[Charania] Denver’s Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is declining his $15.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season to become a free agent, sources tell me and @Tjonesonthenba. Caldwell-Pope – a two-time NBA champion – is expected to receive interest from multiple teams with salary cap space.

  3. We 100% knew that he whould declined, now we wait for june 30th and see what happens.

People acting like this is news when it’s been expected since June 1

Someone is going to offer him around $22M/year (which he deserves in this current market but we can’t afford).

Just like Bruce Brown – I’m glad we won a ring with him and it hurts to see him leave, but he deserves to get the best contract possible.

If Scottie Barnes is getting a $270/5 deal – KCP is worth at minimum half that and I’d say more. He has to test the FA market with all the drunk idiots out there.

The more I think about it the more I actually think it makes sense not to pay KCP and go for depth in free agency. We need extra ball-handlers over an elite 3-D player at this point. As long as we get the right players in free agency we’ll be fine.

Not worried. Expect Facu to return for the minimum and take his minutes.

Nuggets can now package Reggie, Zeke and 2031 FRP/whatever remaining second y’all have for something

Booth all but said he isn’t breaking the bank for him. Gordon and Murray need extended after next year. The writing has been in the wall for him to leave since the beginning of last season.

  11. Totally expected. We have players that can step up and get developed for his position and we could use the cap space to get more bench depth.

Thanks for everything KCP. Man it really sucks to lose such important role players. I am pretty concerned with our offense this year overall. High hopes for CB though

wtf caldwell dam you good but aint that good. i hope we resign ya. if not wish ya well

This is why we develop the young guys. They need to be ready to step up.

Can’t wait for the hot takes surrounding the inevitable growing pains of our young players becoming starters and heavy rotational pieces if we don’t end up matching an offer.

  15. petarisawesomeo

My only question is it official now or is it just signaling that he is going to do it on the 29th? If the former, can the Nuggets make moves now that cannot be done in the 2nd apron or do they have to wait until FA begins?

  16. If not the Nuggets, where would be a second-best fit for KCP? Sixers?….

This was expected but still hurts. I’ve been a huge fan of K his entire tenure as a nugget. His defense and ability to score when we needed baskets was huge. We have now lost K, bruce and uncle Jeff since the ring and I hope this post season taught calvin that a bench of young guys isint enough to get another ring. We’re about to bag out jamal so I’m a bit worried what moves we can make….but fireworks NEED to happen.

I hope he plays it smart. He could end up like Bruce Brown. He could end up being traded around constantly and going to an irrelevant team for a 2nd round pick.
