[Afseth] The Dallas Mavericks announced the trade with the New York Knicks, acquiring draft rights to the 51st pick (Melvin Ajinca) in exchange for draft rights to the 58th pick (Ariel Hukporti), draft rights to Petteri Koponen (30th overall pick in 2007), and cash considerations.

Damn, I can’t believe we had to give up Petteri.

  2. 2007!?

The dude is 36 years old now, what is going on?

This has to be the first time one team traded another team’s coach

What in the world is the point of adding the rights to a pick from 2007?

I don’t understand. So according to Wiki, Koponen played in the 2008 Summer League… but still continued to play in Europe.

Then why did he declare in the NBA draft in the first place? And why are his draft rights still active?!? *

I genuinely don’t understand the draft rights for the 2007 dude

Tf is going on with the 30th overall pick in 2007

Honestly curious what is the point of adding rights from 2007? Like that can’t possibly have any kind of impact on the cap or roster building or anything. Do they just think it’s funny or am I missing something?

Nico is the only GM I’ve ever seen successfully trade a pick from 17 years ago. Give that man a statue next to Dirk and Modano

You see the type of bullshit Donnie was doing? Just wasted the 30th pick lol

I legit thought Petteri Kopenen would come over here and be awesome back in the day.

Can someone ELI5 why we did this instead of just waiting until our draft pick?
