, wemby, castle and Sochan will all make north of 35 mil,

  4. It's waaaay too early to grade the dillingham trade. We'll have to see what we do with them. But I've been saying for a while that dillingham isn't a spurs guy, no matter how good he may or may not be

  5. I also have to say, for dillinghams sake, Minnesota might be the perfect destination for him. He can focus on straight bucket-getting with that black hole of a defense around him

  6. What value does a 1st round 2030 pick from the t wolves where any is in his prime ? Got be close to nothing

  7. What can Dillingham actually do late in the playoffs in a western conference deep playoff run? Can he guard someone on the perimeter or block or will he look like Kyrie and Luka and be singled out each game? Dilly is a great offensive one way player. He doesn't fit with the Spurs plans. spurs need defense. Spurs need a 3-d wing and a backup center.

  8. Kawhi the exception not the reality🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️by time he developes shot wemby gone or spurs fans crying to trade him like murray and white for more future picks…defense is a team effort you can teach how to play good defense…shooting on the other hand is just player skill and talent/confidence if they havent learned to shoot and they 19 been playing since they age 8 all day everyday they aint gonna get it at 19 or 20 years old…you can teach a kid but grown men making millions for just sitting in the bench like simmons good luck takes a special player like kawhi was for a little bit 💯🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️🙄

  9. A few days ago …. Man this draft is weak !!!!

Last night …. Man we traded baby Micheal Jordan spurs front office is the worst ever … Yeah ok man the comments.

    😂 😂

  10. So if Toronto kept their pick and the SAS took castle 4 would it still be considered an F-. Chill with the clickbait my guy!

  11. Maybe with a great defenser like Castle, Keldon Jonhnson could be a starter next season. I love Keldon and I heard he's not a starter because of his defense. I'm a recent fan of NBA, is it possible ? With this, spurs can have a lot of round picks and 2025 is known for a great generation

  12. People acting like the NBA will be dead in 5 years. Wemby will be 25 and they have free agency and next years draft to get whatever they need. What a time!

  13. I think the trade is an A- move. Too many talents to raise at the same time, even if Dillingham comes he won't get the minutes he needs to develop. By 2030/31, Wemby and Spurs may be at their peak and draft capital may be the only way to improve the roster further for the final push.

  14. We traded one first round pick that wasn’t our for two first round picks in the far future that will likely be better than 8th in a weak draft. That’s an A+. Stop focusing so much about next season and focus more about winning titles long term. Once wemby signs his extension we will still have 8 picks in the 4 drafts after wemby resigns. So that means we will have a way to build even when wemby becomes a big contract

  15. Stacking future picks is a wonderful method for a rebuild so maybe the Spurs are still in that mindset. Wemby is young so maybe he is ok with that but I'd imagine he wants help NOW. Dilly could have given him a lethal pick and roll partner. Castle doesn't seem to have that offensive upside though he claims to be a PG. Hopefully Wemby is on board with this plan because the last thing they need is to piss him off. The guy is uber talented and with his slight frame, he may only have a handful of great years before injuries catch up.

  16. We might have 4 picks in next years draft. You really want the spurs to bring in 6 rookies after Vic? We need to push draft picks to the future and remain flexible. 2025 draft is where we can add any pieces we need and get big. Also the spurs scout till 2031 too. There might be a 11 year old dude who is going to be insane that they already marked as wanting next to Vic

  17. 2025 draft is going to be loaded. Spurs might just tank one more time to secure the future 10-15 years.

  18. I heard all the spin but it's a small town market and our ownership doesn't have the deep pockets other teams have. it would be nice if we had Boston's or Lakers or Dallas type money. We have done fantastic with the money San Antonio has and making decisions like last night is what San Antonio fans have to deal with.
