Tim Legler: The Knicks helped close the gap to Celtics by trading for Mikal Bridges | SC with SVP

NBA news today certainly not limited to the draft bam atab bio intends to sign a threeyear 166 million doll extension with the heat when he’s eligible to do so on July the 6th the 26-year-old big man has a couple years in 72 remaining on his current deal he is a force in this league averaged 19 and 10 a game over the last four seasons four Miami OG an anobi maybe flirted with it but going to stick around in New York 5 years 212 will help New York traded for anobi at the midpoint of last season they immediately started winning 20 and3 in the regular season in his 23 starts injuries certainly impacted the end of the year but his impact was obvious the Knicks with OG in the lineup Elite 26-6 including the playoffs the opponent’s field goal percentage and three-point percentage both would have ranked top three over the course of a full season meanwhile with Adam three under 500 after his debut January the 1st we welcome in my guide Tim legler last time we were on together I caused an incident on NBA Twitter I’m G to try to hey y’all love Tim so do I let’s just talk some hoops tonight and I want to start with the Knicks they’ve made a whole bunch of moves it’s Villanova Northeast if you will uh with with Bridges as you look at them in their totality and it’s easy to forget how banged up they were at the end of the year what do you make of them Tim yeah look I tell you what I love what they just did and I know a lot of people out there are freaking out Scott about what they gave up that’s a that’s a hall that you would normally see reserved for maybe an MVP type candidate but it’s really about context it’s about fit and need at the right time male Bridges was available the Knicks did what they had to to get him and now you look at the barometer and the measuring stick in the East being the Boston Celtics will the New York Knicks just help to close some of that Gap when you can run OG anobi and male Bridges at Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown and match up to that extent on the wings to go with your your All-Star Superstar offensive player and Jaylen Brunson are returning Julius Randall uh some of that other added depth that we saw at the end of the season and the year that Dante D venzo had Josh Hart now both of those guys probably going to be bench players the New York Knicks have really done a great job here in narrowing that Gap with Boston I know it’s a lot to give up but when you have a player like this that fits in perfectly with what you need to fill in the rest of that puzzle you make the move these are all going to be eventually low first round picks so we got to remember that and keep that in mind I think this was the right move for the Knicks all right you know the rules here if I say it’s a sentence it’s a short answer I was with some lifetime New York Nick fans today they were a little freaked out about the give up but they’re like look you think that we can in this window of time contend for a championship what’s your answer to them yeah I I think they can I think this is look this was a team that I thought had a great shot if they stayed healthy to be the last team standing against Boston uh this past postseason now they’ve gone out significantly improved on both ends of the floor okay uh as for the Spurs a ways away from a title but you get Victor wanyama and you’re looking down the road long term and the guy they take tonight is a young man Stefan castle out of Yukon but Danny Hurley called him a championship player he’s a he’s he called himself a worker what’s your sense of what the Spurs added in Castle yeah I was really glad to see the Spurs make this pick because there were some rumors out there they were thinking about pairing up Donovan kingan with wemi and that would have been interesting kind of matching what Minnesota did defensively with two bigs but they really needed a guard in the mix that’s a winner that is versatile this is this guy’s got the potential to be one of the better perimeter defenders in this league Scott I just love his toughness um he has a grit about him that I think is really important to bring into your organization he also totally understands how to play and that’s innate in addition to what Danny Hurley was able to do for him he just has a great feel for the game he could beat you in a number of ways he clearly has to improve his perimeter shooting at the NBA level but there are so many things he does that just say winner and that is what you need at that spot in the NBA to pair with a young Superstar and Victor wanyama in the front Court I told you last week SE uh SE is was calling Bethany Beach is calling me I better not beat you to the beach man get your behind to the shore and enjoy some summertime you he we’ll do same to you man enjoy your time off I’ll be in touch with you though believe it you’re the best Tim [Music] [Applause] leg NBA is

  2. Pay attention to all the commentary from ESPN. Also, try and remember ESPNβ€˜s reaction to Phoenix getting Bradley Beal.

The Knicks are going to regret giving up all those picks. By the time you realize how colossal a mistake this was, it’s going to be six or seven or eight years down the road, and these hack commentators will probably be retired by then.

  3. Early Rankings
    1. Denver Nuggets
    2. Boston Celtics
    3. Minnesota Timberwolves
    4. Dallas Mavericks
    5. New York Knicks
    6. Oklahoma City Thunder

Denver needs to bulk up that bench.

  4. What's with their obsession with collecting Villanova players? At this point it's gotta be on purpose. It's like they collecting pokemon

  5. The knicks should be just as worried about the sixers and bucks as they are about the celtics. Its just as likely there going to have to get by the bucks in the 2nd round as it is they play the celtics.

  6. If Randle was an actual #1 Star (Doesn't have to be a 1A, but simply a 1B) that's a playoff Dawg, then they can beat the Celtics. Unfortunately they have a 2A that plays like a #3 option in the playoffs πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€

  7. First it was Mavs in 6, now the Knicks would've beaten the Celtics if healthy? Is this guy a Lakers fan or he left his brain at home?

  8. things must go right to win a title. injuries can sink you. if the knicks sign ihart and are healthy they they are tough to beat. but that is a big if.

  9. Gotta get rid of Randal. He’s going to be cancer to this trade. His attitude on always wanting to be relevant might be the reason this trade doesn’t flourish like it should.

  10. Maybe they have had a potential chance (later) to trade for Embiid with Randal and all those first round picks.

  11. I can’t believe folks really think a group of role players are championship contenders. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  12. The Knicks healthy were better than Boston this past season.

There was never a gap they were better. Look what their second and third string did for them this year a second seed and 1 game away from the conference finals. All that with their best players missing to injury. Can we say that Bostons second and third string players would have done the same thing for them?

  13. They gave up a haul for an above average role player. I think Legler is wrong that these will be late round picks in the later years of the deal.

  14. As a Celtics fan, the Knicks are the only threat to us but with Thibs play style I hope they can stay healthy in time for the postseason

  15. No one forgot about the injuries and no one cares about the picks! One championship is worth 2.5-3billion for the Knicks!

  16. It's crazy to me how sooooooo many people discredit the Knicks when they had a 50 win season without their starters.
Celtics this Celtics that. They went through a injury torn east and now everyone is like oh they're the best. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ have several seats. The Knicks will be at the top of the east easily.

  17. Celtics only won the chip because of all the East teams injuries… Knicks are now the best in the east🀑🀑🀑🀑🀑
