KOC with some interesting post-draft thoughts about Ayton/Clingan on his “Winners/Losers” article

I really don’t understand the people acting like we’re giving up on Ayton because we drafted Clingan. If we had drafted a wing, those same people would be asking why we traded for Avdija, and we definitely didn’t need a guard. What position were we supposed to draft there, exactly?

Dallas drafted Dereck Lively last year, who looked good, and they still went out and traded for a starter in Gafford.

You can’t have too many competent bigs. We were starting Badji and Brown at times last season.

KOC hates everything we do. It’s nothing new. He goes against the grain on every move for us and hated the Dame era blazers. I think it’s personal idk.

If Ayton can shoot 3s I could see it.  He should be a good 3 point shooter but he never tries.

For the last half of the season, Ayton looked like 2011 LaMarcus. Ayton wants to be a 2010s PF, and he flourishes when allowed to be that. It may not work, but we gotta give it a shot.

If they pair them in the front court, it would be the second coming of LaMarcus & Pryzbilla

KOC loves “if he can shoot” projections. Ayton took a few three’s last year and they looked *awful*. His normal jumper completely breaks down once he gets out there

  7. I hope this means we never have to see Moses Brown suit up for the Blazers again.

Clingan averaged 13 and 22 minutes in his two years at UConn and freshman year was a backup to Adama Sanogo who won MOP. I think he really isn’t a 30mpg from the jump center. Only 10 eclipsed that mark last season. Realistically, Rob Will is gone and Duop is deep bench. Play Ayton 28-30 and Clingan 20-22 with some minor overlap.

  9. Wow, so KOC is implying he’s loser.

  10. I don’t think Ayton necessarily needs to develop a three in order to make this work, although it would be phenomenal, obviously. But just having him operate from mid range would be helpful. He’d draw the other bigs out of the paint and could hit Clingan for some easy dunks.

I figure teams are calling, but I would bet Portland will only move Rob Will, and that’s only if they get a legitimate offer.

Can’t have to many bigs these days.

  12. I know it’s wishful thinking but could Ayton work playing PF? Or would defending quicker PF’s be too much for him?

It still doesn’t make sense to have Ayton long term. He’s due for a new contract pretty soon and I don’t think he’s that guy; would rather use the cap space on Scoot and Shae and players around them

We’ve been undersized for so long that I don’t even care if we rip a Clingan, Ayton, Duop lineup at some point

All i know is that Billups is being given the tools needed to improve the squads defense next year. No excuse for being at the bottom of the league next season

KOC might be one of the worst NBA analysts out there
