Kristaps Porzingis has leg surgery & will miss 5-6 months including start of the season | First Take

breaking news into first take with an update on Celtics Center Chris staps porzingis the Celtics announced that porzingis underwent successful surgery on his left leg and that he will return to play in five to six months this will put porzingis out well into the start of next season uh legs I’m going to start with you what are your thoughts on this news man oh man this is serious you’re talking now basically all the way past Christmas at minimum you might be talking as you get closer to approaching the All-Star Break Even cuz if you say five to six who knows that’s obviously a a range it could be 6 to8 I mean we’re going to have to see how long it takes them to come back certainly not the news you wanted to hear for him you feel bad for him after everything he went through with injuries earlier in his career he finally gets to a place where you know his value is really felt and appreciated in Boston helps them have the best record in the NBA unfortunately you know missed some time in the postseason got his ring and now he’s going to miss half next year this is a blow for Boston without question because he’s a major difference maker for them yeah I’m with I’m with legs on this and with his history right you don’t like when he gets back you’re going to have to monitor his minutes and also ramp him up and we saw what happened uh to him at the start of this postseason it was a calf strain and then all of a sudden it was this injury so it’s something about those guys legs like you said the S3 and up right like you have to deal with it and I think you know the Celtics are going to be okay now are they going to be night and day better than the rest of the the league like they were record wise this season I don’t believe so I think teams are going to gain ground especially the New York Knicks and other teams in the west is going to be a lot closer but you have to realize Christa porzingis this year was so valuable for him for the Boston Celtic on both ends of the floor and I’m talking regular season he was the best post up player in the game taking advantage of those mismatches when you talk about Rim protection he provided that I’m not saying Uncle Al old man Al Al Horford can’t get it done damn it he is aging Al Horford gonna be eligible for his pinion in about five years what man what I can’t believe you in legs I really really can’t what’s wrong with y’all man what are you talking about right now hold on for a second man see see I just this is what I’m talking about I just asked my man Russ them to fix my i b he got the damn thing sticking out my head and all they can’t even do that right here I’m got me in a closet yesterday I was sweating today I’m freezing and they can’t even have the damn IB on for me right I this is unbelievable today it’s just unbelievable but let me say Let me let me get to the point here okay well y’all stop it I mean y yo yo yo perk you want some kleenex legs you want some cleanex let me tell y’all something right now y’all are missing a boat here let me y’all make me laugh y’all really do so so so so por Zing is getting paid 29 million next year 30 million a year after right n not only is he doing that okay understand what’s transpiring fellas yo he going to miss had the season Boston just won a championship I don’t give a damn about the regular season we gonna be good enough to get to the playoff without him yes is he gonna be ready come playoff time yes we good and then not only that this brother showed up in game one balling out so the fact that he came up the way that crowd reacted to him he showed up for games one and two show back up again for game five okay he no longer has that scrutiny where all right how’s he going to do in the big moment how’s he going to do in a big game is he going to step up and make his kind of contribution is he going to be that kind of dude well we don’t have those questions about him anymore the only issue about him now is his health and the bottom line is they about winning championships now so as long as this brother is ready come postseason we good and it it it’s a but but that’s a real question about his health didn’t he miss basically all of the postseason because of health issues I’m saying that’s why he going to miss most of the most of most of the next season so he can make they can make sure he’s ready for the playoffs that’s my point the only thing I’m G to say Stephen A is when you start talking about injuries that are going to keep you out five to six months there’s a lot of uncertainty of what that’s going to look like on the back side of that that’s all I’m saying that’s a long time to be to just assume he comes back and you know I assuming I’m assuming in the age of Technology okay you got the best you got the best medical treatment money can buy all right that if you get damn near eight months off you gonna be all right this is June still okay so we got July August September October that’s four months before the season even begins and then you got an additional four months to play with I mean forgive me if I think that the brother going to be ready come next April as long as he ready for next April I’m Boston as long as he’s ready for next April we good we good that’s all I’m saying just got to make sure he stays healthy by the way he’s missed uh double digit games in every season of his career that’s when he get injured during the season not having the SE not not having half the season off when the off season just began I mean off season is going to be the next three four months and then after that he’s a guaranteed to get an additional three four months old I think he’ll be fine [Music]

  1. It's unbelievable how these guys still have jobs an always be hurt…I cant even pass gas at my job an im fired!

  2. Respect tf outta Kristaps for dealing with this through the toughest time of the season

  3. It was expected. We are happy he helped us win a chip this year! All we want is for him to be ready playoff time!

  4. Take your time, KP!
He could literally be out until mid March and I wouldn’t care. He will be ready

  5. If I was the Celtics GM id make a trade for a center with a similar skill set because most likely he'll get hurt again once he comes back

  6. We don’t need to see KP until after all star break lol, as a Celtics fan, we were 26-5 without KP this year, we’ll be perfectly fine lol. We had a 14 game lead in the East last year, with KP missing games. Celtics still clear favorite in the NBA

  7. If I were the Celtics, I would take a shot at Jonas Valanciunas on a 2yr deal. He's durable, can hit the occasional 3pt shot, can get his shot from inside the 3pt line, and can score in the paint. He rebounds well and can challenge at the rim.

  8. It's best to do the surgery now. He'll be ready by next playoffs. What's good about this is Boston can now develop the younger bigs in the meantime. Brad and Mazzula will find a way.

  9. Crazy thing is that the Celtics are still the best team in the NBA without KP, but its still unfortunate obviously. They should get a shooting big though, as Al ain't getting younger after all.
