Extending Miles Bridges Should Be Charlotte Hornets’ Top Priority | The Drive with Josh Graham

the NBA draft is this week Wednesday night round one Thursday night round two the Charwood Hornets are picking sixth but that is not the top priority for new Hornets coach Charles Lee a weak remov from winning the NBA Finals as an assistant for the Celtics no getting something figured out with Miles Bridges who’s set to become a free agent in the next couple of weeks that is Charlotte’s top concern or at least it should be and should they bring him back absolutely absolutely they need to figure that out because this is an organization Charlotte they’re not the type of organization that could just throw away Allstar level Talent what Charlotte are you kidding who this guy is an Allstar caliber player you have a chance to keep him you absolutely should figure out a way to do that because it’s hard to develop those types of players it’s certainly impossible to find them in free agency if you are the Charlotte Hornets and you especially should try to bring him back considering you couldn’t get anything in exchange for him at the deadline now they probably wanted to move off of miles and get something in return and avoid this predicament Al together but miles had a new trade clause it will never cease to amaze me how many players in the NBA get no trade Clauses that should be reserved for five six maybe seven players in the league Giannis LeBron Luca those types of players the top of the top but it’s amazing to me when I learn that James Harden has a no trade clause or deardo Rosen has a no trade clause or in this case Miles Bridges has a no trade clause why would you give that to a player as a team are you kidding me so Miles put the Hornets technically in this position but Charlotte already withstood the worst from a PR perspective in backing Miles when miles had his legal issues off the Court Charlotte it could have been easy at that point to distance themselves from him and have the moral High Ground in doing so but no they stood by miles at every turn hoping you’d think to reap something in exchange so where is the tension here just m miles Bridges want to come back as a hornet probably why else would you not wave your no trade clause why you you have to think it means something to him how Charlotte stood by him during all the things that he went through so where is the tension in this discussion in this negotiation it seems that Miles Bridges who’s represented by clutch by the way wants miles to get a Max contract and Charlotte understandably doesn’t want to give miles that why because miles hasn’t earned that not even close to earning that how many games has he played in the last two years and all the problems that he’s had this is a salary cap sport you can’t be paying Max contracts to Miles Bridges and call yourself a respectable NBA organization are you kidding now he might think he deserves it why because he’s playing for the Hornets that’s enough to deserve a Max contract ESPN’s Bobby marks disagrees though he says if he were running the Hornets the way Jeff Peterson is previously of the Nets and of the Hawks he’d offer something between 26 and $29 million to Miles Bridges the max is around 34 million a year so well below the max but would miles Bridges go for it it certainly would make him look bad in the city of Charlotte if Charlotte stood by him and he didn’t wave his no trade clause allowing for charl Char to get something back and then he walked away from Charlotte so that they didn’t get anything in exchange for him being gone that would make him look pretty bad and you might think he doesn’t want to look bad again does he but then you’re also leaning on somebody who’s probably a bad person to do something kind for you or to do something upstanding miles Bridges by whatever definition you have of what a good person is isn’t that given the things that he’s allegedly done and done multiple times apparently allegedly allegedly so that’s where the debate is with Miles Bridges back Charlotte could have a playoff roster or at least a playin roster WD is the Hornet fan that can maybe overreact to this more than I could but a healthy lamelo ball you hope Brandon Miller going into year two that looked like a fantastic pick it looks like that he’s only going to get better Grant Williams and Trey man good ads from the deadline Seth Curry coming off the bench too he’s back plus you got Mark Williams in the post and Nick Richards that’s a pretty good basketball team if you throw miles bridges in there too that’s a decent Squad that’s the top priority for the Hornets even more than whoever they pick at number six

Josh explains why the No. 6 pick on draft night should not be the Charlotte Hornets top priority, right now, it should be extending Miles Bridges.
