Episode 28: Pelicans Important Offseason Looms!

[Music] Hello everybody welcome back to another great edition of sports A2 F I’m your host Logan graphy and on today’s show we’re going to be talking all things Pelicans the NBA draft is just in a couple days it’s Wednesday of this week whenever you’re watching this and the Pelicans have to get it correct they have to get it right this offseason is very very vital but do you also have to look at free agency and what they have to go out and get the center and point guard positions for this team is so important of a need that they have to fill it they just have to they can’t just you know be cheap about this and be frugal about this they have to get this correct now with the 21st overall pick there’s been a lot of rumors and players linked and you have Missy the center from Balor that has been linked the most to the Pelicans at 21 now he’s on my board but not very high and I wouldn’t be thrilled with the pick but I would understand it because it feels a need and they are trying to write the wrongs of what they did in the draft a few years ago with Jackson Hayes when they missed on him and and Missy averaging 10 points a game not double digit rebounds as close to it though but you look at the draft the one Center that if I was them and then they wanted to be aggressive and trade up I would trade up and try to go get Zach EDI or if you want to go get another great Center or a center that I think is going to be great like zacki k where but I don’t know if the Pelicans are going to be aggressive there’s been rumors that they want to trade up but don’t necessarily know if they have it in them to do it so you have to look at free agency after that who is a viable Center at in free agency that could fill the void for now that’s a veteran and the one name that I’ve heard the most from the Pelicans fans and I even agree with them is Andre Drummond now Andre Drummond is not you know as he a spring chicken as they say or as young as he once was but he still gets you a double double he creates good space and he he he has played well for the sh for the Chicago Bulls these past few seasons and if you want to really swing for defenses and try to pay the money out Nick Claxton from the Brooklyn Nets he’s only 25 years old and if you really want to Contin continue look let’s look at the centers list right here you want to play small ball you can get Xavier Tillman he’s a backup center for the Boston Celtics the world champion Boston Celtics who just won the NBA finals and they like Clint capella too they like Clint capella and you get Clint capella in a trade with Atlanta Hawks and any hypothetical trade that you get with Trey young or the jonte Murray the Atlanta Hawk seem to be open for business but it almost seems like the New Orleans Pelicans want de jante Murray more but in my opinion Trey young is the one that is the most perfect fit he’s a three-point threat yes Deonte Murray is the better defensive player but Trey young is the better overall player of course I don’t have to necessarily tell you that you probably already know that already but will they land Trey young that is to be determined and I am worried that they won’t but I’m I’m starting to become okay with the idea of De jante Murray as the point guard and any hypothetical Brandon Ingram trade with the Atlanta Hawks so the centers that I’m looking at right here that are available as an unrestricted free agent not restricted at all Andre Drummond Daniel Ty is an intriguing option for small ball Nick CLA then absolutely Xavier Tillman and other than that there’s not too many others that I would go after I mean you’re not going to get and Isaiah hartenstein from the Knicks he’s about to get absolutely paid bank and you could go out and maybe trade for a Mitchell Robinson I don’t know what it will take the primy him away from the Knicks he’s has his injury H issues and injury history but I don’t know if it would be differently here but in my opinion I would take a chance and swing on it and if you miss what do you really give up for Mitchell Robinson maybe a pick or two like you’re not really it’s a high risk High reward in my opinion when it comes to the center position is so important right now I mean it’s more important than the point guard position because even if you miss out on trading for a point guard like a Trey young young like a dejonte Murray or even and a Darius Garland I mean Chris Paul’s still out there that’s the craziest that’s the crazy idea I’ve always had to go out get Chris Paul again but I don’t necessarily have a good feeling or good reading is the correct way of saying this on where are the Pelicans what direction are the Pelicans going they are going to be building around Zion Williamson brandan Ingram is in inevitably on his way out of here I don’t need to tell you that it’s just a matter of when at this point when the Brandon Ingram trade and is it going to be with the Atlanta Hawks I would hope it’s with the Atlanta Hawks because from the beginning I’ve always said you have to either trade with the Atlanta Hawks or the Cleveland Cavaliers Trey young is number one priority in my opinion and if you miss out on Trey Young and the Hawks don’t like your trade offer and they rather trade the jante Murray away so be it the jonay Murray and Herb Jones would be a good defensive front a good defensive front and when Deonte Murray was the leading man in San Antonio he averaged close to a triple double made an All-Star team I mean he’s a great player it’s just I don’t necessarily know about the fit but that is to be determined now with the draft I I can come out and say I’m not the biggest fan of Missy I’ve said it earlier in the show I’m not the biggest fan of Missy from Baylor but it is what it is if they draft him is what it is as for second round prospects that I like I can pull up my board right here and tell you that there are some second round prospects that I like one of them is a Louisiana School guy and I know many people are going to say of course you’re saying the Louisiana School guy but when I say this name you’re gonna be like okay I understand Isaiah Crawford from Louisiana Tech he’s not the fastest he kind of kind of reminds you of a better version of Kyle Anderson from the timber wols he does everything kind of like in a slow basic manner in a basic way but he scores the ball quite well and if you look at his points per game he’s averaging around 17 the 20 points per game I think he’s an underrated Prospect now another player who I’m glad he had all the charges dropped against them that was was a awful situation is Terrence Shannon from Illinois can play the guard on a forward position I there’s so many players in this draft that I like especially in the second round first round I mean my pick if it was up to me I would trade up for Rob Dillingham from Kentucky or I would trade it for Zack yei that’s my one a 1B picks on my draft board right now for the Pelicans so what direction will the Pelicans go where do I want them to go if it were up to me I would make that trade for Trey young I would have Clint capella included in the deal I would some type of way try to find a way to trade up for Zack Edy in the top 10 and I would also go out and maybe sign another veteran like an Andre Drummond or a Daniel Ty or try to find a way to get Nick Claxton and for another small ball lineup Xavier Tillman isn’t horrible so in a perfect world your lineup would be Trey young CJ McCullum or Trey Murphy herb Jones Zion Williamson and and Clint capella at the center spot but realistically what do I think will happen IR realistically think that the jonte Murray is going to be on the Pelicans this season that’s just where I’m at at this point after reading all through the tea leaves I think de Jon Murray is going to be the one that is traded to the New Orleans Pelicans so you look at the lineup of dejonte Murray CJ McCullum herb Jones Zion Williamson and Clint capella I really think they’re going to include him in any deal that they trade in any trade deal involving de jante Murray and then again you can have someone like an Andre Drummond coming off the bench as your backup center or Daniel Ty or Nick Claxton or Xavier Tillman or if you get just so lucky enough to trade up for Zack Edy then there’s your guy there’s your guy
