I called the draft strategy a month ago and am a genius

A month ago, I suggested rolling up current picks into future draft classes.:

The Spurs need to start rolling up picks to higher picks, trading picks for players, or swapping pending picks for picks deeper in the future.

I actually think the third option is most intriguing, especially given how punitive the second apron tax is under the current CBA.

Brian obviously read my genius while relieving his morning glory, and should immediately offer me a job.

Special shout out to /u/Sci-Fy_JK13, who even more specifically called that we would roll a pick to Minnesota for a 2030 draft pick:

Teams like Minnesota, Pheonix, and Denver are strapped for cash and will need those cheap rookies to field a playable roster with any youth.

A pick in say 2030 back may not seem like much, but it could be a valuable trade piece when we are contending.

A huge Generation X cross chop to all the doubters.

A certain user on this sub wouldn’t stop saying “i want to trade out of this draft,” and I thought that was delusional because if everyone knows how bad this draft is, who would give up future assets? But lo and behold, we got an unprotected future 1st and a swap.

I’m really not pressed about all the maneuvering. We got our top guy in a weak draft, we gained even more future assets, we’ll probably use our cap space this summer, and we’ll look ahead to next year when we have more picks in a better draft. What’s there to be upset about?

  2. Good call. Half the people here don’t have foresight and are impatient af.

Ah yes, you gave yourself credit for being the first fan to realize we can’t make and roster every draft pick we own. I eagerly await the next time you grace us with your wisdom

I honestly didn’t expect anyone to want to trade up enough to give us even decent value. I am pleasantly surprised at how it went.
