Djurisic is the player I wanted as I wrote two hours ago. He played at the same club as Jokic and many have noticed that they share the same first name.
Djurisic plays like Manu Ginobli and I like him a lot.
His teammate Nikola Topic is still at the top of Tankathon’s big board. That’s overall big board, not best remaining player available. I think Djurisic is the better player and probably better prospect. Topic is about 1.5 years younger than Djurisic but Topic will miss the entire upcoming season so the age gap is minimal when accounting for the missed season.
Djurisic has good court vision but needs to cut down on the turnovers. He had about 4 assists and 3 turnovers a game. He was great to close out the season after Topic got injured.
I do find it interesting that the Hawks made the AJ trade. Perhaps they targeted and suspected that Djurisic would be available with the pick.
From memory on Sam Vecenie’s draft guide he was saying that Djurisic is going to need to scale down in responsibilities in the NBA. But here’s the deal, Djurisic isn’t a good defender. He is a good self-creator and he is good at passing the ball. The Hawks need to do their best to make him a secondary creator because his value is going to come from his offense.
I’m okay with the AJ trade now because this is a low cost and high upside option. Only I really really hate that this team has around a .500 talent level yet the focus is constantly on minimizing mistakes and winning. Djurisic could be an impact player for this team but I doubt he gets there unless the Hawks try to make it happen and their current MO is contrary to that.
